always amused by the press with the “ Forest targeting/linked with..”
our recruitment team and manager will have been working on this for months and aren’t to drop names by accident over a pint in the Fox&Duck

You're doing a disservice to the Nottingham Post. Ms Clapson will have a small army of unpaid media-student-interns from Trent University trawling the internet in search of even the vaguest snippet of a transfer rumour.

None of the media outlets seem to have worked out what level we are aiming at yet. We’ve been linked with 20m+ players and also some rando foreign frees.

Latest one is some 32 year old bloke at Salernitana who flopped at Bristol City a few years ago.

Can’t see him being on Dane or Steve’s radar….

Have you seen what Salernitana has been through this season? Crazy story.

Let's go for Valentin Castellanos. He'll be known to Dane, and looks way too good for the MLS where he's currently playing.

Watching the Catellanos highlights underscores what a poor league MLS is. He looks a halfway decent player BUT will he enjoy playing in England?

End of 1977 season.

Lloyd too slow, Clark too slow and too old, need a RB,McGovern too lightweight and slow,Robertson too slow to be a 1st Division winger.

I had all these conversations with various people.
I felt the Clough promotion team would easily finish mid-table without too many additions-the Withe/Woodcock/
Robertson combination looked quality.
I must confess that Lloyd looked way too slow when I visited Burnley in April 1977-despite Forest playing some
brilliant football and winning 1-0 with a Tony Woodcock goal.I suppose Clough’s masterstroke of putting Kenny
Burns alongside Lloyd took some pressure off as Burns could read the game very well(he was outstanding in our
Championship winning season).
The biggest difference in those days was that the gap between the 1st and 2nd tier wasn’t nearly as wide as it
is nowadays.

I have read about three players in Italian news headlines:
- Milan Djuric, playing at Salernitana (Italy - Serie A) -> very tall - good as a pivot and head balls. Extremely slow and not able with feet. Hope he stays at Salernitana
- Smallbone and Broja -> anyone knows about them?

Huh am I just missing the gag? That's about Deyna Castellanos signing for MC's women's side - Valentin reportedly being lined up by Leeds.

both have same name - Castellanos! and signed today, so timing was good.

That was not my point,my point was that Mr Clough and Cooper know far more about football than any f***er on here

I'll be honest, the names we're being linked with do concern me and I think if that's the level of talent we're going for then we're going straight back down.
When it comes to our loan players, if we were staying in the Championship, i'd be delighted but Norwich and Fulham have shown us that there is a chasm between the Championship and the Premierleague.

We're not going to be able to play the same kind of football we've played this year against better teams so why would we want the same players.

Right now, Johnson and Garner are a class above everyone else in the team but that is the level we need to aim for. I can't decide on Spence, it all depends on the money involved.
Zinckernagel will probably be a big player for Watford this season and Davis would make a great Championship striker for someone but Zinc isn't consistent enough and I don't think Davis gets the same license against Premierleague defenders.
Lowe felt more like a squad player than a starter too.

The names we're being linked with remind me of Sheffield United or Norwich's approach, with the exception of Gibbs-White or Brereton-Diaz.
I think MGW is very much on that level with Garner and Johnson, while Brereton-Diaz has international experience and came off a really good Championship season.

I look at Villa's second season Prem windows and they signed Watkins, Cash and Martinez for about £60m. Watkins had proven himself to be one of the best young English strikers, Cash was the best right back in the league and Martinez had lots of Prem/National experience.
They released a whole bunch of Championship surplus and built around Grealish.

I get we had two really good windows with Dane but 2/3rds of the squad was already in place before that.
We're very light on experience of the Premierleague and names like Rothwell, Rodon, Broja, Smallbone etc.. don't fill me with confidence.

I don't think we should break the bank but at the same time, it feels like we're building a better Championship team right now.

we should also try to recruit some outstanding young talents from league 2 and 1 , loan them out to the championship for experience , i.e kane wilson , Brendan Wiredu and Chiedozie Ogbene , the roi rwb who's too good to stay in lg 1 for long. there's also 20 year old Ayoub Assal from wimbledon who can play down both flanks.

General consensus that the team I posted earlier would be relegated by Christmas. That might be so. But we're also not in a position to buy a completely new team. In the first season, and hopefully not our last, Samba, Worrall, McKenna, Cook, Yates, Johnson will be some of the first names on the team sheet.

Then you'd hope we bring in some quality additions or we buy our loans. So add Spence to that list and say we buy MGW (I'd still buy Zincs as a squad player). The trouble is. Those two could cost us £40m. That won't leave a whole lot left. Even add Davis to that list and that might well be our Summer signings done.

Bringing in the likes of Rothwell and Wallace on frees is a good idea. If we do bring them in, Cooper will have every intention that they're good enough for the top flight and can play a part. The £170m touted includes parachute payments. The £90m or so extra we receive will be for Year 1.. can't see us spending more than £60m of it. That's MGW, Spence and possibly a couple more 'Davis quality' additions. Interesting to see the club are still trying to work some loans and that's a good thing.

I fully appreciate the team I posted would be great for the championship. I must say, I'd have half an eye on that anyway. The trouble with getting promoted with so many loans to help us up - they leave an expensive hole. We're going to need team spirit, Cooper magic and a whole lot of luck to stay up. Should we fail. We don't panic. Bounce straight back and built more.

Reading a lot of the posts here, and while I agree we have to build around the core of the squad, picking up frees from the championship is really not going to cut it. The owner also said TV money wasn’t going to be enough and he will top it up, so if you listen to those words I suspect a few quality signings on top of securing key loan players. I think we have to get around the fact transfer fees and salaries are going to be something we haven’t seen before. On that basis I would be hoping for something like the following:

Defence - Spence for Sure, Rodon as young back up and Lascelles for his prem experience. Toffolo at left back with Lowe as back up.

Midfield - try and keep Garner, Sander Berge, and maybe push the boat out for Harry Winks. O’Brien also has slot of quality.

Attack - keep Davis, and supplement with Gibbs-White, and add Someone like Piroe or Lewis-Potter

While not many have huge amounts of Prem experience they are all better than what we have, and we would maintain that young player philosophy that we can build in for the future.

That's about £160m worth of transfer fees to stump up...
