Refs are going to make mistakes, as we all do. In my business, if I am not sure of a big decision I’ll ask someone higher, or we have processes were things are checked by others to ensure decisions are correct. A few years ago linemen were ‘up graded’ to be ‘Assistant Referees’ so basically nowadays we have 3 people who are qualified referees, plus a 4th official but not sure if they have say in decisions (but they did years ago when we played Brum away!) I appreciate that due to mics and ear pieces refs don’t have to physically walk up to assistant refs to have a discussion. But surely one of these 2 Assistent Referees, must have questioned the decision to give the ball back to Liverpool. Surely all 3 refs with all the crowd abuse and from the forest sub bench, couldn’t all have all thought it was the right decision. It’s Common sense for refs to take a sec and talk to assistant refs-surely.
So it’s either ref is making a decision on his own without consulting or ignoring assistant refs advice. Or discussions took place and all 3 got it wrong-either way totally unacceptable for this level.
I think this is why people talk about conspiracies, its virtually impossible to arrive at that conclusion.

Its worrying, it really is, its week in week out too, and then when it goes to VAR they often get it wrong. Why is this?

Watching Utd v City right now and you just know full well there wont be anything like mentioned above.

Im genuinley starting to think these 'mistakes' are not actually mistakes, and im watching a scripted soap opera of some kind.

It's not exactly hard to believe. It was going on in Italy for years, and quite possibly still is.

Mike dean just now on sky “it’s a monumental error thats cost Forest the game“ no shit Mike!
Mike Dean, the man whose presence on Soccer Saturday is purely just to publicly defend referreing decisions that 95% of which are a) wrong, and b) benefit the top clubs?
That Mike Dean? Christ, Poor Tierney really has screwed up this time.

They're arrogant bastards, there are some refs who clearly instruct their assistants to only flag for throw ins, some of the pricks don't even seem to give up that power.

But his initial reaction yesterday was that Tierny got it right, also failing to recognise that the ball was out of the area when play was stopped.

That’s true. I used to be a referee and at a referees meeting once we had an ex premier league ref as a guest speaker and he told us that some referees don’t take any notice if their assistants apart
from throw ins.

Luton have 12 games left. Theye on 20pts feom 5 wins and 5 draws and 16 losses. Or 0.77ppg. If you're generous with them then assign them 4 wins and 2 draws - a 1.16ppg haul - would take them to 34pts.

This might have already been answered (apologises if it has): couldn't the guys on var tell the ref he has given the dropball to the wrong team? Or is that something they aren't allowed to be involved in?

The irony being that was as clear and obvious an error as you'll ever encounter.
But there are lots of incidents outside of t he 4 areas where refs make obvious errors.

Yesterday, Clarke, iirc, got a shot off which came off Omo's head but we got a goal kick.

But do we really want more interventions?
