Summer 24 Transfer Window

IdiotTricky

First Team Squad
Do we get the money for finishing higher up the table in this seasons accounts? Surely our December accounts only include us finishing 17th!?!?!

14th is the best we can finish, in Palace’s place. Earning us an extra 6.6m.

Add in Mangala and Worrall (both OTBs) and we should break even (or better) for the 23/24 accounts.

I still don’t think we will need to sell, unless we want to invest heavily. We shifted a huge amount of wages over the season.

If Sangare doesn’t hit the mark, could we line up a swap deal with PSV late in the window?

Give him pre-season and the first few games, then send him back + cash for Bakayoko if it doesn’t work out.
Last I read, Worrall is unlikely to remain in Turkey.

Also, was under the impression that we need to sell at least one player for a decent sum?

My instinct is that this will be a much quieter window re. incomings (so only 10, or so!). If Nuno is still here, that is. Personally, still think that Sangare will come good next season, assuming we stay up.

My instincts, however, are largely why I live in a garage.

It could also depend on the rule changes around Luxury Tax?

In an ideal world we’d retain the below:

Sels

Williams
Omobamidele
Murillo / Boly
Aina

Yates
Danilo / Dominguez

MGW

Elanga
Awoniyi / Wood
CHO

The craziest thing about that core group? Amortisation is just £30m a year.

We might purchase Tavares, Sangare will get his chance to prove his worth and Toffolo is worth keeping around as cover.

I think the big difference between this season and last is that we have a starting XI in place. Even if we bring in 5+ players, we shouldn’t see the usual early season slump / transition period.

If we don’t go down, IMO I think we need:

A back up right back, Montiel doesn’t cut it imo.

One or two new CBs, one if we don’t sell Murillo and make him a young player (the English lad at oly springs to mind). Two if we have to sell Murillo. Boly keeps getting injured, Felipe is retiring and Niakhate just isn’t consistent enough. We could prob scrap by with no movement here of Murillo stays.

Definitely a new winger or two. Back ups for CHO and Elanga that’s not named Origi. Preferably young with something to prove.

Lads at Forest focus talked about a 3rd striker that offers something different to Taiwo and Wood, I’m not really sure about this unless Taiwo is determined to be a crock by management.

Also, Aguilera should be good enough backup for MGW assuming we don’t sell him.

Is it this summer where we have contracts expiring?

I don't think replacing Neco should be anywhere high up our list of needs. He's been immense of late.
He plays with a big heart but I'm still not convinced that he's defensively strong enough to play in a back four. I'm happy to be proven wrong if he keeps pushing though, he is still a young lad after all.

I don't think it's the priority it once was as Neco has improved immeasurably this season, but we'd definitely need another right back once Montiel is sent back. Unless Williams and Aina will be competing for RB which would then leave us needing to sign a left back.

Now whether a new right back gets the shirt or not will be down to recruitment but if the opportunity arises to improve the team it should be taken as long as the finances work.

Whilst grossly unfair on NFFC in 2024, our best hope is that the top-six force through the “super tax” on transfer spend and scrap points deduction, which would be amazing for NFFC in 2025.

Our owner is relatively wealthy for the league and has ambition. We’d be able to keep our better players and also spend another £200m, with a £20m-100m super tax.

It’s arguably the only way we establish ourselves as a Premier League club, certainly the only way we become a 6-14 regular club - EM might be able to outspend 4-6 other clubs regularly.

Leaves us as a club massively exposed if EM ever pulled the plug.

how about Ben Brereton Díaz ? Not doing much at Villarreal but doing well at sheff utd on loan, villarreal might want to cut their losses.

I'd argue that superTax will be bad for Forest.

The parameters of the new economics will be set by the Soverign Wealth Funds. Because they have to keep competing with each other first and foremost, they will create inflation in player fees and wages.

The first knock-on effect will be Inter-league transfers with the top European divisions. To maintain a decent level of squad, they will be forced to pay high wages. This will cascade down those league, and Forest's ability to buy the likes of Sangare will be effected.

The second knock-on effect will be on the pockets of Marinakis. He's wealthy, but wealth is not cash. And his wealth is peanuts compared to the soverign wealth funds. His total asset base is about $3bn compared to PIF's $975bn.

In the last two seasons we have funded the response to promotion with loans from the money markets. This probably suggests he can stump up £30m-40m per season but not £100m+. What we'd really need is probably £250m-300m to compete in the luxury-tax era.

Even a gamble in the first season of a Luxury Tax era would be bad for us.

Don’t disagree, I’m just hoping that we’re shopping in different markets to Man City. Also, that wages won’t be affected by the increased transfer fees.

If we’re competing with the “other 14” then we’re not going to miss out too much, the top six will always take the first picks.

It’s either that, or we stop spending and sell. That doesn’t feel like EM’s “big club attitude”

We keep CHO, Woods, Elanga, Big T,MGW, Danilo and Dom fit we have enough firepower and attack to not worry about the front.
We need to get cover for MGW.

Get Sangare to be a Woody and Tavares where he turns into a great player for the team.

We need a decent centre half and right back because Felipe is gone with Montiel, Boly too injury prone

The rest is good - Neco, Aina, Toff, Sels Niakhate, Yates etc

The other big thing is NUNO needs to stop f***ing about with leaving players out.

We have a good squad that should be easily mid table

With double jeopardy being a thing. I think we should look at Antoine Griezeman at Atleti or maybe see if Messi fancies a go in the prem

You’re just being silly now.

That Kylian M‘Bappe at Paris St. Germain, he’s the choice.

Don't think EM is gonna splash the amount of cash you are expecting. He hasn't really splashed the cash at the moment, yes we have spent 250 million but per player it hasn't been that much. I don't see him changing that strategy.

Nottingham Forest want Raphael Onyedika

Forest have perhaps lacked a little bit of depth at certain periods of the current campaign. Now, Club Brugge star Onyedika appears to be on the City Ground radar.

This comes from the Turkish outlet Cumhuriyet. They claim that a host of Premier League clubs are monitoring the player ahead of the summer. Everton and Crystal Palace are two other clubs linked with the central midfielder.

Onyedika has been a standout performer in the Belgian top flight this season. He’s featured in the same starting eleven as Philip Zinckernagel on a number of occasions.

Cumhuriyet sounds like something my wife would say when she's not in the mood but it's my birthday.

It just means „Republic“ in Turkish!

Maybe she’s a fan of Recep Tayyip Erdogan?

Whats everyone saying for there ideal summer of transfers if we stop up, Mine would be:

Backup keeper if we can Turner and Vlach off the books
Right back for cover for Williams but maybe a player that can cover left back aswell unless Richards can prove his fitness
Right sided center back cover for Omo and Boly if he gets a extension
2 Left sided center back if we loose Murillo
Back up cam for MGW and 2 if we loose him
Winger that can play both sides cover for CHO and Elanga
Back up striker something different to Wood and Taiwo

Bryan Gil available this summer apparently on a cut price - we've tried for him before apparently and known by Nuno... wouldn't be surprised and think there's a player in there.
