I thought the ref was just about OK, but the reliance of the officials on VAR is almost laughable.

It's as if they can leave a contentious decision because the VAR will adjudicate. If VAR don't do anything then they can blame it on the technology.

Their disallowed goal was a classic example of deferring a decision.

BJ's disallowed goal - from the worst offside judgement seat in the ground practically, I saw he was offside in real time.

They showed a replay on the big screen. One camera, two seconds. Offside.

What the hell took VAR best part of 2 minutes to make the call?

I haven’t seen the VAR stills, but those who watched suggested it was extremely close.

VAR decisions all correct. My issue so far is the consistency as we’ve had 7 players booked in 2 games, the opposition 1.

Newcastle, couple of Forest players booked for pulling back… Newcastle players did it to stop attacks, no bookings.

Today. West Ham taking f***ing ages on goal kicks and throw ins. Forest go 1-0 up, Henderson booked for time wasting, seemingly without warning. Yet West Ham keeper can put the ball down, pick it up to throw it to a defender to put it down and pass back to the keeper. Make it make sense.

Also, Surridge shoved over, clear free kick but no, gets booked for trying to grab the ball or something.

Dawson pulled Surridge back, no yellow for that.

Antonio two handed shove on Niakhate, no booking for that.

West Ham player went in recklessly on Neco Williams before their penalty, ref doesn’t even bat an eyelid at it.

The linesman were ok but the ref was terrible.
Agree with most of this but Hendo had been warned a few minutes before ( after our ballboy ignored the new multiball rules) and Hendo further dallied over the kick.
As others have said the officials got three big decisions wrong and VAR corrected them. Why it takes so long for ‘clear and obvious errors’ requiring the ref to look at the screen is odd.
We will be playing late into the evening at the 8.00pm kick off games.

I was hoping they’d find that magic camera angle with fancy grid lines they pulled out during our FA Cup game v Liverpool.

On a more serious note, there’s a ref watch thing on Sky where Dermot Gallagher analyses the big decisions including VAR. he reckons they were spot on yesterday but just don’t mention that to Derby or Huddersfield fans.

Watching on TV I could see he was offside and I'm in Spain, was surprised when there was no flag.
Linesmen have been instructed NOT to put the flag up in one on one situations like that, if the decision is close, even if linesman thinks it is confident the player is offside.

It was quite close but I thought he was offside in real time so didn't expect the goal to stand.

I still whinge about the small things which irritate no end. The one that really pisses me off is picking the ball up after a free kick is awarded against a player. Then running off with the ball and dropping the ball or throwing it away. To me that must be ungentlemanly conduct and a yellow card. It would soon stop. So many little things like this would be easy to stop if they were bothered about them, but the powers that be are more concerned with cluttering the game up with more and more 'guidelines' than actually enforcing laws that are already there. Timewasting by goalkeepers, they have six seconds to release the ball, the fourth official could easily sort that one instead of standing on the sideline preening themselves.

If they really care about the offside law, that could easily be rectified by a complete overhaul of the rules, discarding the dog's dinner we have at the moment, which nobody understands properly.

I think there is a case for the 'sin bin' for, say, ten minutes. McKenna could have gone in for ten minutes after his handball, would have saved all the angst by the opposition calling for a red card.

The refereeing in the Chelsea/Spurs game was atrocious.

Chelsea player gets slammed to the ground by his hair, and the referees didn't overturn the decision when Spurs go on to score.

Mike Dean, who was on the VAR, has now admitted that he got that wrong.

In the build up to the West Ham penalty, the officials missed a reckless and two footed tackle on Williams. If WH had scored the penalty, we could have had the grounds to feel aggrieved.

This is absolute brilliant from former referee Kevin Lynch. I'm laughing my head off tonight.

I bet he wouldn‘t dare say that to Roy‘s face, the former Midfield enforcer would snap him in half.

I think English refs, right now, are not in a good place. Tierney was real poor in the Liverpool-Crystal Palace game. I watch a lot of Bundesliga and the German refs are FAR superior to their English counterparts. It isn't even close, imho.

I must admit, I have found the standard of Refereeing in the Bundesliga to be somewhat better than the equivalent English level. And I don‘t know why that would be, because Germany‘s officials - unlike their English counterparts - are not full-time professionals?

Maybe it is the thoroughness of your typical German that makes it so? The use of VAR in the BuLi also seems to be better organised, with less second-guessing of the man in the middle, and VAR only intervening if the VAR „War Room“ in Köln thinks the official has missed something (or, rarely, made an error) and then they invite him to look at it.

Germany*s current top whistler, Dr. Felix Brych, is a lawyer in his day-job - he represents the Bayern FA (he is from München, and still practices law there, and has a Doctorate in Sports Law).

30 minutes in already a poor showing and it’s that word consistency again.

Williams shoved over, a similar foul to what Worrall was booked for, not even a foul. Then booked himself.

Brennan Johnson foot stood on, neither ref or linesman spot it.

Coady handballs it then kicks the ball away, no yellow card. Seem to remember us getting 3 yellow cards for time wasting last week.

Having just got back from the game I’m surprised that this thread hasn’t been added to.

Obviously all of the decisions that I thought were bizarre during the game were actually proved to be perfectly good on TV?

For the most part, Pawson did fine. We'll see worse refereeing performances this season.

Every 50/50 went Spurs way which was getting on my tits until he didn't send Cook off.

No consistency and oblivious to Spurs dark arts.

Maybe we are a bit too obvious but we don’t seem to be shown the same leniency as the opposition.

The main thing that annoyed me was the ref gave Spurs a foul for a dive in front of the dugouts, then gave a foul against Awonyi for a soft barge ont he centre back after the centre back had pushed him first (which the ref obviously missed), but then Richarlison is allowed to barge our player over then sets up the second goal.

Again, no consistency and it cost us.

Henderson got summarily booked the other week for significantly less time wasting than Lloris didn't get booked for today.

It's the inconsistency that pisses me off.

Also the "don't put your offside flag up until some time next week." stupidity.

There was no question of Son's offside-ness with that one, and Hendo could easily have been hurt trying to make a needless save. f*** that policy off right now. By all means if it's marginal - that wasn't even nearly marginal.

Also how did we end up with 6 yellows?

Son - deliberate handball which if not spotted would have had him through on goal. That is an instant, no brain required, yellow card.

But not today.
