Think we may see him and O'brien in the middle with Yates backup?

The original German tweet comes from a SkyDE reporter, and he is quite correct, as yet, nothing is done.Although translating the German tweet Florian has referenced, it says it could still fail ?
"Mangala shortly before moving to Nottingham. It's about 15 million euros. All sides want the deal. BUT: Final details to be clarified, nothing fixed in writing so far. There is a residual risk that the transfer will still fail."
Possible, but I could also see all three of them together in a three-man midfield, perhaps if Forest switched to a back-four.Think we may see him and O'brien in the middle with Yates backup?

I think I must be 90% German, although i'd like to call it realism!(Don’t forget, traditional German pessimism - things aren’t done until they are finished, and, well, if they aren’t done, then they aren’t finished).
Encouraging review, that - it sounds like he'll be in competition with Yates as they appear to be similar players? He is predominantly a box-to-box midfielder, adept at bringing the ball out from the back and also getting up to support attacks. He can do the defensive stuff too, although the way VfB typically line up, he doesn’t have to. He can also play as a more attacking CM too, I’ve seen him used as part of an attacking „2“ behind a striker, for example.
A very versatile player, great engine and good technical skills.
In truth. Mangala probably has better technique than Yates does, but they do occupy similar positions.Encouraging review, that - it sounds like he'll be in competition with Yates as they appear to be similar players?

This is fantastic news if it comes off. I think Yates has been a big "miss" since injuring his knee in Spain, and I think when he is fit again he will play an important role in our season, and not as a back-up player. Mangala is an unknown quantity for me, and unless a deal is announced, we don't know if he is being courted or whether it is just his agent trying to spark interest, or merely media speculation. I don't see O'Brien as back-up either - after a mere 2 or 3 days with the squad he looked very good against FCUB. I think it is likely that colback will be the back-up player and O'Brien first choice.Weird one because for me looking at the midfeild 4 we have Yates, Managla (if he signs), Colback and O'Brien. You would say we have 3 CDM and 1 CM in Yates. So if you wanted a player to get forward more you would still play Yates with either Mangala or O'Brien so maybe O'Brien is a backup? Be mad that.... However I havent a clue what the club are thinking. I have no issues with O'Brien backup that would make our squad depth great.
I know I got pelters but I dont see Yates as a pivotal starter more of a useful squad rotation player! That will get plenty of game time but more of rotation.
I think the importance of Garner and Yates managing the majority of last season as the 2 CMs chasing the whole game without picking up a knock or strain is often overlooked by fans. Especially during the last stretch where the games were thick and fast and they'd both last 90 minutes.
Whilst there are fewer Prem games, the intensity will be greater and the opposition will be better at evading our press. If we're not getting anymore CMs in, then I hope we're just as lucky with injuries.
With 5 subs this season that means we can swap out our two CMs for free and carry on our energy in that position. Having a quad of Yates, Garner, O'Brien and 1 other would mean we could harry the opposition relentlessly for the whole game.
I think we'll get him late on in the window.
Possible, but I could also see all three of them together in a three-man midfield, perhaps if Forest switched to a back-four.
Then you’d have a fascinating blend of skills.
Looking at Mangala last season he dosen’t really get goals. So depends how cooper views that role. I am also sceptical Yates will get double figures goals again in the prem which is the main attribute for him starting in my opinion. Although deserves a crack of the whip to shut me up a few players did last season. Anyway I trust coops whatever his plan isI think Yates has been a big "miss" since injuring his knee in Spain, and I think when he is fit again he will play an important role in our season, and not as a back-up player. Edit: I hadn't read the post about Ornstein's post and the piece in the Athletic. If Mangala comes in, then it will be interesting to see whether Yates or Mangala gets the nod. If he does get signed I think we can forget about Jimmy Garner.
Isn't Mangala closer to O'Brien in that both like to dribble to carry the ball forward? Not something Yates excels at.In truth. Mangala probably has better technique than Yates does, but they do occupy similar positions.
Yesh, that’s why I say, Mangala has the better technique, because he can do the close-control stuff that Yatesy doesn’t (as yet, anyway).Isn't Mangala closer to O'Brien in that both like to dribble to carry the ball forward? Not something Yates excels at.

I can't see three of them playing as you are looking at dropping Lingard or Johnson then. I imagine it will be two from three and probably rotated and subbed a lot to keep the energy high.Possible, but I could also see all three of them together in a three-man midfield, perhaps if Forest switched to a back-four.
