Hans van Breukelen had a difficult act to follow in Peter Shilton but he made a very good job
Steve Baines played a handful of games for us then went on to become one of the very few ex-pros to retrain as a referee. Was a regular in the lower divisions of the Football League but I don’t think he ever reffed in the top flight.View attachment 34646
Can't say I remember any of these three.
You took the words out of my mouth Cloughie, "I was sorry to see him go."Hans van Breukelen had a difficult act to follow in Peter Shilton but he made a very good job
of it.
A bit shaky on crosses at first,he quickly adapted to the English game and was part of the
82/83 side that reached Europe and the 83/84 team that finished 3rd in the league and
reached the UEFA Cup semi-final before being cheated in Brussels. He made a fabulous save
against Celtic in Glasgow as Forest won the 2nd leg 2-1 in the third round.
I was very sorry when he left Forest.
Cheers for this.Steve Baines played a handful of games for us then went on to become one of the very few ex-pros to retrain as a referee. Was a regular in the lower divisions of the Football League but I don’t think he ever reffed in the top flight.
Yes,Steve Baines only played 2 first team games for Forest-both at the end of the 72/73 seasonSteve Baines played a handful of games for us then went on to become one of the very few ex-pros to retrain as a referee. Was a regular in the lower divisions of the Football League but I don’t think he ever reffed in the top flight.
