Standard of Referees (Sponsored by Steven Reid)

About time they wised up on this and took a leaf out of American sports here. The simple solution is have a referee in each half of the pitch. When play crosses the halfway line then control switches to the ref in that half

Nah.

Better idea is to get rid of refs entirely like VAR. Let players sort it out between themselves we'd get more consistency and fewer talking points.

Liverpool goalkeeper was the one who smashed into Konate, who got up as soon as Tierney blew his whistle. Also as he went down, not once did he touch his head. Yet, Tierney signals a head injury.

Can't Play Left-Back
They’ve brought all this complaining on themselves by introducing VAR. if those fouls at corners happened in the champ no one says a thing but because they’ve brought in a system that’s supposed to be able to spot them if the ref doesn’t then this is the reaction. The whole systems a joke.

Don’t get me started on the fact that you have referees in their 40s trying to keep up with play when the likes of Elanga etc are breaking forward.
Virtually all of England's penalties in Russia 2018 were for holding, pulling and shoving in the box (a tournament where VAR was used brilliantly). Then the last couple of seasons (in the Prem at least) they don't give pens for it, certainly not for teams outside the "big" six. Completely agree, the whole thing is an absolute joke.

Create some type of academy system for referees have them refereeing academy games and gradually work their way up the best ones ref in the prem and the rest ref in the lower leagues 😂

I have sat and watched boly be sent off for nothing, Awoniyi get fouls by Dubravka, Williams get trod on by Cornet amongst others. Thinking all the way back to Man United away when 2 went the wrong way. I hate the idea of some sort of conspiracy as all of them are far fetched in my mind. But I am simply speechless to the amount of decisions even with video tech that are going against us.

I genuinely no longer know what to think because it’s become such a joke. I’m actually questioning my own thought process

There was Yates being pulled down against Everton and smashed into against Bournemouth as well.

Even going back to last season you had Harry Maguire and the Congested Penalty Area. Tielmans not getting a second yellow. Dennis being stamped on at Old Trafford. The dodgy Surridge offside at home against United. The soft as shit Brentford penalty.

It's just weird we aren't given anything that can then not be overturned by VAR as not being an obvious error.

I very nearly mentioned this but thought I’d let it go for want of it not wanting to bring up last season but that was the first of the absolute ridiculous decisions. Arm out across our player actively stopping our player getting the ball and nothing. Still pisses me off

Stop looking at it as an unlikely series of bad decisions against and start looking at it from the angle that the PL simply do not want Forest challenging the status quo because that would not be good for the PL product. If you do that it starts to make sense. The only other club getting regular bad decisions against is Wolves, go figure.

What we're seeing is just the start in my view.

- Players feigning head injuries to force referees to stop playing at key moments becoming accepted practice.
- Blue cards resulting in chronic time wasting
- Confused decision making by referees losing a clear grasp of the codified rules due to reliance on VAR officials.
- Selective use of VAR to satisfy the commercial interests and the global fanbases' of the big 6, who now use the threat of a super league to keep the PL and PGMOL in line, either directly or indirectly.
- No accountability and no upward pressure from better referees breaking through because they're all understandably quitting after getting kicked the shit out of by protective parents at the local park.

This is the future I'm afraid. And it's a future created by clubs like Liverpool and unfortunately I think it's here to stay.

If its ahead injury in the penalty are, the ball is given t the goalkeeper for the restart.

If the ball out of the penalty area, the game restarts with a uncontested drop ball to the team that had ball on the whistle.

VAR cannot intervene.
It's slightly more complicated than that -

2. Dropped ball
Procedure
• The ball is dropped for the defending team goalkeeper in their penalty area
if, when play was stopped:
• the ball was in the penalty area or
• the last touch of the ball was in the penalty area
• In all other cases, the referee drops the ball for one player of the team that
last touched the ball at the position where it last touched a player, an outside
agent or, as outlined in Law 9.1, a match official
• All other players (of both teams) must remain at least 4 m (4.5 yds) from the
ball until it is in play
The ball is in play when it touches the ground.

There’s a lot of negativity in the press about Marinakis reaction. Imagine if your investment where you have put in well in excess of 200 mill could lose x amount of value because of an utterly ridiculous referee mistake in the last minute. I think he’s fully justified in making his presence known to the officials. It’s one too many mistakes now.

Tierney must have known that he'd made a huge mistake with the dropped ball. The reaction of the players, the coaches and the crowd must have alerted him.

If he'd used his head, and blown up when Liverpool didn't directly score from that last corner, then most of the anger and criticism would have been deflected away.
He doesn't care that he's made a mistake - Gibbs White very clearly told him before he gave it there keeper - hence much chest puffing and cards everywhere. Cheating little shit ****.

I've not looked across the media in general, but in terms of press reaction that I am aware of, Henry Winter was very much in Forest's corner this morning, whilst not quite endorsing his decision to go pitchside, stating that he understands EM's response to Tierney's actions. He also rightly questions Howard Webb's silence on this matter so far, and the likely 'punishment' that will be handed down to Tierney by having to drop into the Championship next week before returing to the PL the week after.

Interestingly, Winter also believes that Forest's decision to appoint a referee advisor will begin a trend amongst PL clubs.

It’s said that bad decisions on the field even themselves out over a season yet we’re seeing nothing of the sort. If anything, the clear disdain and bias against Nottingham Forest is becoming less and less discrete and more and more blatantly obvious.

Decisions are being made here that are not just wrong but are against the rules of football. There are 4 officials on the pitch and, even if it’s not something VAR can look at, the law should be followed without exception.

We all overlook the occasional incorrect call during match play but when it leads to a crucial and critical game changing decision it’s wrong and it has to be investigated.

I truly believe we are good enough and deserve to compete in the Premier League but our destiny lies in the hands of those at a much higher level for reasons that probably have absolutely nothing to do with football.

Not sure what good it'll do us anyway. Presumably we've brought Clatenburg in to help both in game tactically (how hard can we tackle and get away with it for example because he'll know the refs) and to help our PR/relationships with the PGMOL to try and curry some favour but the evidence is that minor and major decisions go against us constantly and the PGMOL simply lock their f***ing doors when we want a word.

Personally I'm of the opinion that if we continue to get these blatantly corrupt decisions against us then we barricade the refs in their changing rooms and forget about them for a few days.

Good for them. Hope they enjoy League One football next season. Seems to be a running theme for some of Forest's rivals.
