A week to go, Reid gone, Fawaz going, what's in store for the new season?

Good write up mate. Agreed with most of it, the only part I dont agree with is towards the end, right before the Reid part. This team does need time to gel, as it seems we're playing a more passing approach, so as the season goes on the players will learn more about each other, learn their tendencies and stuff like that.

Other than that, very good article. "ayup youth", I loved that.

It's all about mid-table...
Fair assessment that.

As for "gelling" and "time", it's the same every single season, it's a well worn cliche that's a suit of armour for any manager/owner. They use it when one new player comes in never mind several.

Nobody is expecting much this season so let's get started and see what happens.

It's all about mid-table IMO.

Whilst ever the club continues with the boom-and-bust philosophy there will be neither consistency or success.

We need to give the Manager the time to get it sorted and not panic if we aren't top six at Christmas.

But, this is Forest.

The last boom was decades ago. It's been less of a cycle and more of a one way trajectory.

The word shambles is used quite regularly on here but I think the coming season is season is going to be another shambolic one.
Very little optimism and think a below mid table finish is again likely.

New season starts this week. That very statement gets me going, it has been so long since we saw any decent football (I discount the Euros, though, of course, if you support Forest it seems even longer) that the buzz is back.

Maybe this will be the season. Until Saturday the optimism is sky-high as usual.

Indeed - the gel thing is a worn cliche. It's one I buy into, but it seems like it's now a pre made excuse every season. That's kind of what I was driving at.

Interesting that the new manager has been giving youth an opportunity in pre-season. Lads who have played with each other for several seasons already.

I'm quietly optimistic this year. It will be interesting to see who, if any, of our squad departs before the transfer window slams shut as we seem to have as big a squad now as we have ever had.

Having just come out of embargo I do worry that this increase in squad size could see us falling back into it's grasp sooner rather than later.

One point though. Until something is announced officially, our only benefactor is Fawaz. Talks of takeovers are just that, talk, until someone confirms it 100%.

My optimism was at an all time low this time last season..... it cant really get much lower so what will be, will be.

There was a brilliant Koeman article a year or so ago where he said that the notion of gelling is bollocks. You either have it or you don't

Forest will finish 12th.

Thought I'd save us all the stress of worrying about it

Meh. If Sheffield Wednesday can go from 13th to Wembley in a year then so can anyone. I don't expect anything but I think it'll be a more interesting season than many anticipate

That's because we have a new manager each season.

It isn't an excuse it's a fact and one Fawaz gets lambasted with. However if some fans can't see it failing why would he?

Hold onto that hope. I doubt very much that it will be any different from the norm. Still mustn't dwell on our worries, poor old Man Utd fans haven't won the league for 3 years.

Or Brighton and Hove Albion from 20th to the Playoffs.

BELIEVE.

Maybe we need to get Barack Obama in as a cheerleader. He's going to be looking for a job come the end of this year.

^This has to be said.

Unfortunately I do think the team will need time to gel and I'm also happy to give a manager time if we see positive signs.
But the point still stands, if Sheffield Wednesday can do it, then why can't we. The year Burnley got promoted (first time under Dyche) they were relegation candidates. The list goes on and on...

Good write up Rich. When you condense all the mistakes into one article it's difficult to stick up for the owner and I think the vast majority have now lost their patience.

I'm feeling cautiously optimistic, but the last four years on and off field shenanigans have worn a lot of us out.

Gel my arse. If you are a professional footballer, on the eye-watering wages we pay, what exactly needs to gel? A couple of training sessions should sort it out.
Passing? Well you show for the ball, get it and play the ball to someone else who has got into space and clearly wants it.
Hopefully the someone who receives it will be someone more like Assombalonga, rather than Lars (who to be fair will either not be on the pitch, and certainly won't have moved into space anyway!).

Talking to a Wednesday fan who was saying early last season under their foreign manager a lot of their fans weren't overly impressed with their play but come October they could see the team playing some good stuff, just hoping some patience is awarded to our new manager and his players over the coming season, not expecting top 6 but to see some attractive purposeful football from a promising young team would be great to see in the long run.

Their hair, probably judging by some of the lightweights we've signed in the last few seasons.
