Neco Shay Williams

Best played in a back 5, Fulham didn’t look to keep him as they switched to a back 4.

Aurier is a much better choice currently.

I don’t buy this - teams like Brighton and Brentford have proved that its not necessarily the case
If Brentford signed Neco Williams for £17m then he'd be their most expensive signing ever.

But they'd never pay that much for a player with his ability.

It’s the premium for English-raised players (yadda yeah he’s a taff but he came though the English system).

Williams cost twice as much as Moussa Niakhate, for comparison.

Haha. I was saying this well before the end of the season too, anticipating that Djed would leave. Obviously sounds a bit silly now, but then again, if we’d had Djed instead we’d still probably be in the same position.
Sorry. I was just being cheeky as I clicked on this thread and yours was the 2nd post I read. :)

He's played about 3 times as many games as Niakhate. Good value.
Er what? Do you mean in career terms or just for Forest? How is that an indicator of a players‘ value?

Niakhate injured himself after two matches. Otherwise, he has over two hundred games for Valenciennes, Metz, and Mainz.

Williams had a dozen games for the scousers and 14 on loan for Fulham.

Not quite the same, is it?

I definitely only meant Forest. Not a clue about Metz & Co.

He comes too narrow some times imo, saw it yesterday where he was trying to put balls in almost inline with the corner of the box.

Even when we were at a 5 I thought he'd come in off the touchline a bit too much. Could be an instruction I suppose

I think we wuz robbed on this one. Spence had faults but Williams makes him look like Dani Alves.

He’s decent enough going forward (can’t seem to cross though) but he’s suspect defensively for me, definitely more wing back than full back.

Spence would look just as ineffective in a back four, and did last season in that system. The problem at the mo is that Williams only really has Cook covering any of his gambles forward so I can understand his reluctance to do so.

This in turn is isolating Jonno and doing neither any favours. We needed to keep a back 3 system to get the most out of Neco. More exposed at the back? Yep but the attacking side of our play needs addressing too.

If SC doesn't feel a back 3 works until Niakhate is back then stick Aurier back in on the right until then. or give Biancone a chance.

After Hickey had played a full season in Scotland and 2 in Serie A by 20. Neco compares how?
Similar ages. One is a regular for a country who will be playing in Qatar, one isn't.

We're told all the time that foreign leagues are shite. From what I've seen, Serie A doesn't prepare you for the Premier League in any way, shape or form. They may as well be different sports.

Plus, haven't seen Hickey at Brentford, have they bought him to be a sub? Would seem to be unusual for them to spend so much on a reserve. Or maybe just proof that any half decent British full back will cost you loads.

Just like Haaland then? There are plenty of awful players that will be appearing at the World Cup, it doesn't really count for much. Neco Williams will be challenging Chris Gunter for a place in the Wales team.

Hickey has been a regular for Brentford this season - 8 starts, and one sub appearance. How much Serie A have you seen if you've not heard of Aaron Hickey? Brentford have signed good players from considerably weaker divisions than the Italian top flight since their promotion to the Premier League. And all of them for less than what we paid for Neco Williams.

MLS features all kinds of players at the World Cup. Unfortunately.

Why do folk keep harping on about spence, he had no intention of ever coming here once spurs showed Interest, get over it chaps and move on.

Because there is a chance that if continues to not play at Spurs and they decide to sell or loan him out, he'll likely choose to come back to Forest.

If that turns out to be the case, fine, it doesn’t change the fact that he wasn’t going to come in the summer so saying we should have signed him is pointless.
