Had to take my shoes and socks off but by my calculations, if we get this one and the Cornet deal done our spending is exactly £100m. Next level budgeting.

Would that take us up to 12 additions since we went up which equates to just over £8.3 million per addition?

It would be 13 if you include Aguilera. But to be fair we lost 9 (10 if you include Lolley) from our first team squad from last season so whilst 13 sounds loads, our squad still isn't that big.

It's not a farmers league that's saved for Scottish football, but even there you find the odd turd to polish aka Scott mckenna.

I'm just not sure about the defending in the league, I've said it before I'm convinced Germany create 4 world class defenders at different points per generation and in stereotypical Gemany efficiency decides that's enough to win the world Cup and go with it the rest just make up the numbers.

As for this guy there's no doubting you've seen him play more than all of us put together so if you say he'll fit, that'll do for me.

He wasn't even particularly highly rated in Scotland either. Even a pal from Aberdeen said he fights hard but he's championship level at best and will be caught out by pace and skill.

In fairness we lost 5 loanees and samba so we needed 6 replacements anyway so really it’s only 5 extra. Which if we kept all the others is about right maybe a few more. People not looking at our context of why we have to get so many 🙄 That’s my biggest gripe with the media because it’s easy research.

His rep was "injury prone" as well weren't it?

I'm a bit disappointed with this one, as it proved me wrong that you'd be waiting for Garner until the last minute.

Unless of course you wish to buy Garner at the last minute and send him to us, I wouldn't complain about that. :p

With 5 substations allowed, you would expect 2 of those to be midfielders - so plenty of game time for all

Two or three of the five substitutions invariably involve forward players, who are expected to work their socks off until they ran out of breath. If a midfield works well, it's a bit dangerous to change the players, especially since midfielders are expected to work their socks off anyway.

I don't see how this rules out Garner? If we get Garner as well that's O'Brien/Garner & Yates/Mangala for our two starting spots in midfield

But it's not 5 extra, we also lost Grabban 2nd choice striker, Horvath 2nd keeper, Figs 4th choice CB, Panzo 5th choice CB. All those needed replacing aswell as you can't go into a season with no backups.

Four first class options for two spots? I like it, but Yates will probably not.

Totally forgot and yes totally agree!! What do people expect us to do? Some people in the media said getting so many could upset the boys who them promoted but we have got any of those feckers left!! 😂

If we only replaced the loans we'd have a worse squad than last year!

The media don't have a clue and are just jumping on the number of players and ignoring the outgoings.

Looks like a dribble machine (99%), but scared of passing forward (progressive passes 5%???!) Defensive contribution weak as both sites rate him
P/S: all those % percentile are: Player compared to positional peers in Men's Big 5 Leagues and European Competition over the last 365 days.

If we manage to grab Cornet aswell this week somehow, we’ve done an incredible job. Not only to get the numbers in required to be competitive against Newcastle in a short off-season, but to get the standard we have and stay within the reported budget.

Plus have a whole week as a group to prepare and a further month to add players as we see fit (Garner, another loan, additional striker etc etc)

Time will tell mate.

Also depends where we intend to play him. I don't think our midfield will be rigid.

Since this recruitment team has come in they have identified players that excell in one or two areas and it has worked really well - instead of a jack of all trades type player. Looks like another one that excells in certain areas.

Equally would like to know what defines a "progressive pass" - as he's pretty high on "Shot-Creating Action", surely that's the same thing.

In the video he looked a very progressive player so how do they count progressive passes? Not doubting but he looks like he wants to go forward a lot looking at him dribble.

Just typing the same thing! He loves a dribble and watching the video of him he dribbled forward a lot so if you dribble forward and lay it off that wouldn’t count as progressive of you know what I mean?

A 'progressive pass' is considered to be one that gets you closer to the opponent's goal but depends on where the pass was started and finished:
  • if the pass is within your own half, then it should take you at least 30m closer to the opponent's goal
  • if the pass starts in your half but crosses into the opponent's half, then it should take you at least 15m closer to the opponent's goal
  • if the pass is within the opponent's half, then it should take you at least 10m closer to the opponent's goal

Would be a dribble or a carry.

We don't really pass through midfield so having someone that doesn't thread balls forward isn't really an issue. Especially as he (and O'Brien) are good ball carriers.

The defensive numbers concern me a little though, as we put huge emphasis on the two CM's to get through a lot of work. Could be a tactical thing though.

I do love looking at all the statistical analysis stuff, but so much of that is dictated by a players role and the players around him.

It’s always a cool tool to get yourself acquainted with a new player, but I’d say no more accurate a representation than fan opinion. Excited for this one
