What's odd is how many fans would turn their back on that because it doesn't fit into the current trend of what's supposedly successful.
I'm more than happy to give Murphy and this model several chances over several seasons, but would I scrap all that for Clough MK2? In. A. f***ing. Heartbeat.
If it’s worth anything, a post from DJ on Twitter:

Contract talks have stalled according to The Athletic. Not over wages but over a potential release clause and the length of the contract.
The fact he has 2 years to run means he isn’t in the strongest position himself. If he is on £2k to £4k and he doesn’t sign a new one I think it is really risky for him. He could get a bad injury, things may not work out and he could be on the scrap heap. If he signs a 5 year on £10k - £15k then at least he has sealed his financial future and if he does well he will get mopped up anyway for bigger money.
From Forest’s point of view I think we are right to not put a low buy out clause in. Let him play on the contract he is on. If he has a storming season then we will get big money. If that money doesn’t come next summer because he only has one year left then Keep him, he is still on low wages and if he has two storming seasons we have had two storming seasons out of a player on hardly any money and surely the tribunal will set a decent fee anyway.
Spot on mate.
As much as I respect BJ & DJ's stance to get themselves the best deal, they need to put it into perspective too. And that is that the club holds all the cards here.
I don't think that there's any sourness in this tbh. Both sides are just doing what's right from their side and it's dragging out because there's no pressure to get a deal done because of the current contract length.
But if I were the club I'd genuinely offer a final contract to Johnson's family this week with no further negotiations until next pre-season at the earliest. The Johnson's may hold a pair of aces, but the club has way more chips in the bank and pretty much every scenario plays out to the club's advantage.
He makes Anel's dad seem like a model of modesty and restraint.I know he's his dad but I do wish DJ would not bother commenting on anything regarding his son, you can see how it is gonna go.
It is not gonna end well, every word he says will be hyper analysed & the abuse will come when things don't suit Forest.

I dunno which is worse, having a dad always preaching about how good Anel is, or having one who is always talking about his little Johnson.
As for Brennan himself he has that trait in looking dangerous everytime he gets the ball
