Nuno's doing a good job. I understand folk are sad that he's replaced Cooper, but given he hasn't really had a window and has had to work with the player inherited, in circumstances I doubt he signed up for (deduction) I think he's done a good job.

I find the whole 'slow' thing ludicrous and completely disrespectful tbh - he's clearly needed to stem the flow of goals and has set us up to achieve that, while still attempting to get a foothold on possession and threaten going forward. Don't like that he's playing players you don't rate? Well that's football management for you - I'd love to see my favourites out there every week, but as last night showed we'd be forever frail at set pieces. Also, trying to pick 11 favoured/good ones is going to be hard, given several of last night's 11 had been written off at various points in their forest careers.

And really tactically most posters, myself included, haven't got a clue in terms of how we set up and/or adapt to opposition threats. Football management is about so much more than picking your 11 favourite players.

The other recent one I've seen creep in (in various places, not just here) is the 'diesnt want to be here' line - watch him post wolves games in their successful period... It's not much different. And as if managers play out their views in public - strikes me as a real taskmaster who will fight for his players and expect the same from them. Also, football managers generally appear happier after a win, and we've not had too many of those of late.

There are very few premier league managers we could have attracted with the record of Nuno - I think that earns him some respect. I remain keen to see what he can do with this squad with a couple of windows. I'm very much 'in Nuno we trust' mode, and I certainly don't think I could do better.

I can agree with all of that and he's now on an unbeaten streak. He'll need to have figured out how to repeat it if he can't continue it.

Same with some of the players, MGW especially, looking pissed off on Saturday = “doesn’t want to be here, he’ll be on the phone to his agent tomorrow”.

Would people prefer he was laughing and joking his way through a relegation battle? I suspect not somehow.

We've not progressed at all under him, last night was a good first half and a battling second but it's been a rarity.
I can only see more struggles to stay up, if we do this season.

You're right, I'm now convinced. We've not moved forward. We really haven't shown that we can score goals in the Premier League since he came in. We don't utilise our players any better than we did and Wood and Williams in particular (and CHO to a point) don't look like completely different players.

I think it’s taken Nuno a while to work out his best 11 but he got it right last night. You could bring Boly or Dominguez in to mix it up a bit, but I’d be happy with the Fulham 11 for the remainder of the season (injury dependent).

We have a bloated squad, so it takes a while for managers to work out the best 11. I think Steve Cooper got bogged down with it all and that’s why we need to have a calmer summer transfer window with a strategic plan as opposed to a scatter gun approach.

Montiel and Sangare have both been disappointing, but there’s probably been pressure on Cooper and Nuno to start them because of their reputation. I don’t mind if Nuno decided to tinker with the lineup, if he eventually gets it right.

I see no reason why he can’t play the exact same 11 at Spurs; if he reverts back to Origi and Felipe starting, I’ll be disappointed.

It was great to see some passion from him in the dugout as well. A few concerns about him long term, but let’s face it, there’s not many quality managers around atm. If he finishes the season well, I’d be delighted for him.

Last nights first half was the best 45 minutes we’ve played since promotion.

I have to admit I find it a bit silly how folk are criticising him for not knowing his best 11 when he’s only been here 3 months - I’m not fully convinced Cooper knew his either after 18 months in this league.

I’m not even saying Cooper should be criticised for it either as every window we sign a bench worth of new talent which obviously means you’re constantly accessing the squad.

I’m convinced by Nuno, infact his record convinced me from the start.

His career in management wasn’t conjured up by luck, he’s genuinely a good coach and anyone saying otherwise is wrong.

No one human is perfect and let’s be honest, Elangas form has dropped off a damn cliff and if Origi scored atleast 1/4th of his f***ing chances Nuno would be getting half the stick he was getting prior to the Fulham game.

The amount of chances we’ve spurred is ridiculous and that’s both under cooper and Nuno. Players need to wake the hell up and last night was a good start.

I think the whole "knowing your best eleven" thing is a bit of a myth personally

You need different players for different opposition / situations so there's likely to be changes here and there game to game

You're always going to have core players that start most games, MGW for example but outside of those any kind of dynamic manager will look to play a side best suited to getting a result against the opposition of the day, regardless of whether that matches the previous starting eleven or not

Just my take, mind

Ur right and especially for a team like us where we aren’t going to have a “dominant” 11 like the top 6 teams. Data + managers intuition dictates a lot of the fringe starters in the 11 and being dynamic will only aid us in the long run. As long as individual mistakes are corrected anyway.

I suspect Nuno might agree with you, based only on that 'never' answer to the when will you know your best 11 question.

Agree.

He was choosing Origi for specific tactical reasons not because he thinks Origi is a better player than Elanga.

As the manager he gets to live and die by those decisions but it's never a case of 'doesn't know best 11' - even our dumbest managers know the 11 they want to pick within a few weeks, it's just about whether the combinations and units they've chosen actually work.

I might be wrong but I think there is some overreacting to last nights result. Yes Nuno got it right and the first half was superb but let's not instantly forget the bad tactics/subs he has made recently. If he continues to get it right then I'm happy to be all in on Nuno, but certainly not on one result.

I think the difficulty with Forest has been establishing a core group, because of the huge influx of players. Let's take the 2 centre backs and the keeper, I should imagine that combination of 3 players has changed a ridiculous amount of times. I think you need to "know your best 15" and that has been really difficult for Nuno and it was for Cooper. Montiel and Sangare being two players who you think would have featured in that core group and I doubt these two will start again.

He hasn't had a window to work with? Eh?

Apart from Jan, when we bought in several players and shipped even more out? 🤔

Also, as for "slow" being "disrespectful", how else would you describe someone who's taken a fair bit of time to recognize stuff which seemed obvious to many, and who didn't learn from past lessons such as Nik at LB?

I'll gladly use another term to spare of your feelings if it matters that much.

Yes I fully expect us to be nailed on for relegation and Nuno on the brink of the sack again when we lose 2-1 on Sunday.

tbh it wouldn't be a shock if Luton beat Bournemouth and we lose to Spurs, so we could be right back in the thick of it on Sunday. Expect Nuno to be extremely motivated for our next two games though, given his history.

The "not knowing your best 11" is a simplified version of the criticisms I've made and seen, which was not starting with your best players against weak team there for the taking.

Sorry, but anyone who thinks starting Sangare and Origi ahead of Danilo/Dom and Elanga against vulnerable teams like Palace is something you have to be a football manager to recognize is way off base.

Yes Jan, when the club were charged with a PSR breach, which you assume might have altered plans a little.

Well I wouldn't describe it as that (re recognize stuff) at all, obviously, hence the disrespectful tag.

As for the latter why would it matter to me what term you use? I'm not here trying to change opinions, though I will offer mine and (occasionally) challenge. Isn't that what this is for?

Breach or not, we still moved players in and out the club. Making out that didn't happen is just not reality. Sure, it may not have been ideal, but the fact that he got a top keeper in probably made it as good as the Summer window in terms of vital players in vital positions recruited.

If you find the term disrespectful, I thought maybe I could find a more respectful one.

Who knows, the cherries are dark horses for Europe so that’ll be huge motivation to kill Luton.
