Gordon McQeen has sadly passed away.
An other part of my football childhood gone to the sky.
Came across as nice person.

He was the first footballer I met in person, I think. He came and did a talk to my junior football team, bringing along his medals and caps. He answered our daft questions, like “Why didn’t you play for England?” and “Were you a regular?”, with a smile and good grace. Nice bloke. Sad news.

I do recall that Mr Clough broke all the rules by announcing he wanted to sign either McQueen, Hart or Willie Young. He only bought two of them but maybe he should have bought the one he missed R.I.P Gordon McQueen

RIP both of them. I bet they would have told some great stories over the years of their playing days.

RIP Gordon
My favourite Gordon McQueen story was the one Mick Mills told.
It was the famous 1977 England Scotland game at Wembley, players were coming out through the tunnel and Mills was shocked at the sight and sound of so many Scottish fans there, thousands had sneaked in without tickets, yellow flags everywhere. Mills gets a bit rattled by it. McQueen leans over and growls in his ear “can ye smell the whisky Millsy can ye smell the whisky?”

Blimey - he was only 70 - and probably far fitter than I am at 67.

It makes you wonder doesn’t it
