Billy's 2nd Choice

Seeing as the Djebbour deal has fallen through it will be a wonder who Davies goes for next.
Davies has never been known for signing good strikers so will be interesting to who we go for.

Do we stick with what we have? ...not good enough imo
or
Do we go out and spend on a striker, but who?

We are clearly not after Sharp so anyone says anything along the lines of "sharp is proven, Sharp is the obvious choice" I will have to remove my shorts

Just want to throw in the other option - crack on with what we have for now and get soneone in Jan if needs be.

Missing out now woukd be a blow, but by no means a fatal one at all.

We still lack a striker with pace. Signing Sharp wouldn't change that anyway.

No, that won't do at all; we need to be pushing for promotion and that means having a potent strike force. It's no use starting in January when the other teams have vanished over the horizon.

Our strikeforce is so lacklustre the thought of Tudgay playing and scoring 1 in 5 like he has done all his career makes me want to be sick, its plain and simple we need a new striker maybe even two and ship out the crap.

What's to say he was Billy's 1st choice anyway? Maybe it went Hooper, Austin and then this guy. Fawaz said there was a list of 12 main targets and I think we are burning through them fast! Patterson is a prospect but I don't think he's a first choice target, same goes with Leadbitter

EDIT - I look forward to starting the season again with no real wingers, lots of central midfielders and the never-prolific forwards (looking at you Dex)

What, similar to like how Reading did? Or how we did under Clark when some fans were calling Collymore a flop?

Would be hoping we would be looking at both Paddy Madden and ALF, both of the two know where the goal is and think would work well with either Cox or Hendo. Fantasy world and I think Austin would be a great signing but can't see that happening at all. Not bothered about ages too much 29 is the limit for me as you should still be able to get a good 3 years out of them.

I doubt we were ever in for Austin and Hooper. We are evidently not interested in Sharp so we should forget about him.

I hope we do have a plan B and move onto that one quickly, the start of the season is only just over 3 weeks away and we still have a strikeforce who couldn't score in a brothel, a poor defence and we need another winger. Worrying stuff indeed.

We should stop talking about Sharp TBH, we are clearly not interested in him. Not many good (realistic) options left as far as strikers go though, I hope the club have something up their sleeve. I dread thinking about lining up against Huddersfield with our current strike "force".

at the moment we have lost 19 goals mcgugan and Sharp how can starting as we are be helping our cause? Anyone explain who's going to replace the goals Patterson with 19?

With our current defence and strikeforce, we are a lower midtable side. 3 weeks isn't long and I am starting to worry, it's not looking good at the moment is it? :-(

We need some serious transfer activity in the next 3 weeks, that's for sure.

3 weeks till the season starts.

Would be nice to have a striker here who knows the squad and can fit in easily.

Hence Sharp.

That's not really the point, Alf. Of course there are exceptions, but by and large the teams that are strongest across the whole season are the ones who are promoted. There's no arguing that and just saying 'we can sign someone in January' isn't the necessary mindset and neither is relying on a winning streak like Reading went on, it's incredibly unlikely.

Let's face it we ain't gonna get hooper and very unlikely we'll get Austin, so I'd just sign sharp. He wants to come, he's a quality player, who with a full season and backed as first choice could easily get 20 goals, and he wouldn't break the bank like hooper/Austin would. Whoever it is I want them in place for that first game v Huddersfield, and preferably ASAP. Because striker is not the only position we need, centre back is also a top priority, as well as another winger, and possibly a def midfielder, but that is a less important.

But people are assuming that a squad which saw us top 8 last season doesnt have enough to stay within touching distance until Jan.

We'll be minus Sharp, but plus 3 wide men - which will make a massive difference for the likes of Cox, Hendo, Blackstock etc.

IMO we've more than enough in the squad currently to keep us in touching distance, and shouldn't panic.

Also, its not about how long until the season starts, its about how long until the window closes.

Or we could panic-buy another Derbyshire?

For me billy has had all the things he moaned he didnt have last time in place now. Ive said it before this is billys perfect storm and for me the season to put king billys legendary status to bed once and for all either way. With that forward line we could and should be so far behind that it ll be to late to do anything about it if we wait till january.

The league this season is a whole lot better than last season.

Why can't we look around Europe again and find a 15- 25 goal striker from Belgium, France, Holland or somewhere like that. You can find some gems in the second tier of these countries and if they're on the cheap, then what's to lose?

If it comes down to it I wouldn't even mind taking one of the big boy's strikers on loan. Yaya Sanogo from Arsenal would be very nice indeed.
