I was suggesting the 3 game trigger would mean transfer was confirmed and paid for in January whereas the 20 game trigger (with Forest leaving Henderson out a couple of times) would mean the trigger occurred in February, and therefore transfer and associated FFP calculations and cashflow out would move into next season/next summer.
Fair enough, I hadn't picked up that nuance. Anyway, I think the injury was a major factor in our position :)

I didn't help myself for writing 2023/2024 when talking about next season to be fair...

Still feels like 2021 to me.

It's obvious we wanted the player but not with the injury concerns
Why were we chasing him for so long then. It's not like his injury was news to us.

I think the loan was for FFP so we didn't have to pay until next season.

I find it hard to believe that Forest suddenly changed their proposed transfer from straight purchase to loan with compulsory purchase after 20 games if they hadn't had concerns about Henderson's injury.

They would have known almost as much about it as Manchester United after all.

Granted, the FFP side of things would have definitely been a bonus to that, and who knows, maybe they picked a number of games for the compulsory purchase to work well with that but I think that loan with purchase option came into being because of the injury concerns.

I wanted Forest to sign Henderson, I was disappointed we didn't, but it seems that they knew what they were doing after all.

I find it even more disappointing that we have some who still are not prepared to even grudgingly acknowledge that the club actually got this one right.

Let's be real, money wasn't lacking this summer. We bid £25m on a defender on deadline day out of nowhere.
It was until we realised we were getting nigh on £50m for Johnson. Who could forget the constant reports of derisory offers. It wasn't until Syrianos came in that we started cooking with gas and paying the going rate.

Even on deadline day the Sangare deal was being held up until we had confirmation Brennan had gone.

Turner isn't in Henderson's league IMO.

MT has been solid and dependable and I see nothing in his game to be overly concerned about but he's definitely a poorer keeper than DH for me. Still gutted we couldn't land him.

I'm not biting Omar but good try.
It seems clear cut to me.

Ross was in position all summer and very little seemed to be happening both in and out, then Syrianos comes in and we suddenly start doing business all over the place. It can't be a coincidence.

It's hardly a ringing endorsement of Wilson from EM. How would you feel if the place you worked for brought back your predecessor who they sacked last year to 'help you' with your job? You'd feel undermined as it's clear your employer doesn't feel you can do the job properly.

If you are going to fight a corner at least put a tiny bit of effort in to be remotely informed.

You genuinely have no idea what his role actually is. He's a scout, a guy that indentifies players - he has nothing to do with negotiations. He wasn't Wilson's predecessor. He is a scout that was here most of the summer (including the period where you were crying about us doing nothing).

How you can possibly keep saying you still would have gone in for Henderson - when you actively hounded the club for signing Richards. Talk about hypocrisy. If we had signed him for £20m and he broke down in the first game you wouldn't have shut up about it.

I honestly don't know why this is even being debated. Bullet dodged and huge credit for the club for it.

None of us know exactly what goes on behind the scenes and just use the evidence and snippets of information we get given. Based on what we know, we were sleepwalking into the new season before Syrianos came in and then we started being much more active, both in and out once he came back. Quite straightforward really.

Unless Ross started doubling his efforts once he realised someone was on his case I don't see any other explanation.

And this isn't even hypothetical. He literally did break down in the first 15 minutes of his first game for Palace. You couldn't make it up.

I wonder if injuries such as a muscle detachment are more problematic for goalkeepers, given they can go through large periods of play with very little to do? Much more likely to suffer a reoccurrence when 'cold' and more likely to get that way in game? Guessing!

Georgios Syrianos is an analyst and scout; he goes out and identifies players, watches them and rates them in a number of criteria.

That’s what he has done for years, including - with some success - at my local side.

We dodged a bullet simple as that either by design or fluke shame though I wanted Hendo here and he seems a good bloke GWS but I'm happy with Turner so far and see what the other one is like if required

Maybe we knew all long but and we cut a deal with Man Utd to publicly advertise the "fact" we "were after" Henderson to encourage Sheff Utd (who've obviously had him before) and Burnley (who opted for Trafford ultimately) to bid.

Man Utd get their sale, Forest get a potential relegation rival weakened financially without a reliable player to boot.

And Man Utd as a thank you gave us Elanga easily.

(Next week I'll be making "the Great reset" theory believable).

I know it's early days but what do folk think about Turner in comparison to Henderson?

I've been largely impressed so far - seems to make a worldie or two every game (the Burnley save in the cup, whether lucky or not, was outrageous), reasonable distribution (better than Hendo) but probably slightly less commanding.

I've been happy so far, while still holding a candle for Brice who I'm still not convinced isn't better than both!
I don’t think there is much in it. I’d certainly rather have Turner and £10m + and the saving on wages.

I think Turner has been better than Hendo & Aina has been better than Lodi.

You hear that Emmo? 🙌

Wasn't it stated at the time we signed Turner that he wasn't 'instead of' Henderson and that we still wanted both? (Which would also have been prudent as we'd have needed a decent stand in when Hendo broke down after 15 minutes)
So, if anything - Vlach is the one we signed instead of...although we don't have anything to judge him on yet.

Difficult one with Aina, he's a better defender than Lodi (although RL not helped by our lop-sided system) but offers nowhere near the attacking threat. If you could combine the two you'd have a £75m player.

Lodi's attacking threat was necessary as we essentially played without a left-winger.

Lodi barely had any attacking threat. He may appear to have more attacking threat than Aina but that's only because he's a left footer so was out wide more often for an outball than Aina who tends to drift inside on his favoured right foot. In terms of end product in the final third Lodi barely had much, and I thought he was much better defensively, albeit not as good as Aina, who I still can't believe we got for £0.
