I’m so angry, Played the perfect game, Nuno I feel so sorry, and you wonder why managers can’t take it anymore, 6 games have been ruined under Nuno by refereeing decisions - wouldn’t be surprised to see him walk away from it. That was the most volatile city ground ever.

Who knew that the Bournemouth home game would’ve been a sign of things to come, id probably want to leave the game if I were him as well.

It's the same old story. Almost same time last year this was the call...

The Reds were particularly incensed with the decision to award a free-kick in the visitors’ favour, which led to their second goal, rather than for a foul on Morgan Gibbs-White.

It seems to have been the final straw for Forest, having been on the end of a number of poor calls this season. As a result, the club are putting together a document “listing the blunders from match officials” to submit to the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOL), according to
The Telegraph.

Unless we become a top 6 club, this is always gonna be the case. Nuno will have been more than aware of this when he took the job.

Realistically after the West Ham game, I didn’t expect to pick up any points from Villa or Liverpool. The ref got it massively wrong yesterday, but the drop ball incident doesn’t get talked about if we just boot that ball out.

Now is the time for Nuno to rally the troops and use this anger to get results. He seems to be under a bit of pressure - we’ve improved under him but we’re operating at one point a game, which isn’t good enough.

We simply have to pull together to get behind him. Last thing we want is a 3 manager season and an Allardyce type appointment with a few games to go.

This next run of games is basically our season, next 2 home games are all winnable and the Luton away game is our cup final.

I don't think there is any chance that EM is even considering Nuno's situation. Given that the owner was down there amongst the crowd surging round the ref. After seeing his team play a blinder against the League leaders whilst struggling to get out of danger. You can't really think of a bigger mismatch and I'll bet there were very few who gave us an earthly chance, yet we took the game to them in a fighting and spirited way.

thought this game yesterday showed the evolution of Nuno's team to be something describable

We've seen for a few weeks what his plan is going forward, and how the team likes to get itself into set positions to launch counter-attacks.

But I noted a few weeks ago, for myself at least, that I couldn't see what his approach was out-of-possession and in defence. This changed yesterday. And I hope this is part of the evolution.

First of all we congest the central area, forcing the opponents to either play intricate balls to break the lines or go around.

Here's the transition where Origi has his run and a first effort on goal.

Liverpool try to break the lines, but back 4 are very narrow, with the fullbacks pushed up to reduce the space. Yates and Dominguez are touch tight, Domiguez wins the ball and gets it to Origi.

1709467676181.png

When they go in down the flanks, we congest the play and we're starting to be both defensive and transition mode.

In this next passage of play, Forest have just conceded possession after a throw-in. Dominguez is dueling with Mac Alister for the ball. But notice where MGW is - i've marked him on the image.

1709466358162.png

The player with ball is covered, and all advance oppoent players are marked. MGW switches from defence to transition so advances and turns himself ready to take a ball if Dominguez can win the duel.
1709466546325.png

Dominguez wins the ball and MGW is set to receive it - MGW has Elanga, ready to take a ball around the corner, and Origi ready to to take a switched pass to launch a break.

But its also worth noting what else is happening here - CHO (marked yellow square) is part of the defensive structure with Toffolo, Omo and Yates. Murrilo (green) is left to cover with Williams, who is off picture, .
1709466813107.png

As it happens Nico wins the ball and passes to MGW, but the ref blows for foul in the duel and Liverpool get a free kick.

This next passage od play is from just after the Origi attempt. Liverpool have put an hopeful ball into the channel, it reaches their man but he is closed down and they win a throw-in. From the throw in they try to play along the flank. But same structure as before.

Origi, yates, Williams and MGW close the ball area. The CBs and Toffolo (off screen) cover the width of the goal and Dominguez covers the field in front.

1709469528333.png

And so it was, throghout the game.

Klopp did find out to exploit it, late on. With Danns and Tsimikas on, he played an extra body on the inside left, which caused the midfielder not to go into the flank, which then dragged a CB out. Here, Danilo doesn't go to the block because he is busy with Danns and Omo is unsure where to be so is in no man's land. Elanga concedes a corner.

Felt to me, like everyone knew what to do. And it was clear to a mere mortal like me.

More of this would be good as we mount the final face of this mountain of a season.

I hope everyone at the club is furious about what’s happening to us regarding refereeing decisions. I hope Tierneys outrageous drop ball decision is used to fire up the team to stick it to everyone we play and use it to galvanise our team. The players need to look at theirselves with the fine details that are costing us. We can’t be missing guilt edge chances we can’t switch off for one second because no one in black is going to do us any favours. Do it ourselves.

That awful decision in his first game against Bournemouth really set the tone for his tenure so far.

If we somehow get some competent officials from now onwards we will start getting the points we deserve, stay up and then push on next season.

If we continue getting donkey officials then we’ve had it.

The defensive shape certainly felt much tighter yesterday than it has in previous games and that was without going into the depth you did.

I do think that it reduced our attacking threat but overall it was a good balance, felt like a platform set can build on going forward.

"Nottingham Forest Are Premier League"
The Nuno Espirito Santo Rolling Scorecard 23/24 edition

Forest 0-1 Liverpool

A gutting result following a great battling performance.

The lads were once again on the receiving end of some highly questionable officiating, this time incorrect application of the laws of the game, but they did have an opportunity to clear the danger that led to the last-ditch winner and just couldn’t get the job done to secure the point the performance deserved.

Forest looked good going forward, creating chances that were sadly squandered and by-and-large defended well throughout. Recreated for the remainder of the season, that type of performance gives ground for optimism. The challenge will be to swiftly recover from a mental body blow and to channel the righteous indignation into a siege mentality and eliminate all errors.

Nuno cards a bogey to fall back to +2 par on The Rolling Scorecard.

Really feel that we need a chant for Nuno - don’t think the connection has been there yet with the fans. He was so angry in his press conference, so he’s clearly feeling it. Got to start at Brighton away and needs to be more imaginative than “hates the Derby, hates the Leicester” etc. Best one I’ve seen is “Nuno, Nuno, Nuno, Nuno, Nuno, Nuno, Nuno, Santo” to the same tune as Kolo/Yaya Toure, so if anyone is a member of the chanting committee and has a better one, let’s get it started.

I thought this was interesting because we've talked about the ridiculous and tedious questions Nuno gets asked and I get the feeling he's only another few interviews away from doing the same thing.

And for those calling for his head, who do you get in?

Forest‘s squad is a mess. Any coach will struggle to get any consistency out of this lot.

I don't think it matters who manages us at the moment to be honest.

I don't care in Nuno stays or goes, or who replaces him at this point. This squad isn't up to the task and the club is utterly toxic at the minute.

Should never have been hired, came in and took the breaks off offensively but forgot we have to do silly minor things like defend.

He’ll be gone at the end of the season.

f*** it, Mourinho is out of work Evangelos. Give it him and give him a phat bonus if he keeps us up 😂
