I wonder if he was like most teenagers and ignored advice given to him by his father?

But then looking at what little I've seen, I'm sure he did listen and take it all in.

Johnson the 7th/8th choice midfielder (for middle 3) and 7th choice forward (for front 3) currently.

There are too many variables in your midfield for the youngster to feel disappointed he's 7th choice: Osborn, Guedioura, Yacob may not be here come August, and Yates and Carvalho are injured at the moment. Right now, all you have in the role of creative no. 8 / no. 10 is Silva. This is a perfect opportunity for young Johnson, because Carvalho will be match fit some time in September I guess, so there's no point in getting another creative midfielder in this transfer window. Johnson should make the most of his training and of the playing time he gets in the friendlies, in order to convince his manager that he must say and be given playing time during the season.

Yeah i'm with Bryan on this one.

I'd keep him around, keep him training with the first team every day, dip his toes in when possible. There's an early cup game he should get a look in too.

Best part is I think he fits into this system we're going to be playing so well too. As a no.10 or even a bit of a false 9.

I like him too as I said in the other thread. The kind of composed technical player who fits well with the approach.

Does Welsh count as foreign enough though

It does in Chester
It is often said that there an old law in Chester that a Welsh person found within the city walls after dark can be "shot". The law was actually mentioned in House of Commons as recently as 6th Feb 2007 when Christine Russell (MP for Chester) said:
"I freely admit that cross-border relationships have not always been harmonious in the past. For instance, a local byelaw in Chester states that a Welsh person found within the city walls after sunset can be taken out with a crossbow."
Of course, Ms Russell was not being serious (I hope!). Despite this the Rt. Hon. Mr David Jones (Member of Parliament for Clwyd West / Aelod Seneddol dros Orllewin Clwyd) thought it wise to point out:
"Is it not true that the Chester town hall clock tower does not have a face facing Wales because the people of Chester would not give the time of day to the Welsh?...".

Hmmm
What’s Johnson got to do with Chester?

About as much as his dad did the last time he played there

Never been one to get too giddy about academy players, but have to say, having watched Edser, Johnson, Appiah & co in pre season, Im a lot more enthused about their ability to contribute under Lamouchi. Cash @ RB also looks a masterstroke.

Open mind on Yates too if this manager can get him playing with the ball.

On Johnson, he did look comfortable driving forward with the ball at his feet.

Felt for a while now that the Academy were about to spurt out crop of top drawer players, the class of '19 might well be that. Be magic to develop a team with a home grown core. I don't think there is anything better in football

The mere fact that he had pace, and, surprisingly for his age, confidence seemed like a breath of fresh air when he came in. He should get more playing time.

As I said in preseason, Johnson is the one from the current crop who looks like he has the highest potential ceiling in terms of development. He’s a composed, confident and talented young player. It wouldn’t surprise me if he is in the 18 regularly this season.

Watching him come on reminded me of when Jenas started his career.
Just his build. Looked like a little boy, fresh faced but confident.
Be good to see him for longer next time round.

I agree. Said on another thread that he reminds me of JJ.

Really looking forward to seeing him get some more game time. Showed some nice touches but also great attitude, demanding the ball and taking some responsibility while his senior colleagues seemed satisfied with losing.

A decent season from him could see us cash in on him in the summer to fund another raft of mediocre squad players for next season's manager.

Looks so composed on the ball and has a quick turn of pace and urgency in his play.

Exactly what is required. I’d be playing him as much as possible.
