I’m not sure about you lot but I still want to know if Semedo is Portugese or not this is the real issue

He’s from Guinea-Bissau, a former Portuguese colony in West Africa. I presume he has spent most of his life in Portugal.

Edit: moved there at 16 to join Benfica. He’ll have Portuguese citizenship by now

So whether that makes him Portuguese or not is another divisive forum subject only worth raising if you're bored and you've a couple of hours to troll.

Thank f*** they didn't do a Carvalho on us and get 25m from us for this kid too.

Got talent, got drive, got goals, but so clearly learning his trade still it's unreal.

Fine for the odd goal from the bench. Hope we don't have to rely on him starting too much.

Semedo wasn't great tonight and needs a hell of a lot more work done before he's up to scratch at Championship level, let alone anything higher.

In fairness to him though, he's the only one of the loans who've come close to performing at an acceptable level.

Guilty as anyone first half with the f*** ups. Shaky throughout, I dont see the player I saw in his early time here.

What sets him apart is his ability to run at players box to box, think he made one run tonight. Didn't impose himself at all.

Nottingham's dirty secret
Has the ability to do something special but in general his first touch, passing and positional awareness are far too erratic for him to be a starter in a team going for promotion.

Makes the midfield look disjointed whenever he plays.

He doesn't have the discipline you want from him. I like his rangey style, he competes. But he's probably best off being an option with 30 to go, at the tip of a midfield three, driving against tiring legs, pinching balls and carrying the ball.

I like Samba Sow, and he's important. But it's another example of poor recruitment from us. Having someone we rely on so heavily, who's only played more than 30 times in a season three times out of ten. It's such an important facet. The core of your team needs to be reliable for 40 games a season or so.

Sharpness and timing-wise, he looked like someone who had been thust into a tough Championship game having played barely any football for two months. Can't think why?

I was about to say the same thing, cut him some slack.

However, it further highlights the quality of Yates in his instant impact coming back from similar layoffs as Carvalho and Semedo.

As an impact sub I think he's fine. But we look SO much more vulnerable with him starting.

As Mullet says, he lacks positional discipline and our game's based around that to a large degree, which makes him a liability until he brings that up to speed.

Throw in the fact he's not super robust & off back to another club next season, and 3rd choice impact sub is about right for him at the mo.

Similar to Carvalho, clearly has talent, long way from taking that from the bedroom to the big stage yet.

Rumours in the Greek press that he might make the trip from Nottingham to Piraeus.

It makes some sense, I guess. Extremely talented, in my view, but still very rough around the edges, and you need solid midfielders, while we only need a fourth choice midfielder to make up numbers in case of an injury.

The funny thing about it is that we already have Rúben Semedo (excellent CB) and we just agreed terms with Lisandro Semedo (winger). So we could have three Semedos, one in each line.

Semedo has all the attributes to be a decent player and with good coaching, he'll likely have a good career.

Destined for Champions League squad player/UEFA Cup starter level in my book.

Nottingham's dirty secret
I remember watching a clip of his time at Espanyol where he looked terrible and was confused at his supposed £25 mill price tag and the supposed high esteem he's held in.

Turns out the clip was fairly representative of his general play for us barring his first game or two. He's erratic and positionally all over the place. I'd be glad to see him go in January if we can source another decent cm.

Of course, if Semedo goes, you need two midfielders instead of just one.

Good summary.

He's a 3rd/4th choice handy option amongst another 4 or 5 handy options. Out of all the loans he's been the best, simply coz he's got goals in his locker.

I like seeing him come on late in games when we need a goal scored, or we're showboating ala QPR, but I don't like seeing him start games. He's too easy to exploit.

Reminds me of Steven N'Zonzi when he first came over to Blackburn and then Stoke.

Meh, don't see it yet personally.

Decent engine but passing is often poor, positional play needs development and decision making is subpar.

He's not even a decent Championship midfielder yet so to claim he'll go on to play in Europe seems a bit far fetched for what we've seen from him so far.
