Some of the best football seen at the City Ground for along time Saturday. Without looking at any comprisons between Cooper & Nuno, the change looks more than justified.
As compared to what ? 😁

Important to also note that Nuno has only had 1 (one) full 7 day period to prepare the team for the next EPL game since he came in. That was before West Ham.

And probably the first week with players back from Afcon

Nuno got it wrong today; I wasn’t expecting a result tbh but the manner of it was disappointing. I was in the away end and didn’t notice Nuno coming over to the fans, maybe he did and I missed it. We really need to come up with a chant for Nuno, something different to the Cooper ones. Feel our chant playbook is a bit thin on the ground without a manager chant.

Is he really any better than Cooper?

What's your opinion?

Mods, could we have a poll
We're slightly better but Cooper was open to change so I'd class it as even. Don't think we'd be down with either of em if it wasn't for the points deduction but I miss Cooper. Home atmosphere isn't the same since he's been gone (Kelly Clarkson)

Similar to yourself except to say that the atmosphere hasn't been the same all season irrespective of which manager was in charge.

The second word in our manager chant over the years has often been OUT.

Under Cooper near the end, we couldn't pass, score or defend and were going down for sure.
Hard disagree. People were saying he same last season, but get Cooper a good keeper and Awoniyi back (similar to last season) and I fancied us to stay up.

We literally saw an "impossible" turnaround happen last year. I find it strange people think that couldn't happen again tbh.

Nah, that’s BS. Cooper was tactically out of his depth. I’m baffled how long standing fans can’t see that. Mind blowing.

If we go down this season, will people say Nuno was tactically out of his depth?

In football, there's always something that the last manager might not have had to deal with which probably makes it unfair to compare.

Pearce endured injuries to key players in one swipe which ripped the spine of his team up. Freedman had the embargo to deal with, only being able to bring in free transfers and loans. Davies had his paranoia. They all had Fawaz's naiveity and childlike ways to deal with.

Cooper was bottom of the Championship when he took over. When he got promoted he had all those players thrown at him in one go in a league he and most of the players were not accustomed to. Nuno will probably have a points deduction as well as some questionable transfers thrown on him. He didn't have a pre-season with the club......

Nuno needs to add some defensive structure, if the requirement is to just go out and score 2 goals every game but always risk conceding more i'm sure Cooper could have equally dropped his guard and put out a side to similar effect

We're currently a neutrals dream because every game will bring goals, nobody can deny it's entertaining but for it to prove effective long term we'll need to get a strong defensive unit together or we'll constantly be at risk of leaking more goals than we can score

The higher risk exploitative approach feels refreshing and is understandably welcomed after the pragmatic approach we were used to under Cooper, but even though this style of play is entertaining it doesn't guarantee any more points over 12 games if we can't organize our defence. Hopefully Nuno can find a solid balance and we don't risk becoming a Burnley who are capable of playing nice football but too often come away with nothing due to poor defensive mistakes

Part of me thinks it's down to an expectation that we'll get f*cked by FFP and we're going for wins regardless.

I agree with you: we need to find a balance. But I guess we're all (including Nuno) discovering our best defensive makeup game by game.

Tbf, after the win against (an albeit toothless) Palace, I thought he had it sussed,

Edit: F*cking 2nd tier London clubs all look the same to me! West Ham, obvs.

Statistics wise our defense isn’t that bad apart from today. Niakhate was partially responsible but jeezy peeps man I never seen Murillo look so f***ing horrible! We have defensive structure, our expected-“whatever’s” show that we do but with a mixture of Nuno being out and Villa just being damn good we saw what could happen if things don’t go are way. And I understand why he’d start Niahkate for set pieces, but I think he trusted the players a little too much lol.

Realistically this is an excellent Villa side however which way you put it and us losing to them in the fashion we did was expected, atleast to me anyway. None of the defenders except Nico come away from glory, it might be one of the worst performances I’ve seen for Murillo Felipe Niakhate and Oma.

I think we all need to collectively breathe and realize results like this is part and parcel of being a bottom 5 or so premier league team.

Honestly, I think we’ll narrowly beat United on Wednesday and lose in a similar fashion to Liverpool on the weekend, which wouldn’t be that bad.

We were going down under Cooper without a points deduction. So yes Nuno is better, there is no need for a poll
I’m pretty sure the question was asked in jest - but when I see people only taking into account Coopers last few games, and pretty much discounting the previous two years, to reach the conclusion Nuno is the better manager, I can’t help myself.

We were gash yesterday and tbh I was expecting a greater improvement than what I have seen so far.

None the less I’m fully behind Nuno and let’s see where the next couple of seasons take us….

It's funny how folk will argue to the nth degree on who's the better manager when both are struggling for the same reasons: individual mistakes and poor referee decisions.

If anyone at the club can sort either of those two things out for us we'll be absolutely fine this season.
