Must've been so tough playing a in a big game for your country after losing a loved one. He could have easily been forgiven had he not wanted to play, full credit to him for choosing to play. Did his grandfather and his family proud.

I can understand that, you're in a different world for 90 minutes.

I used to have very bad anxiety for a year or two where I had this sense of dread I couldn't attribute to anything, it'd get so bad sometimes it was every other thought. The only time I could get away from it was playing 7-a-side twice a week or sleeping.

Over the match, he was one of the stand-out players.
The cynical fouls against him when the USA witnessed his pace and trickery were quite alarmin.
I think that on Friday, Sterling, Saka, Grealish, and the other speedy tricksters are in for some treatment being dished out to them.
This USA team looked for all the world to be as cynical as Ratin and his 1966 Argentinian animals (Alf Ramsey's description of them).

That 1966 World Cup as a whole was pretty ugly. Any decent player was hacked down ruthlessly. Pele was injured like that early on.

It's easy to forget how young he (and a few others) are - I went to watch our under 21s the other week, most of whom would now be under 19s in fairness, but there was noone at the level he is at, or BJ and Mighten for that matter, all of whom I think could play for them.

Sure he'll make the odd mistake and be in and out of confidence being a youngster and all, but he's got the attributes to be a quality player for us over time.

Well done to the lad - must have been tough going out their while grieving.

My Dad died when I was 15. I was told at 3pm and had a game for forest that evening which I went and played in. It was my way of coping with it. For me those 90 mins while I was playing were my way of escaping reality.

I was a little older than you, but I had also lost my mum 18 months before (careless, or what?)

I had a gig the following night (nothing major, just a pub gig) but I went and did it because the reason I picked up music in the first place was because of my dad (who was a multi instrumentalist, and had opened up the world of music to me from when I was a kid) and I thought, weirdly, I didn‘t want to let him down, because he had given me my love for playing live music.

So I went and played the gig, and I can honestly say, I enjoyed it more than any other, possibly I had never played better (at least, I thought so), and you are right, it was part of the healing process for me, anyway. And I was in bits at times, but I think I got away with it.

So, yeah, coping mechanisms are weird, but you do what you can, to get you through.

He will still prove worth the money over the length of his contract in my opinion, even if he's not 100% there yet. He has shown glimpses.

He's not only young - but he is very inexperienced still. Mighten has played 20+ more games than him for example.

That way of having a release was obviously an excellent way of us dealing with grief and trauma.

I was going to add in my original post, that my performance was also enhanced. I seemed to run a bit harder, and I was probably more determined in everything I did. My Dad was also a player himself with Blackpool albeit briefly but I'm not sure it was for that reason I played as I did, I think it was my general anger and frustration that I channeled.

I got over losing my wife by doing the '92'.

These sorts of things keep the mind occupied and allow you to keep going without just mooching around and thinking depressing thoughts.

I wish I could have done it by playing music or football, but unfortunately, I have no talent for anything creative.

Getting a bit bored of watching him ball watching and never tracking the run off his shoulder. You can tell he's learned his game in the shadow of Trent Alexander Arnold. Proper schoolboy stuff sometimes.

Given we love a centre midfielder I'm half wondering if long term that's where Williams should play. His overall attributes would seem more suited there: Decent on the ball, can tackle, energetic... And his weaknesses less exposed, especially if playing in front of a holding midfielder.

Obviously ain't going to play there for us given he's behind 9 billion other centre mids here already but for him the player I mean.

His touch is Premier League and acceleration with the ball. He has that pedigree, but not the footballing smarts currently. He needs games, but our fullbacks are strong just now. He should start our meaningless next game.

He's just not ready for this level. He's not the only one but he's the most expensive and feels like a direct replacement of one of our best players last year so the scrutiny is probably higher.

He may end up as a decent Premier League full back but at the moment he looks painfully out of his depth every time he steps on the pitch.

I am sure that is a move from the Kama Sutra.

Came on for 15 minutes and is arguably at fault for the third goal as he has no idea where the man is when he makes the run inside which is the first phase to us conceding.

He looks like a winger who was converted to full back but still doesn't know how to defend.

I like his busy style but at times needs a little more composure when coming out with the ball. He did well on some very tricky 1-1 situations as well. Not all the signing will hit the heights immediately and under Cooper I expect him to develop. I remember some of those crosses he attempted to put in early season from deep-definitely an asset. Let’s get behind him.

Frustrates me watching him because he holds onto the ball too long. He's like the kid in the school playground who thinks he's amazing trying to take everyone on but ultimately there's very little end product. Needs to do alot of learning and improve his passing and crossing before he's a first team regular.

Rode his luck a little his luck a little too much for my liking last night, though agree he'll come good for us over time.

Hadn't thought of it before, but I agree with the comment that he was probably bought when a back three was planned. When that was shelved, it changed the dynamic.

I think he has promise, which needs honing by the player and staff on the training pitch.
