I always understood the insistence that we wouldn’t break FFP came from EM (not Randall).
Spot on. A few years back, when either Karanka or O'Neill were at the helm, I met one of EM's financial team. I was at a kids birthday party with my eldest son and was introduced to him as I was a Forest supporter.

He'd recently moved over from Greece and was enjoying life in Nottingham's suburbia. He said that the owner was determined to adhere to FFP rules, unlike the club just down the road - he was of course talking about our sheep bothering friends.

The other thing that stood out was him saying how much he liked it over here, especially as armed guards weren't necessary. That's my one and only conversation with anyone of any importance at Forest.

It was a banging party, the jelly and ice cream were top notch.

I agree.

I also think Brennan's lack of defensive contribution means he's not particularly well suited to playing on the right flank in a side that defends a lot, so his only real position is as a striker, but he can't play on his own up top because he gets bullied out of games.

So you end up in a situation whereby if you want to play Johnson you're forced into the 3-4-1-2 or 4-4-2 diamond, the former of which was our weakest (in terms of PPG return) formation used last year.

TLDR: He's the sort of player that brings "moments" but Forest are struggling to carry him throughout games because of our lack of possession. I think he'd do well at Spurs who transition really well but just have a bit more control over in their defensive third.

It might be the case that Johnson goes on to be even better, and that had Forest held onto him and grew as a PL team whereby we had more control of games he becomes less as a player to carry for moments - but we're not there yet on either account and Forest are still, whilst we seek to become an established PL side, focused on the short term.

If Forest can use the £50m+ to bring 2-4 quality additions in who give a better balance to the side and squad then sometimes you've just got to accept where you are in the world. Brighton wouldn't think twice about it.

TLDR: Would really like to see Johnson stay here for years but if it benefits the long term objectives of the club to cash in and adapt then as long as it's done sensibly (hello Shelvey transfer) then I'm onboard with whatever decision Forest take.

Maxi, you've used TLDR a couple of times in your post. What is it that you mean by that?

I can’t really add anything to these excellent posts.

However unless Forest join the big 6 with all the infrastructure, stadium and appeal that provides then it will repeat itself with our home grown. I’m not having a go at the club either, it’s a clear scaled up approach that will provide rewards long term. I’m hopeful that our new chairman will provide and continue what Nicholas Randall has started, but aiming very high is essential, and that starts with an absolute minimum of a decent stadium/capacity. Nicholas Randall deserves huge credit for putting brakes on those existing plans which were totally inadequate

Agree on the stadium. With the amount of fans unable to get tickets filling a 40k stadium is 100% achievable.

If we brought back kids for a kid and expanded the away section then we could reach 45k.

Maxi, you've used TLDR a couple of times in your post. What is it that you mean by that?

As others have said it means 'too long, didn't read'.

It's basically a combination of summarising my points whilst also acknowledging I added zero value to the forum in that post.

Or put another way, you can use TL;DR to make a summary for those too lazy to read the full post.

Kids for a quid is so Derby County.
Feel sorry for the kids of Derbyshire who have Derby County supporting parents/grandparents, must fill them with dread whenever they see a Derby game is kids for a quid as they know they'll be made to sit through 90 minutes of whining about the EFL and the big Premier League club down the road whilst Warne's anti-football bores them to tears.

What goes around comes around-Forest youngsters had to endure ‘kids for a quid’ games during the
Megson era.

Spurs after Ansu Fati. Potentially a sign they've moved on?

Our moves for Dominguez/Michy/Tavares/Santos make me think we're going down the cheaper route (rather than Sangare, Porto left back, etc) so could be planning to keep hold of BJ?

I'm probably seriously clutching at straws...
Or they could be posturing, trying to do to us what we may, or may not be doing to PSV with Ndidi.

Confusing aint it? Was never like this in cloughie’s day. If he wanted someone he’d just rock up at their house and hold them hostage until they signed!!

Nowadays at Forest it's kids for £20, and you plebs be grateful they're getting a ticket at all.

Or something.
