I suspect he might stay if we go up and that may be partly why he doesn't want to commit to another long term deal with a big release clause, just in case we don't go up.

He wants to be in the Premier League and deserves that chance.

I believe he will consider his options this summer but he's torn because he's also desperate to give this club success and is really enjoying his football here, hence why he has stayed.

If one of the big 6 come in for him he will have to go - this has been the same for years, even when we were good, Collymore, Webb, Davenport to name just 3, but if he left a promoted us to join Brentford, Palace, Southampton or any other mid premier league team I would not be able to hide my disappointment to say the least

Will he stay if we go up? I sincerely hope so.

Yes.

If we offer him decent terms he'll want to have a crack at the Prem. If we get relegated or hover around the relegation zones he'll bigger off the year after. Unless he doesn't set the Prem on fire...in which case he'll be stuck with us.

You very rarely see teams sell their best players immediately after promotion.

Johnson is only 4 goals behind Grabban now. 2nd top scorer for Forest by a fair distance.

Lyle Taylor is our 4th top scorer alongside Yates so it shows you how much others need to start chipping in.

Lolley on form is always a huge goal threat so I'm hoping he gets himself back into contention soon.

His finish yesterday is the sort his dad used to enjoy scoring.

Excluding his run and finish, yesterday I thought he was quite poor by his own usual standard. Far too many poor passes and wasn't really able to get any of his usual dribbles down the wing.

This. Both he and Zink found men in green more often than they found men in red.

Which is why we lost the midfield battle.

It's not the end of the world, 3 points would have been better but we didn't lose and that's just as important.

To be honest I thought as soon as we got the goal Cooper would react and bring Yates on for Zinc & put Garner as the 10.

I didn't think we had control of the game at any point and the manager was unusually slow to react, he clearly saw something others didn't

And given how leggy we were looking, I thought it would have made sense to have an immediate change of 3 players: Surridge for Davis, Yates for Zinckernagel (who I still think had a poor game overall, although others felt he was a contender for MOTM), and Figs for Cook, who seemed to be really struggling with tiredness as the game went on.
I appreciate it is not necessarily right to change a winning side, but I think Cooper should have paid more regard to the physical drain on the players from both Leicester and Blackburn.

Given how well he’s playing I’m really surprised one of the top 6 isn’t taking a serious interest.
You've only got to look at Saint Maximin at Newcastle who hasn't either and definitely should be. I'd be surprised if neither do though.

It's that just your opinion or some insight, having followed his progress over the years?

It's all about mid-table...
It's a crying shame that players become "Gods" overnight because it changes their entire outlook and in many cases their whole personality. Hope this don't apply to this baby faced lad.

His Dad is paramount in this.

Do the Johnson family own any bakeries?

Why? He only had kind things to say about the club and its people. It's only Hughton he didn't seem to like.

Does he want the biggest sum possible for his son? Of course he does. Will he delay negotiations for a new deal? Most definitely. But that's a bit common in football business nowadays.

I do agree a bit more rotation would have been ideal in that match. Ojeda for a colback, panzo for cook, they may not be as good they are better choice then players that are knackered. Still can't grumble, Cooper has worked miracles

It's just part of the conversation from the Garibaldi podcast with David Johnson. Very interesting.

I can save anyone listening to it for the Brennan "news" the trouble if they want to save themselves 45 minutes.

David doesn't say anything you wouldn't expect-kind words for the current manager as well as clear respect. A nod to the owner and a nod to the fans by saying its Brennans "home" club and theres nothing he'd like more than to be playing in the prem at his home ground.

The contract nitty gritty is:

1) There have been 2 direct conversations with the club since Brennan was at Lincoln. The first contract offer was poor (can I use the term derisory just so I feel like I'm a Sun reporter?).

2) Second-David and Brennan met with the owner/top brass in London last week. Contracts were discussed but its "miles off". We're now into the "take each game at a time" phase of the season with games 2x a week so a perfect excuse not to progress this until the summer....

3) I thought at one stage David was going to say Brennan will be playing in the Prem next year come what may but he pulled back from it. He said (quite sensibly) that Brennan does not want to go to any tin pot club up there and is also rightly wary of being swallowed into a "squad" never to be seen again so reading between the lines there is a practical side to keeping all avenues open.

4) Finally David said, quite correctly, (but depressingly) that (to paraphrase) we are a selling club and that heaps of lads have been jettisoned to make the sums work. The implication being that its not just Brennan or any other young player that's playing the game. You can't deny that but wouldn't it be good for once David if we all tried something different?.

Having heard him I don't think you can deny that him and Brennan are Forest lads and I just hope we get another season out of him whatever happens. I actually think another year with Steve C will help take him up a level and theres no guarantee elsewhere. Lets hope that for once we are cut a break with this one...

Gotta agree with that, sound logic but do have the feeling next season is to early for the step up in the Premier league, especially if they want to go somewhere that isn't tinpot, I'd say somewhere like wolves may be decent for him but would be on the bench if he went now. Playing another season would allow him to get final ball/decision making right
