A call for FIFA to reform or be abolished

I'm Red Till Dead

Stuart Pearce
I just received an email from Change.org calling on FIFA to transform itself or be abolished.

The petition points out a number of issues relating to the current World Cup and also cites the allegations of corruption, racketeering, bribery, violations of ethics, ticket scams, and the mismanagement of sexual abuse cases that have been made in the recent past.

Although I very much doubt that FIFA would take any notice of such a petition ( they don't seem like that kind of organisation to bow to fans ) if the sponsors and member associations can see a high levels of disquiet in the fans feelings perhaps they can bring pressure to bear to get FIFA to change.

The petition can be seen and signed here - Save football from FIFA

Will make no difference, football would just continue without Denmark, same with any other European nation until they eventually decide to come back. The abolishment of fifa is a very European view.

The rest of the world has rightly and wrongly benefits greatly from FIFA. Smaller nations have been completely transformed by FIFA, that’s why the incumbent president always gets re-elected.

I don’t think anything will be changing unless that changes.

The only people who want to reform FIFA are the top 10 western European nations.

FIFA has 209 member nations.

Don't want to be defeatist but as long as the incentive is mass profit, then the global governing body of football will always be corrupt to some extent.

What would happen if the top 10 Western nations left FIFA though?
Nothing would happen, the world cup would continue as normal & those that left would only have the Euros to play in.

Would be the equaivalent of Spurs, Chelsea & Villa pulling out of the Prem. Would anything change because of it? No

And you would be talking 4 or 5 nations at the most that would end up leaving FIFA. They would never attract other nations to whatever organisation they create because other nations and regions benefit greatly from FIFA.

There's a load of dross at this WC & there will be even more at the next one when bent FIFA expand it even more

A WC without England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, Denmark would be complete shite & FIFA would lose millions in sponsorship

Still it might Scotland a chance to qualify

Do it big European nations, tell FIFA to poke it up their arse

The top European Nations couldn't simply notvtake part on the World Cup, they'd have to leave FIFA. And by virtue UEFA.

That raises all kind of problems.

It's not even a threat, it would be so strategically weak that none would think about it.

No way can we get rid of FIFA. There simply is no one to take over. It's like the success or failure of the village fete. If you have someone who wants to take control and do the work, it will succeed, if you have a half-hearted leader who is only doing it because nobody else will, it will go ahead, but be a bit half-arsed.

What the major football nations need to do, is take a leaf out of the Book of Boba Fett.

Go to FIFA HQ, start blasting, and just take it over.

Its a beautiful dream but never gonna happen UNLESS the source of the wealth that keeps FIFA alive and (however corruptly) sends money around the world to the national associations of many of the poorest countries in the world were to dry up. Their money is their power. All associations, no matter how small, have a vote in the FIFA constitution that counts as much as England's, Germany's Denmark's etc that's how Blatter and his ilk managed to get and stay in power, by promising that the domination of the rich countries would end.

The only FIFA way could be ended were if countries and regional bodies like UEFA, CONCACAF etc resigned from FIFA and moved to a new organisation. But that new organisation would require funding which would have to come from the same source or similar as FIFA's, so the sponsors who pour in billions in to FIFA would need to be convinced to support this new organisation and would either have to let their contracts run down or break them, and risk being sued. This new organisation would need to convince the small nations, the likes of Malawi, Mali, etc that they would get funds from the new organisation that matched or most likely exceeded the support these nations receive from FIFA. And these organisation who are headed by people who are generously rewarded by FIFA (in many, ahem, ways) would then have to take the decision to turn their back on the organsation that has made them wealthy and influential to throw in their lot with an organisation that promises what, a fair days pay for a fair days work?

I would love nothing more, but the world doesn't work that way.

I think FIFA as a concept is great, it's the idiot who manages to get to be the boss that's the problem. They're business men/administrators at heart more interested in money than football. The President of FIFA should be a footballing man (maybe not Platini though 😆)

One issue that will never change---as long as there is a shitload of cash associated with any entity (be it FIFA or otherwise) there will be a plethora of scumbags seeing an opportunity to line their pockets. YOu could abolish it and call it PeeWee's Playhouse, and the same would still apply. So, onwards.........
