I've been informed that Chris Brass was heavily involved in the recruitment of this lad, having monitored him since he was D-o-F at Wigan, and for whom he was unsuccessful in trying to sign him on loan.

Thank you for sharing, I have reservations about that just because the of the huge coincidence in the profile of signing and agency involved. However I hoping the lad is going to be awesome for us obviously we will just have to wait and see.

One thing that needs to be put across is this guy isnt young, 24 is getting on for your peak so when we assess him he shouldnt be treated as a youngster.

Conversely it would be strange to consider a lad who was at West Ham an undiscovered gem.

Not in the slightest - if you happen to be a follower of West Ham's youth teams, reserves and loan operations then kudos to you my friend if you were familiar with him.

Personally I think you couldn't even say he was on the fringes of the West Ham set-up having signed three years ago he'd made 1 appearance in the first team as a second-half sub in 2018, was then unavailable due to illness before being loaned out to Aris where he played "only" 29 times (scoring 4) before returning back to the limbo whence he came.

Not doubting what you've been told mate, but I've had a good Google and look around Twitter, and I can't find a single link to this at all.

Not a sniff of any rumour linking Silva with Wigan anywhere, or on any of their forums either. Now I'm no expert, so some I.T. whizz could prob find something in seconds if they know where/how to look. But for what would be a relatively high profile transfer for Wigan, I'm really surprised I can't find anything about it.

Any reason why the move was "unsuccessful"? I'd have thought if negations had taken place there'd definitely be some digital trail of something occurring? :dunno:

Alternatively I might just be totally looking in the wrong place if there are links out there which folk could post?

If there is it'd be a good thing for me to post back to those who are suggesting it was a purely agent driven move.

Same agent as Gil Dias and Cafu as well. I don’t know the truth so Otis could well be right but the circumstantial evidence dosen’t make the transfer look good.

Hope nobody is reading this debate either thinking me and Alf want him to be shit. I want him to be class and score bagfuls and create loads. I just have massive post judicial doubts because we have bitten umpteen times before. Anyway hope those doubts are unfounded and I look silly and Forest improve.

Take it as you wish Alf, it's a snippet from from someone I know with a solid connection that I thought might be of mild interest.

As I previously remarked to Emmerson, I'm an anonymous poster on an anonymous messageboard, so you have every right to doubt or disbelieve me, and I accept it's something you wouldn't want to hear anyway. I certainly wouldn't have expected you to trouble yourself by doing research for something that's hardly of any real importance mate.

Why would I ask if I didn't want to hear it? I asked because I'd sooner get a fuller picture. I don't believe or disbelieve either way at the mo, but your suggestion definitely gives us other things to consider.

I also asked the question to one lad who's clued up, and he's just told me that Brass was linked to Semedo at Wigan, so maybe there's an agent connection there. But that is a link I can however find a shed load of digital trails to Semedo too, so who knows.

And it wasn't no major hassle. A few Googles and searches as I drank mi morning bone broth. Nom, nom, nom.

24 is nowhere near your peak. 27-30 is peak

Michail Antonio is a good example of this. Came to us with mixed reviews from Sheffield Wednesday fans at the age of 24, yet since signing for us (and then later West Ham) has gone from strength to strength and is now West Ham's top scorer in the Premier League.

Not saying this Xande Silva bloke is going to replicate Antonio's success or anything, but there's still time for him to improve. If he is one of Chris Brass' recommendations as Otis says then the club must have seen something in his time in Greece and West Ham's U23s to think he's worth a punt. He only supposedly cost £200k (at least that's what I read somewhere) and is on a 2 year deal, so it's not exactly disastrous if it doesn't work out anyway.

Appreciate the info Frank, and for what it is worth it makes sense to me as Brass did a very good job at Wigan at plucking young players (guys in the 20-23 range) from Premiership B teams and then bringing them on at Wigan. Robinson and Joe Williams spring to mind.

To be completely honest, it would need people with far more knowledge than me about the online world to know if every monitored player or every loan enquiry eventually ends up being documented somewhere on the internet?

He was the 19th player last night.

I'm not expecting much from a player close to signing for Aris in Greece but if he is indeed a talent to be polished do we expect to see him take Taylor's spot on the bench anytime soon?

Was hoping he’d provide us a different dimension going forward but don’t think he’s been is Cooper match day squad. Hoping it’s fitness issue rather than ability and whether he got proper preseason. Did we buy him or loan?

I saw him play for the U23’s at QPR a few weeks ago, looked skilful on the ball early on, but just sort of faded out the game. Didn’t seem to push himself too hard.

We bought him I believe.
