The Relegation Dogfight 23/24

Sheff Utd and Burnley are playing as well. They both can't lose, which is against their usual MO.

I notice Aro "Flapper" Muric made another clanger, he really isn't any better from the loan keeper we had from city. Thought they had the next Shilton in Trafford anyway...

Yeah, I'm just thinking worse case scenario for us mainly, plus form can go out of the window at this stage of the season.
But it very rarely goes out of the window to the point that a relegation threatened team finds title winning form. The over rating of Luton due to fear is staggering. There is very little chance they get more than 5 or 6 points from the 5 remaining games based on the 33 that have gone before.

6 points could easily be enough for them, though. We might lose two and draw three of our remaining games

In which case we’d deserve to go down.

But I’d wager more on us taking 6/7 points from our last 5 than I would on Luton taking 5/6.
I really do hope you're right Andy. (y)

It happened to Forest last season when Forest went 11 games without a win. 11 points from the last 6 games suddenly came out of nowhere.

Everton always manage to find a way out of it late on. I wouldn't rule out any scenario at this point when teams get desperate in their fight to survive. Hopefully it's a repeat of last season for Forest.

I have a foolproof method of gauging whether or not Forest deserve to go down: after 38 games, add up the points gained, minus any deductions, and if at least 17 teams end up with more than us, we deserve to go down. Otherwise, we don’t.

Luton have three very winnable home games. They will most likely take between 4-6 points from those games I reckon.

We have on paper 3 potentially winnable away games, and a potentially winnable home game against Chelsea. The problem is that we are absolute bobbins away from home. That is going to have to change if we are going to stay up.

A point at home against Wolves isn’t a good start,Bryan.

Absolutely Cloughie, and I think people are underestimating the opponents in the final 5 games for Forest.

Lose to Everton (which is feasible because of Forest's set piece worries and Everton's efficiency with them), after that you wouldn't expect anything from Citeh at home who are going for the title.

Sheffield United will be ultra motivated for the game against us. It'll be their cup final.

Burnley is the same. It's going to be very tough whereas Luton have some very winnable home games in their stadium that gets in player's faces.

Everyone needs to step up big time.

Both will be relegated by the time we face them and won't give a shit.

Yep, Sheffield Utd have always had an axe to grind with Forest.
They'll want their pound of flesh and would love to put a nail in our coffin.

Or they might play better without any pressure.

Though even if they do play as if they don't give a shit, its Forest away from home. I think even the Dog & Duck would fancy their chances in a home game against us.

I hope you're right but the Sheffield United game is the one where I think they'll be motivated for it even if they're relegated.

Simply out of spite to try to take us down with them.
They’ll be very motivated but I don’t think it’s harsh to say that they’re also absolutely awful. They have 2 home wins all season and on more than one occasion have just given up after conceding. Luton won there despite trailing late in the game. All the motivation in the world shouldn’t matter IF we show up determined to get the points we need. That’s not to say the game will be easy, but again if we don’t win that we deserve to go down.

Depends on whether we end up with fewer points after all 38 games than at least 17 other teams I think, rather than a single result against Sheffield United.

How many of their players are from Sheffield or hold any ill will to Forest?

It's not the 1980s anymore. Some of our players were practically spooning the Liverpool players.

Southampton and Leeds last season completely folded to relegation. Neither won in their last six or seven? Lack of pressure means players give up nowadays. Too much money in the PL so they've got to focus on avoiding injury ahead of any potential summer transfers.

You say that, but at times teams who deserve to go down do stay up. Everton last season for example. There is a difference between deserving to be relegated and actually being relegated.

There’s at least four ex-forest players. Not sure whether that’s a pro or a con to their motivation.

One of them is Jack Robinson I suppose.
