Backroom Staff

Randy Bumgardener

AKA Randy Bumgardener
As I get older, I'm appreciating how important it is to have a top set of backroom staff. These are the people who inhale the sour attitudes and exhale a positive productive atmosphere within a club and create that zest for football we all crave. I know nothing has been made official as yet about most names, but going by speculation so far;

John McGovern
Stuart Pearce
Tim Flowers,
Brian Eastick,
Steve Wigley

These may have all been placed into the club structure. A colleague (Liverpool fan) has a few friends within the game and has been raving about them. Well respected, plenty of ability, confident and ultimately positive were phrases he used to name a few. We know Stuart would surround himself with honest hard working people, those he could rely on and depend on in good and bad times. The staff can make the difference between a player going out to the pitch happy, or with a chip on his shoulder as we have seen all to regularly.

I think personally these could be the biggest signings the club will make over the next season, the way Forest operates is imperative to the 5 year plan. Lets just ensure we get a good CEO in!

(Plus they are almost a dream backroom staff in FM - Had to say it!)

Yep. Vitally important not just to have coaches with coaching quality, but also those who are honest, hard-working and not selfish. The players take direction from the management and it will rub off on them. We need the whole club to be pulling in the same direction, with doors open to everyone and fans back on side. I don't really know much about any of the coaches personally but those who do seem to be saying good things.

It certainly makes a big change from the previous administration.

I bet there are loads of coaches that would love to work with Pearce, so he's probably got the pick of a really good bunch. It's quite nice having a well-liked person in charge

It's all about the team, philosophy governing it, and each members ability to fulfill ther role in that. Individuals may have great qualities, but Pearce could employ a total nobody and they could be vital to it all if they do the job.

Much like no frills McGovern or Izzy Stradlin, each member of the backroom staff just has to be able to do the job Pearce and Fawaz requires them to. I wouldn't get too hung up on designer staff or fantasy back room teams. But that said it's probably fun too :p

It's also interesting to think about how our coaching staff can convince players to join us.

Pearce and Flowers are relatively recent England internations - players will have grown up knowing everything about them, if not grown up idolising them. Eastick and Wigley have good credentials in youth development which might persuade a young star to come here to continue their development rather than a rival. McGovern has won the biggest prize in club football.

If I was a young footballer looking to develop my game and saw that coaching staff and also heard the vibes that Pearce will utilise youth more, I'd definitely consider Forest as an option more than I would have last year.

Coaches that get into any FA set up are usually very high quality coaches, whatever level it is. Even though it's run by some morons, it only settles for the best coaches.

Um, aren't Aidy Boothroyd and John Beck employed by the FA now?

They're not exactly Mourinho and Guardiola, are they?

I'd be more interested to know who the medical team are, they all need replacing! Wasn't there an 'investigation' into training methods and treatment a couple of weeks ago?

I see that Jason Dodd & Paul Williams have been sacked from Southamptons Academy. They are largely responsible for the likes of Shaw & Ward-Prowse coming through the Saints ranks.

When Aidy Boothroyd first came on the scene he had all the hallmarks of being more of a Brendan Rodgers than a Steve Cotterell. Don't know what happened to him but he must have some talent and perhaps hasn't been as lucky as some. Rodgers made some mistakes and was sacked before Swansea and Liverpool. Then again Boothroyd could have got lucky and was really a Cotternil all along.

You say that but have you any proof that people like Ned Kelly weren't honest or hardworking.

Just because the relationship between Billy & Fawaz went to pot it doesn't make all of the coaching staff bad people/rubbish coaches.

All the appointments and Pearce have got connections to youth football, can't be a bad thing for the academy, Ii wonder if one of the main aims is to get the academy to category 1

Aidy Boothroyd is supposed to be a good coach. Maybe he just isn't up to management. There are loads of those around, and others who just don't like the media side of things - Ray Wilkins, Joe Jordan, Sean O'Driscoll etc etc.

It's all good news, Mr. Pearce bringing in his preferred backroom team.

I must admit, Eastwick didn't fill me with deep joy... but as Chris says these are Stuart Pearce's preferred backroom boys, and as such his success or failure will depend in part on the "togetherness" of his team.

Somehow I see these appointments and think that'll be more people we've got to pay off when the inevitable happens.

Wriggly Wigley is ex-Forest and Eastick was good enough to be head coach to Bobby Robson, so they'll do for me.
