Does anyone remember League 1 Derby County? (STILL the worst team in history!)

Got to admit it’s my bitterness and bias towards Derby that’s possibly driving my frustration regarding the whole debacle,

but even more so as I’m aware that certain public sectors are having tough times to say the least.

I'd say the same if it was any other club doing this. In fact, I'd be absolutely fuming with Forest if they ever tried anything like this personally, probably more so than I'm pissed off at Derby for doing this.

Any club (whether it be Derby, Forest or anyone else) who claims to be a "vital part of the community" and then robs tens of millions of pounds of taxpayers money can absolutely get f**ked as far as I'm concerned.

This is how HRMC runs insolvencies. Insolvencies happen all the time. Many are bigger than Derby. And this is not about football debts. It's about How business works.

We have a whole raft of legislation that's geared to this and a whole industry that supports it.

HRMC got a change in their debt seniority in recent legislation. That gives them more influence over how the final deal is constructed. But nothing was put in place to make the debt. But what you're requiring would need HMRC to become more senior than charge holders. But if that was to happen, it would completely change how lending works and have much more significant impact on the economy. That would affect all businesses and not just those at threat of insolvency. HMRC would get even less.

Local pub here can’t even get enough supporters together to charter a bus to home matches this year (has done in the past) - double decker two seasons ago, coach last season, now not even enough for that.
When they aren't challenging for promotion or giving away tickets, a lot of their fans aren't interested.

There probably won't be many fans turn up besides the season ticket holders next season, especially when it becomes apparent that they aren't going to walk the league like many of their fans expect them to.

To be fair to them, I reckon they will walk the League...because their players are so old they won't be able to even break into a jog.

Yip your average dressing room smells of sweat and deep heat,

Derby’s will smell of Werther‘s Originals.

Telegraph has a John Percy article, stating that "HMRS debt of a staggering £35m will be paid by lump sum next week. Iwill not be the full amount: a deal has been agreed". This is public organisation and a debt to the public. It should be made public exactly what the deal is.

What a load of crap re the HMRC.
I have just finished paying back a sizeable sum to HMRC - they allowed me to pay in instalments but it has meant i have not taken a wage for 6 months ( the screw up meaning i owed was theirs not mine btw)
Really grates that the few quid from me is taken in full after threats of court etc and the sheep get to pay a reduced amount

Anybody that is an owner of a company that doesn't pay tax in full should have a permanent tax rise in every company they own & personal wages to contribute towards the money they have lost. It would help in stopping people hiding behind companies to commit financial crimes, and then do the exact same thing over and over again.

They just put companies in wifes or family member names.

Spot on. It's absolutely disgraceful what Mel Morris has gotten away with, just because he hid behind a company (in this case, Derby County) in doing so.

Legally they can't touch him unfortunately, but morally speaking Mel should either be forced to pay it back or face time in prison. Same goes for anyone else doing shit like this with any other business.

Yep, I know a bloke who went bankrupt he put everything in his Mrs name, she's got a 80,000 a year job for the local authority plus he kept quiet about the property he owns in Greece.
He is from Derby though.

I must have the straightest (or worst) accountants in the world - I have my own business and I get no advice on how to pay less tax... others I know in the same boat do get away with some shady-ish things (wife taking tax free amount as a director and not doing any work etc) but then again I believe in paying your way and doing the right things. I passed on money I got for COVID relief to my staff even though I could quite easily have trousered it and not said a word.
