January 2024 Transfer Window

Quality forward/winger and a good left back. We need at least one winger IMO.

Toffolo has done pretty decent job since coming in but long-term we need quality in that position so either in January or the summer something permanent needs sorting.

You'd be 'happy' with 5 more signings in January despite us having brought in 3,674 players in the last 18 months?

I'd say the only thing we absolutely need is a forward.

Outside of that, I'd be looking at only bringing in players who considerably improve our starting XI and/or have tonnes of potential. And I don't even really worry about positions there, it's about getting the best talent we can.
Would it make you ‘happy’ though?

In the squad thread I had us down for two strikers (one ready, one young), a first choice left back, a first choice centre back, a keeper (unclear on need there ATM) d a winger over the next two windows to hit a squad of 25 next year (without any outgoings and with our current u21's getting older).

My suggested 25 - take your pick on who stays in the 'or' rows...

Vlachodimos
NEW KEEPER
Turner

Ola Aina
Aurier or Montiel or Williams
Tavares or Toffolo (or Richards?)
NEW LB (1st choice)

Boly or Felipe (extend)
Murrilo
Omabamadele
Niakhaté
Worrall
NEW CB (Nino?)

Domínguez
Mangala
Sangaré
Yates
Danilo

Gibbs-White
Hudson-Odoi
Elanga
NEW WINGER

Awoniyi
Wood
NEW STRIKER - 1st choice
NEW STRIKER - U21

(Obviously you can add as many U21 as you like to that lot)

Think this one will be more about trimming the squad more than anything else. Maybe a short term loan or two to cover AFCON/ injuries if we need it, or maybe a deal if someone interesting becomes available for a decent price. But in terms of incomings, I can see it probably being a quiet one for a change.
We desperately need strikers though. At least 2 wingers and a CAM.

I still have a sneaking suspicion that Konate might nab a squad place. He’s looking sweet every time I see him (albeit against gash opposition).

As long as they’re European or South American - and not African - I’m not particularly fussed..

( relates of course to Afcon - for the avoidance of any doubt 🤦‍♂️ )

I know this won't go down well, but I read Villarreal are looking to loan out Brereton this January - wouldn't be a bad option if we can't land primary targets.

Played in 12 games for the Villareal, but i don't know how many starts that includes or how many minutes played, but as yet he hasn't scored for them.

We've properly moved on from him I'm afraid. Signing him on loan would be so underwhelming.

While I dont disagree with the latter, I can't help but think how hard it is to bring quality in during that window, especially up top. Fear those hoping for a Guirassy (or similar) will be disappointed.

Id rather not bother than bring Brereton back of there's no other options.

He's not going to start for us so rather give bench opportunities to Dale Taylor if we're that desperate.
