Brennan Price Johnson

I think there is something in this, more the fact Brennan, or should I say his dad, is pushing the bar in terms of contract earnings.

£30k p/w compared to others? Seems a reasonable push back to me tbf.

Needs a new deal or he is off for 50mil

Nottingham's dirty secret
If anyone is seriously worried about BJ going to Brentford (yes Brentford) they need to chill the f*** out 🤣, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's when we're getting the £60m plus bids from top 6 that we start discussions.

Brentford??😂😂😂😂😂😂

The current rules are a bid has to be made to allow contact. You could make a one penny bid. Forest did it with so many last season- small offers so they could officially approach someone without breaking rules.
The circus around football will always mean someone knows someone (ad infinitum) who knows the person. It could be as small as a text asking if you're looking at options, open to leaving, to agents for the club talking to agents of the player. All of that avoids "tapping up" as it has to be direct, from club to player All clubs do it, hence you hear very little about it nowadays.
I doubt there's been a bid placed in the last however many years where the player or their agent hasn't known about the interest and at least acknowledged it before a bid is submitted.

If Brentford think they can get him for 30, it's because they feel he'll eventually be worth a lot more and they are right on that. Another season with double figures, he'd be getting to that amount.

They liked him in the Championship and tried to take advantage of his contract situation, which we rebuffed. They've come in at 30 which in fairness, if we're asking for 50, is a derisory bid. That's closer to half the asking than the asking.

If we have ambitions to climb the table, Brennan can't go yet and not to a team that we should be considering as rivals to where we want to be unless you get to silly, silly money. Because all that will happen is, we'll start scrambling for a replacement, teams will know we have cash on the hip and they'll either price us out of players or they'll overcharge us.

Brennan and Morgan have a great relationship which I think is a serious point of contention for Brennan going, is Morgan as effective without Brennan? I don't know, maybe, but I wouldn't want to bet our Premierleague status on that.

I don't know what Brennan is on but if I was the club, I think he'd deserve to be one of the top earners but at the same time, with all respect to Brentford, i'd be setting my sights higher if I were him.

I’m not specifically worried about Brentford. In fact I’m not that worried in general if the money on the table ends up high enough.

But there is clearly something in him being available/actively being shopped about. And Brentford are just doing the leg work for another team ultimately.

They will come back with a structured £40m bid, then you’ll get a Spurs, Newcastle, maybe cash rich West Ham team, coming in over the top.

I think we’d sell at £45m plus add ons, if he pushes a move.

Or we stop the noise and double his weekly salary. He’s likely looking at players on £80k plus per week and thinking’s he’s being short changed now.

I think we need to be fair to David Johnson when we're all jumping to conclusions and suggesting he may be responsible for all this because a quick peruse of the internet suggests that he is not his son's agent (anymore) and has no obvious stakeholding in the organisation which is?

He’s the “Head of Football“ at Brennan’s agency, the one of two other listed staff is Brennan’s mate from school. He’s involved.

Isn't DJ head of football at Footwork, Brennan's agent?

Footwork, FWIW, was started by Beckham. Although he left after sometime to pursue other ventures.

We'd better get used to our best players generating interest if we are going to kick on. I'm braced for a summer of speculation...
It’s part of the game and also NECESSARY if we are to grow as a club.
If you take Brighton as an example, they’ve had their managers and best players cherrypicked but they regroup, have players ready to slot in as a backup and if you do it gradually you can maintain and in their case improve.
It’s where we should be aiming to get to.

It's hardly surprising that a talented young lad like Brennan Johnson - following his first successful season in the PL - is being admired by other clubs and the media are speculating about his future. No need for conspiracy theories about his dad/him being unhappy about being benched, etc. I'd be astonished if there was no interest in him.

Obviously Brennan is up for the move as Brentford have been given the encouragement they need to make a formal bid.

I'd rather he didn't go but if he wants out and they offer £50m+ then bye bye..

Brennan either wants to go (to Brentford or anywhere else) or him or his 'people' are using Brentford as a pawn to get more money here. If he's on a fraction of what Shelvey and Wood are on for example then I don't blame him.

Why would he go now rather than a year and a half ago when we were in a division below when the same club bid 15 then 20mill. Brentford were far more attractive when they were in a higher division, i don’t get the logic that all of a sudden he wants to go.

Depends it’s it all factual that he’s on 30k pw, we gave Shelvey 65k pw, MGW could be nearer 80k pw.

He may have signed a contract that quickly became a poor one for him financially in context to other investments being made by the club.

But all that is speculation I suppose isn’t it.

This episode is fuelled by it.

And probably flavoured with cynicism and paranoia.
I mean in all honesty I'd started to process the fact that Beckhams son has just signed permanently for Brentford and the connection that Brennan/DJ and Beckham have before I realised I'm a step away from sitting under the stairs with tin foil on my head talking about aliens interfering with my wifi!

Think ill just wait and see what happens.

I’d give him a new deal at some point but for now he’s under contract

If he is on half what the so called ex Newcastle clowns are on I wouldn't be happy either and certainly if his mate MGW is reportedly on more.

Brennan deserves a rise in wages he helped us to promotion, loves Nottingham and Nottingham Forest, went in the deep end in the Premiership and has showed his worth to us and now attracting further attention.

He negotiated a new deal last July.

Surely he would have wedged himself up.

Similar to Brice last summer. Wasn’t he on a quarter of what hovarth was on and about a twentieth of what his eventual replacement was on!!
