Brandon Aguilera Zamora

The first part is definitely correct, the later part not confirmed but makes sense.

If he keeps playing for the National Team, he'll easily hit the criteria required to get a work permit within a year.
Nah the club already confirmed he's on loan.

Nottingham Forest has completed the signing of 19-year-old Costa Rica midfielder Brandon Aguilera who joins from LD Alajuelense on a four-year contract.

Aguilera made his debut for Costa Rica in the final CONCACAF qualification group game versus USA, in March, and he has won three caps for his nation ahead of the World Cup finals in Qatar in November.

After signing for The Reds, Aguilera returns immediately to Costa Rica to complete a six-month loan with Guanacasteca before joining up with The Reds’ squad.

“I would like to thank God for this great opportunity with Nottingham Forest,” said Aguilera. “It’s a dream come true for me to come over to England and be part of this club, which has such rich traditions and history that’s known around the world.

“The City Ground is fantastic stadium and I can’t wait to experience it in full voice in the future.”

How are we picking up some pretty much unheard of wonderkid in Central America?

Looks like a proper player in that video against the USA who are no mugs these days. Could turn out to be an absolutely brilliant bit of business by the club.

You know your new midfielder is young when ... his teeth still have braces on them

Like the signing. Will he be part of the Costa Rica WC squad? Will be very good experience if so.

If he has played enough games in the World Cup, is it possible he could get a work permit in time to play from January onwards?

The World Cup in itself isn't a consideration, but overall International appearances including those games should take him over the line (or get him close enough that the club can apply for an exception) at some point.

As far as a work permit goes:

- The league in Costa Rica is in Band 6, so playing there is worth 2 points.
- If he plays 80-89% of domestic minutes then that adds a point, 90%+ adds 2 points.
- Guanacasteca aren't involved in any continental (CONCACF) competitions, so no points available there.

That means 2-4 points are available from Club Football.

The bulk of points is going to come from Internationals (including WC games), which are calculated based on Appearances and the World Ranking -

Basically Costa Rica are currently ranked 34th, in which case he needs to play in 80%+ of games to get an Automatic approval, 70-79% will get him 10 points, 60-69% will get 8 points, 50-59% will get 7 points, and 6 points for 40-49%.

If Costa Rica move into the top 30 by the time we apply, then that helps as the threshold for automatic approval drops to 70%+, and 60-69% gets 10 points, with each bracket then dropping a point down to a minimum of 30-39% being worth 7 points.

The requirement for automatic approval is 15 points, but for U21s the club can apply for an exception if the player has 10-14 points.

Yep, simply put he should only need to become a regular for Costa Rica to get approval which seems like it will happen.

I don’t think it compares to either to be honest, both of those were released by their clubs - this guy is a full international at 18. It’s more comparable to someone like Odeja.
Tbf I just thought of the most obscure youngster we signed from abroad who never played 😂😂
