Brexit and Football

Now without trying to start a remain v leave debate ive just read this bbc article on how brexit may effect football transfers

To me it reads quite balanced and offers some good points for both sides, however if what is said is true it could massively benefit the elite again and the minnows such as ourselves will possibly be forced to pay over the odds for British talent.

Sorry, I'm so bored with Brexit I'll just wait for something to actually happen before commenting on anything to do with us leaving the pesky Europeans.

If the only difference is footballers from the EU who previously could join a club without a permit now need a permit, then there's probably little impact outside the lower Premier League teams, especially when you get to L1/L2 level when the vast, vast majority of squads are made up by UK nationals.

Forest's only problem would be with the Portugese youngsters, as Guedioura, Soudani and Pantillimon would probably have enough national representation to be OK. Not the end of the world and we'd easily replace them.

Leeds may struggle a bit, given Saiz, Allioski, Klich, Hernandez and Jansson are all first teamers from EU nations.

You'd probably find that little differnce in terms of transfer fees. Young players on loan from PL clubs (who hoard young talent) at L2 level might end up at L1 instead, with L1 players making step up to lower Champ. Certainly don't see a scenario whereby clubs who were getting European players for cheap suddenly decide to spend more on inferior UK players.

Financials will remain roughly unchanged but gap between lower Prem/Champ may expand a bit.

It won't, but I'd hope it'd wreck the Premier League. Far too big for it's own good, let alone the rest of the football league and the vast majority of the other European Leagues too.

The teams it would really affect are those competing in Europe, as their ability to compete for signings with clubs from other European countries would be impacted. It should have no real impact on premier league clubs, as they would all be subject to the same constraints.

Potentially it could benefit EFL clubs, as the premier league clubs may be forced to look more locally for players and therefore look to other English clubs to fill the void left by the foreign imports. This increased demand could, in turn, increase the value of players at EFL clubs. At which point, no doubt, the premier league will change the rules to allow their clubs to take players at even lower prices than they do now. Wankers.

Have to agree. Regards Brexit- yes..whatever you voted, you waont get a good outcome. However, the demise of the prem league will be very beneficial for the overall game here.
