Re: As yet unappointed Manager #50

Successive playoff finishes with Swansea City... who had recently been in the Premier League (for seven years) and were still receiving parachute payments

Not being funny but you'd expect most managers to make the playoffs in those circumstances

Would you?

Last season Cooper played the following:

4-3-3: 8 times
4-2-3-1: 2 times
3-5-2: 27 times
3-4-1-2: 10 times
3-4-3: 1 time

Not being funny but Swansea’s cost cutting and financial troubles have been pretty common news so not sure your argument stacks up.

Usually we'd have the new man in place by now. What's the holdup Forest?

Mixed feedback from Swansea fans. Twitter probably not the most reliable source but he sounds like a younger Hughton in stylistic terms.

News to me!

I retract my argument if that's the case

Re: As yet unappointed Manager #50

I’m looking forward to seeing him name 2 defensive midfielders on his first team sheet.

If one of them is Garner it's less of a problem. If it's Colback and Yates then we have trouble.

His Swansea side didn't have any issues with pressing forward for goals against us in the Cup. They didn't sit back to defend a lead.

Watching Swansea under him the wing/full backs and Matt Grimes were real key players. Garner has the ability to run the midfield like Grimes did so hopefully Cooper can bring that out of him and we've got an abundance of right and left backs now too, most of whom I think are more suited to playing as wing backs.

Sadly we are in such a crisis being already cut adrift at the bottom that this season isn’t about wider plans anymore it’s just about survival.
Whatever Danes instincts are I just can’t see him being allowed to bring in anyone other than an experienced championship manager at present. There’s no longer term at the moment-f*** up the next 10 games and we are odds on down.
It is about survival and we are adrift. However, two wins and, although precarious, the situation is far more positive

Not many teams have any issues attacking us mind.

I thought Swansea teams are normally possession based, not in keeping with houghton style which was……………I never knew what we trying to achieve.

Re: As yet unappointed Manager #50

Although it's long been assumed that Murphy favours coaches who employ a high-press style (as obviously evidenced by his record at Barnsley), because the philosophy of our academy is primarily possession-based, bringing-in someone like Cooper probably makes more sense, in terms of the potential transition into the first-team from the development squad, along with his highly-regarded reputation for developing young players.

Having all of the age-groups through the academy to the first-team largely playing a similar way makes far more sense. I'd also hope that Gary Brazil may have had some input in the decision if Cooper is indeed appointed.

I defo think that the younger player aspect will be more key to our thinking than tactics for sure.

But personally I'd sooner see someone like Appleton who does that, and who plays a better brand of football too.

Would love Appleton.

Think he’d struggle with our mix match of players though. He would have needed a summer window. Took a few windows to get Lincoln going after transitioning from Crowley.

Re: As yet unappointed Manager #50

I thought the only time we looked decent under Hughton was when we played Swansea away last season, we pressed them, created chances but couldn't score and they robbed us with a late goal. Hughton seemed to vow never to play like that again ???
I remember Swansea went though a spell of playing crap and fluking wins.

So disappointed with Cooper.

Another defensive manager hired purely because of successful seasons with a club in a much better position than us.

Nothing learned.

I really thought we would think outside the box this time, clearly we haven’t.

I may be wrong but I think in Coopers first season where they looked good he had a few prem loans who did very well, when they left things went downhill a bit and he got more defensive.

As always when I think things are a bit shit I hope I’m wrong and Cooper is the man, I’m not excited in the slightest though.

We might as well bring back Freedman if we’re not arsed about style of play, he did a good job with a dog shit side.

I don't know much about Cooper to be honest. Can someone summarise his football in a pithy sentence?
