But it’s not pushing the boat out-that implies paying a little more. This is 50M FGS it’s the majority of last years turn over
It’s easy to look on the bright side and say he will be worth X (although I doubt he’ll ever be worth more than 50) but what if things don’t work out as we hope this year?
Only read afterwards that they are “asking” for £50M.
Obviously we’re not going to pay that and nor should we. Smacks of posturing and playing to their supporters. Interesting to see how it pans out if MGW puts in a transfer request

Be patient

They are not going to sell whilst they have 4 attacking players for 3 positions, and half of them are out of position

Why are people so bothered about the fee? It’s not your money and Marinakis is not going to leave us in the shit financially so who cares?

I think Gibbs-White is a cracking player and I’d love to see him in the Garibaldi. Makes no difference what he’ll cost, how much we’ll pay him or what I think of either.

I get that football discussion also includes the finances, but some people are like “move on!” “Walk away!” “No chance!” like they are the FD….

Why are people so bothered about the player? he's done nothing to warrant a 30 mill price tag.
Am I missing the times he's pulled up trees and that?
He hasn't done a thing.

Like it or not football is now 50% what happens on the field and 50% accountancy, marketing and analytics.

If you're not interested in the second part that's cool but some of us are.

When your children and wife get targeted there comes a point where you question if it's worthwhile...

He also didn't leave us in the shit, he continued to fund us after stepping away (yes not to the same levels) and he ensured the club was sold for a fraction of it's worth to someone that promised to invest in us.

That it ended up being a fuckwit can't really be laid at his door.

MGW will now hold the key to this. £30m would get him if the player himself wants to leave. This'll roll on to the end of the window. I wonder how much will depend on ours and Wolves' start to the season? He might decide to stay put if the first 3-4 games don't go to plan

I am not saying I’m not interested, just that ultimately none of our opinions on it matter. No problem with people saying they think x amount is too much etc. it’s just the people telling the club what to do that I don’t get. Murphy and Marinakis are not making decisions based off a fans forum.

There's a fella who lives round our way, plays a mean keepy uppy, headers and volleys and stuff.
Lets pay him 30 million pounds.
I'm not his agent or anything

If Wolves have a bad start, with or without MGW in the team, perhaps they will be more amenable to accepting an offer of around 30m either late this window or in Jan.

It may not be 'their' money but it is the money of the club they love and follow. 50m is a lot of that money.

The whole concept of worth went out the window when average players started earning the average salary in a week, which was sometime in the 90s so I don’t really see how a multi-millionaire spending 25m pound or 30m pound on a player makes any difference to the average fan

The 50m thing is a bit of a red herring - you don't go from 20 to 30 to 50 million in one preseason because of a managers desire to keep you. Like anyone, he will have his price, and while the manager may value him if the player wants out he will get out. I hope he isn't in the squad today as that will tell us all we need to know, if he is, let's see... longer game at play though I still back us; for us to be pushing as hard as we are tells you that there's an agreement in place with the player.

I'm going to try to bow out of this thread now, since it's all become a bit circular in the 'i want him' - 'he's to expensive' loop. I hope we get what Coops wants, and think he would be a real asset for us. Like anything, that's a gamble and open to debate.

He also left us an academy that’s kept us going for umpteen years

You could say after they tucked us up with Mir and Bonatini they kind of owe us something :ROFLMAO:

Reality is though, they think of him like we think of Brennan. He seemed to be a focal point of their pre-season and they've only brought in two players so far. Would MGW be replaced for them, if so, do they have a replacement in mind?

He very well might want to play here instead of Wolves but I don't think enough to try and force a move because as someone said, it's probably a sideways move, in some ways a bit of a risk.

I think I read a reputable journalist say that one of the issues was that Wolves felt that some of our add-ons would never come to fruition. Probably stuff like getting into Europe or MGW playing for England's first team.

We also said it was our final offer so if we turn around and 2 days later offer them more money, doesn't do much for our bargaining position does it.

It's one of those times you would ideally like him to pull the sort of stunt players would when they left us.

I raise you Adam Proudlock and George Elokobi.

Although I didn't think Big George was that bad for us. And I always like to see a big owd unit on the pitch. Like that yoth Ade Akinseehimbeeingabouncerwhenizretiredfromfootball, or whareva is name iz ooh played fo Whycombee Wandruz n McDonalds, mongst uvvers.
