Brennan Price Johnson

Can't see him signing a new contract with us.
A season in the shop window and leave for a pittance and earning a fortune

I don't want it to happen, just thinking like a pro footballer

A pro footballer is just a normal human being mate, they're not robots all programmed with the same code. Every player has different goals and aspirations. Not every player is a mercenary looking for the biggest pay day at any given opportunity

There's many factors that go into a players decisions throughout your career, i'm not saying money isn't one of them but in a field where it's hard to be 'under paid' I can assure you there's plenty of drive behind decisions that aren't financial

Brennan stayed in January when he could easily have left. He said he briefly considering the possibility but put it out of his mind as he knew the Forest team was good enough to go up, so wanted to see what happened.

I think he'll give us a season in the Premier League, at least. He loves the club, enjoys playing under Cooper, and ideally wants to play for Forest in the Premier League. The key thing for him was to be testing himself in the Premier League for his international ambitions and he's got that now. The only time I could see him leaving is if we're really struggling and/or get relegated.

Sign a new contract and give us that bow and arrow celebration in the Premier, Brennan.

But Bryan he had absolutely nothing to loose by not leaving for Brentford in January. As his contract enters its last year he knows damn well that his bargaining power goes up and up exponentially and barring a career threatening injury I can see literally no scenario where he isn't better off by staying, at least in the short term.
Like everyone I hope we stuff his mouth with gold and he signs, but I don't want to see a stupid release clause or the same thing will happen again next season until he leaves and sooner or later hes going to get distracted and it will affect his form. If he won't sign I would sell him (with regret). No player is bigger than the club and we need all hands on deck going into this season....

You are right, it's hard to be underpaid, but in his position it's easy to be massively over paid

He was severely underpaid last season.

In fairness he was a very young player (still is, only just turned 21) who had a handful of games for us and a half-decent season on loan to Lincoln.

At this time last year, we would not really have known he was going to rip the CH to shreds and start going all epic for wales as well.

Lad needs a new deal as he is clearly going to be a top PL player next season. What he has, you can't play against, and not always even if you know it's coming. What he's worth, we need to pay or we lose it.

Even if we didn’t know how good he was going to be, we should have upped his wages from £2k.

I'm fairly sure there would have been an amendment to increase his appearance fees, appearance bonus, goal and assists bonus and promotion bonus to more than compensate.

Yes. But I think hindsight is playing a part here.

Didn't Tyler Walker make a similar impact at that level, before doing absolute bog all for us and then Coventry?

I'm sure plenty would have then said he would go on to make the same impact Brennan did.

But he didn't. And would he have been worth the wage increase? Probably not.

To an extent one is damned if they do and damned if they don't; but I would say that one has to earn the better package before getting it.

He could've signed a new contract but 'it wasn't the right time, 'got to concentrate on the football'.
It'll be the same this year, I can picture Dj on the Garibaldi Red Podcast ... 'Gotta concentrate on getting a good start in the Prem' then 'Gotta concentrate on the world cup'.
By that time it is January and a big decision is gonna have to be taken.

I doubt it, if he refuses to sign a new contract this summer, we will sell, theres too much money at stake there, having said that, I would be fairly surprised if he didn't sign a new deal, even if its only a 1-2 year extension to his current one

His dad is advising him. He'll tell Brennan to sign a 1-2 year extension to protect the club and protect Brennan himself.

I've no doubt about it. He could have gone to Spurs or Brentford in January. He's having the best time of his life right now. Why would he want to suddenly end it without seeing how we will perform in the Premier League?

He is turning down too much money individually to turn down another deal.

He will sign a new deal, hopefully it’s a long term one. Jonno Snr needs to not take the piss this time, what did he want, an £8m release clause?

There should only be a relegation clause in his deal. We will sell him at a fair price when the time comes, or we both grow together and don’t sell at all.

Don't get me wrong i hope Johnson stays here for a long time and flourishes with us, but the ideal situation is that we get to a point in a season or two where we can operate in a way which means we can comfortably sell someone like Johnson for a big turnover and have another gem waiting in the wings (no pun intended) that our data wizards have identified/bought in cheaper as a replacement

Benrahma and Watkins were key components to the Brentford side that got promoted, they sold them for a combined £55m, replaced them for £10m and didn't look any worse for it. They seem to be able to consistently find good players on the cheap with little to no competition

I know brentford go down like a shit sandwich on here but they're the short term blueprint for what we're trying to achieve with our 'new' set up. Of course there's no reason we can't do it even better

They sort of are. They don't have an academy so we'll never go down that route. But you're spot on in that they seem to have a knack of identifying the right players replace those they're selling on at huge profits.

The thing we don't like about them is their supporters' feeling of superiority just because they keep the ball a lot. Oh, and they're not the nicest bunch either, speaking from experiences of being in the home end.

Looks likes he's in Greece on holiday at the moment. I wonder if he'll be meeting Marinakis with Cooper to discuss a new contract?

He'll be touring bakeries until he signs one.
