I'm a little mixed, because I feel like if Neco and Brennan especially have a great tournament, they can bring that confidence back with them. Johnson has struggled this season but if he can get a good World Cup in him against similiar level opposition to what he has in the Prem, that's good for us.

I'm strangely rooting more for Wales than England for some reason and I say this as an Englishman.

So he qualifies for Wales through his mother's parents, played for England at various youth levels and was born and raised in Nottingham. Yet feels this huge pride apparently in representing Wales...

Wonder if he regrets throwing his lot in with Wales so early now, give it another year or two of playing in the Premier League and you could see Johnson getting to the same level as Barnes, Bowen, Calvert-Lewin etc who have all had England call ups over the last few years.
And why would he regret potentially getting 70 - 100 international caps v maybe ten?

Some of his touch play last night was sublime - looked hungry for goals too, albeit in a should have squared it on at least one occasion.

Not sure if it was the level of opposition but thought he looked stronger and like he'd filled out a bit more last night. Every time I see him he looks talker too.

Look forward to watching him kick on second half of the season... He's going to be some player in time.

Took his 2nd goal well. Did lots of good work throughout the game too.

But you do have to factor in the opposition.

He seems to have added that turn with close control to create space for himself to his armoury. If he replicates that in the Premier league as well, it will give him more goal scoring opportunities.

Last night he believed in himself. Obviously the lower level helped.

But so many games for Forest in the PL or for Wales he has the beating of the defender but seems to doubt himself.

I want to see him back himself more.

Someone mentioned him bulking up. I thought he looked a bit chunkier.

Such a poor, poor performance, I’m beginning to think that championship really is his level, he was so easy to mark and defend against today, couldn’t pick a pass, constantly hit the ball at his defender, lost the ball every time, yes a lot of the players had bad performances, but Brennan is just not there this season.

It is a huge step up as shown with hundreds of players that take time to adapt.

He's too good for the Champ and not quite at Prem level but he's 21, not 28 - so we shouldn't be thinking about discarding him. He will play a part I am certain of it but he needs to find that self belief he has against Championship defenders because he we all know he can do it.

I don't think it's belief but that he doesn't always make the right decision. Difficult when we're not playing with strikers for the most part because there's no obvious outlet when he breaks free out wide but he needs to learn when to pop a ball into the box for players like Awoyini and Surridge and when to take the shot in from wide himself.

It doesn't really help him that Neco has f*** all end product from a cross so if he does overlap him, might as well not pass to him because it's going to get wasted. Or Neco will pass it back 40 yards and waste whatever attacking impetus we had.

Forfucksake, the lad was playing in the 3rd Division little more than 18-months-ago!

While it was a poor performance from him but more importantly everyone else, can someone tell me why they’re constantly booting the ball to him and not Taiwo?

he’s not gonna win the header nor is he gonna out muscle his defender so wtf are we playing at, i know he likes to play on the turn the ball rarely went past him for him to run on.

Somethings up with the gameplan, lacks bite.

I don't think the chopping between playing through the middle and out wide has helped. He needs to have a defined role so that he can figure out what works and what doesn't whilst learning how to adapt to various situations.

He's kind of hitting a similar wall as Mighten did where he's just not figuring things out and making the same mistakes. He also needs some familiarity with the player inside him to learn the runs and service that player makes and requires.

It is a bit frustrating to see that, especially when Samba could regularly find him with a throw.

Johnson would benefit from watching a player like Mbappe and see how he utilizes his pace advantage against top level defenders

In the Championship you can get away with raw pace but at the top level you can't just rely on pace alone, not only are defenders at this level quicker they also position themselves better which makes it very hard to simply outrun them

Mbappe is the fastest player in the world but even he knows the best way to utilize his pace is to put his foot on the ball and stand his defender up before forcing him into a 30 yard foot race. Johnson does too many hopeful knocks and takes up too many unfavorable positions which makes the defenders jobs easy

I understand the tactics don’t necessarily suit him, or the style of play, but you can’t blame the tactics for his poor decision making this season, and the fact that he’s been very one dimensional

Apologies no offence meant. She wasn't the target of the joke just the subject.

He really was a quarterback though wasn't he.
He certainly is. I'm firmly convinced he'll end up in the PL before too long given how well he's evidently performing for Lens this season.

He doesnt work hard enough. Never drops deep to pick balls up and often stands cramping the wing backs space instead of running the flank. Just waits until the ball breaks free and then starts to move, which is obviously always too late.

Im not sure whats going off with Jonno but its nothing to do with Spence, he needs a f***ing rocket up his arse. This is elite level football, standing around day dreaming isnt going to cut it.

At this level, he must be a full-back's dream. You know he won't win anything or even challenge in the air. You know he'll try and run you so if you drop off him 2/3 yards you can negate that no problem if you're an established PL player. He's not going to dribble around you so just show him onto his left and he'll give it off nice and easy to someone. Job done.

Need more at this level.

He's a waste of a shirt atm. Creates zero and rarely takes on the fullback. Even when he does, it either ends in a very tame shot or low cross that's blocked by the first defender.

He was playing in the channels a lot more last season compared to now where he's much wider on the flank, and was playing right on shoulder of last man whereas now he receives it in deeper areas.

Different roles.

Do agree needs to add something to his game when isolated a bit out wide: can he make underlap type runs to target the channels, maybe combining that with one-two moves. His pace will still be important in those scenarios but makes his movement harder to mark if he's less predictable.

Still think he's our most natural finisher and obviously our fastest player so if you want goals and an outlet you have to play him through any perceived poor form.
