Good luck to him. Didn't want him at Forest, but he did come under extreme pressure for the start, had no chance.

Guess what I think about the whole Honours Lists system(the plural is correct this year as Truss granted some as a former Lettuce).

(N.B.: Mrs S has a BEM)

Was it services to getting pissed in Spain for the last 5 years, living off the ridiculous money he managed to squeeze out of football management 🤣

To think Cloughie only got an OBE as well.

Anyway I don’t actually have an issue with him as such, I try not to think too much about that era but didn’t he come in, was given false promises and did the decent thing and walked out of principle?

Yeah, he resigned after Fawaz dicked him around.

Honestly, we've had way worse in the manager's job. Not my favourite, tactically, but I've actually got some respect for McLeish for the way he conducted himself here.

The club was a mess after Fawaz took over from cousin Omar, sacked SOD, then culminated in that chaotic transfer window that ended with the George Boyd eye test on deadline day.

Agreed. He was a terrible fit here and should never have been appointed, but he's not the worst manager we've had by a longshot and has had success elsewhere. Could have hung around for the payoff after it was clear it wasn't going to work, but decided to do the honourable thing and resign instead.

I've no ill will towards McLeish personally.

Yeah that is how I remembered it. Fairly decent lad.

It wasn't his fault. He was brought in with false promises. Chris Burke didn't sign, then George Boyd didn't sign.

Then he's thrown a Kuwaiti goalkeeper who's being presented to him like he's the best thing since sliced bread.

Not sure how anyone could get a team together after that, when the players are already feeling low after O'Driscoll's unfair dismissal.

This was especially when O'Driscoll had coached many of the players at Forest the season before, or had brought them in during the summer. A fair amount of the players O'Driscoll brought in were also ones he knew at Doncaster (Sharp, Coppinger, Gillet) and there's a decent chance they might have come for the manager.

Fawaz threw it all out because after buying a side who had only just stayed up the season before and lost two of their best players in the summer including one who had just scored 4 goals in a game, dropping down to one senior defender at one stage, and having to buy a lot of players just to have a squad/cover/options available, we weren't in the play off places by Christmas and he obviously wanted PL.

It wouldn't have surprised me if McLeish walked in, saw how unbalanced the squad was, and after the promised reinforcements not showing up or being vetoed for non-reasons, then just got out whilst he could. Fawaz went to Billy and the rest is history.
