Hope the move works out for him. It would be great to see him playing regularly and maybe even have one last crack in the PL.

If we have to chip in a few quid to get the move over the line, then so be it. After the role he played in the promotion season its hard to begrudge him that.

I'm not sure I rate QPR's chances much under Ainsworth, but things can change quickly under a new manager...

I think he'll be great in the Championship in a team that needs leadership.

I have my reservations about Colback as I never thought he was good enough at CM for us in that league.

But it's all opinion & I think Cookie still has a lot to offer QPR.

Some absolute gems at the start of this thread :ROFLMAO:
tbf I think a lot of people have seen us sign players with a similar age profile and status at his old club to Cook and them being shit when we get them, to automatically assume that he will be in the same category as all the other 30+ PL reserves looking for a last pay day (see also: Harry Arter).

At the point we were interested here we already had Worrall and McKenna, along with Toby, and also with Mbe Soh also at the club, and had just brought in Panzo and Laryea as additional defenders (albeit not necessarily primarily centre backs).

We'd also spent most of Jan in around 8th/9th and whilst just outside the playoffs never had made an inroad into a play off place all season, though the Hughton time had set that one back a bit. It may have looked a bit similar to the Karanka/ONeill season where we were around top half but never really challenged the promotion picture and signing another 30+ CB PL reserve didn't really fit in with the idea of players we could get in cheaply and develop before selling on which it looked like DM/SC were bringing in.

I don't think many would have actually foreseen the impact Cook would have with his experience and willingness to get stuck in to the task.

But even then, getting promotion was the beginning of the end of his time at the club as in reality we didn't have any pace at all in that promotion backline which wasn't ever going to work in the PL.

The benefit of hindsight is good but there was every chance this could have been Arter Mk2.

Oh totally I mean you never really know how a signing is going to pan out

Just some of what was posted really made me laugh with hindsight

f*** the championship, when we was defending for our lives before the World Cup Cookie was part of the reason why we had a decently alright period. I will always remember him for that, not only because he defended so well, but because we played like complete shit but it had to be done.

Thanks to Cookie for his fantastic contribution to our success. Will forever be welcomed back here. Hope he goes and smashes it at QPR.

QPR look like they definitely need cook’s leadership and professionalism. They have dropped like a stone from the start of last season.

Instrumental in our win over the scousers at the WFCG. A solid pro. Best wishes to Steve Cook.

Nice interview on the Garibaldi Red podcast

Great call by Cooper and those that supported his signing of this fella. Top performer at Championship level, leader on and off the pitch and more than happy to wind up Derby and Udders fans. We never looked back from the moment he arrived and that pen against the Blunts will be an iconic Forest image for eve r more

He wasn’t here for a long time but he was certainly here for a good time

I was really sceptical about his signing, it just didn't seem to fit the new Dane Murphy MO and he came in at a time Forest were progressing up the league and looking good value for top six. Seemed a bit unnecessary even if he was going to be an obvious upgrade on Figgy who was the weak link in that tab up to that point.

But credit to Cook he proved me wrong. Absolutely what we needed at that time and it made us the complete package. Don't think we ever looked back, best team in the league by a mile thereafter.
