Grade A twat.

Are you sure he'd been drinking, though? The body naturally produces alcohol, so he could have been pissed from his own product....

Who knows, was just browsing this while SSN announced it so thought I would share.

Spurs have released a statement saying David Bentley had crashed his car, into a lamp post. He was arrested and charged so I presume he must have been.

Shame he didn't kill himself. And yes I do mean that.

I can't see Spurs getting all their 15 million back now.

The Sun revealed that the midfielder smashed his Porsche into a lamppost at 3am and was found standing near the wreckage of his black 911 on a dark country lane in Northaw, Herts, before being taken into custody.

The former England winger released a statement on Spurs' website. It read: ''I should like to apologise to my Club and the supporters for my actions which led to my car accident last night and my subsequent charge.

''It was wholly unacceptable and I fully appreciate that as a professional footballer I have a duty to behave in a reputable and responsible manner. I am thankful that nobody was injured in the accident. This has been a wake-up call for me both personally and professionally.''

He has been bailed until August 28.

Hmmm. Many shouts of "off with his head". Not saying he's innocent of anything nor accusing him. Sometimes sh it goes off. Mebbe fell out with his gf and drove... which many folk do. At night you'd have to be mad to drink and drive... or just upset. At least he hung around to explain it. He didn't kill someone and run off.

The fact he did the latter is a testiment to his morals. And if we can get him on the cheap because of this I think its worth it ;)

Those words sound so hollow and we're probably written by his publicist.

The dark, country lanes around my village don't even have lamp posts! Sounds rather dodgy.

Oh how noble he was to hang around given that he hadn't run someone over. He didn't kill someone through luck, not judgement.

I honestly think players should have the book thrown at them for things like this. OK so he might have been angry or whatever, we've all been there, but being a footballer is so incredibly fortunate that you should be whiter than white to keep your place, not least because of the role model you're supposed to be.

The new season starts in in a few days, what was he doing up at 3am zooming about in his 'look at me I'm rich as f***' car anyway? People have a go at players like Alan Shearer. Why they do is beyond me, I don't remember him getting up to anything like this and I'd be happy for my kids to try and emulate his approach to being a footballer. How do you think these big time idiots like Ronaldo and Bently would have gone down with Cloughie?

Under the laws of the land, why should he be treated differently to anyone else just because he is a highly paid professional footballer?

The day we start that is the day law and order ceases to be a fair system.

Would someone necessarily lose their job for a drink driving offence? Probably not if their job doesn't depend on it.

Whilst I agree Bently is a total arse and deserves all the abuse going it does not mean he should be treated any differently under the law to anyone else.

True. In reality I wouldn't want him to actually be treated any differently by the law, I just wish there was more clubs could/would do to make their employees behave properly given how many people's eyes are upon them. For example if you're a footballer you shouldn't be drinking, end of. I don't mean a cheeky glass of wine with the missus, I mean going out for the sake of drinking like they do (generally wearing the combination thought up in the depths of hell of the cardigan and diamond earring).

:D true. But they had dutch courage, as a team, behind closed doors and at the discretion of the manager.

They didn't swan around in their Ferarris getting plastered and speeding did they and if they did I doubt they would have last long under Sir Brian (except for when Big Norm had that 'incident' in Barnsley )

They didn't have Ferarris either. :) It isn't the drink. It's the overpaid egotist doing the drinking.
