I've often wondered why the huge Eastside area hasn't already been built built on, how long has it been derelict now?
I think part of it has been that the site is so big - so people have wanted to masterplan it rather than build piecemeal. Whereas if it had been hived off into a series of smaller plots, it probably would have been done by now.

There's been several masterplans over the years, which didn't go anywhere. The latest version aka "The Island Quarter" has been the only one to make any real impact with some buildings already open and others underway. Hopefully now that the ball is rolling, the rest of it can be finished and especially that falling down warehouse can be sorted out.

Yeah expect more luxury flats.

It's a real shame that Forest getting into the PL didn't coincide with that time 10 years ago of "we don't know what to do with this land"

Feels like we were 5 years late or so, opportunity would have been there for Forest to demonstrate a real vision but now it's starting to lack the space given building work on flats has begun.

Ive been going to watch Forest for 36 years now. No way do I want to be stuck in some fancy Dan poxy football stand with hot running water, soap and paper towels.
Exactly.

Next thing, you’ll see there’ll be one of those blokes hanging around outside the bogs offering you a squirt of hand sanitizer and wanting a quid for the privilege.

Council confirm that pretty much any asset they own is potentially available for sale.

Wonder what it'd take to get the freehold for the Trentside site, most importantly including the land the various boathouses are on so that we can apply a bit more pressure as landlords. Have to assume it'd be a fairly substantial sum but not out of the question.

Demolishing the building is not the issue; it's the fact that all the boathouses have been recorded as an ACV which then falls under the Localism Act. The Act (along with NPPF and local planning policies) requires a suitable replacement to be found before any demolition can take place, irrespective of who owns the freehold.

Hello you Red Dogs. I want to add some comments on the stadium development / relocation.
The site discussed for a new build was Eastcroft, not Eastside. It was discussed. The latter is underway now, the former is exactly as it was ten years ago, and is owned by the city council. To be clear it's bounded by the railway to the north, the Eastcroft icinerator to the east, London road to the west, and Cattle Market Road to the south. The site is much bigger than the WFCG footprint.
Before we get into the 'no place like home' debates, let's consider a few things.
The WFCG has many positives and some negatives, the major one being access and egress. The idea of expanding the PT stand poses problems since the sheer volume of pedestrian traffic on Pavilion Rd and the narrow pavements at the Radcliffe Rd corner is something that needs attention. Similar pinch points are on Trentside North and the back of Colwick Rd both of which are simply awful.
There's also been comment about NIMBYS. Well, people in Lady Bay and other parts of WB have had issues with carers for elderly people jotting able to get there on a match day, let along emergency services. Some residents of the area are Red Dogs, others are not but are reasonable, some have legitimate concerns.
Now, can the WFCG be brought up to standard i.e. I am not queuing on the concourse outside the women's toilets ten minutes after full-time with my legs tightly crossed. Certainly the are improvements to be made, and I do wonder why there is so little progress to date. Expanding the BC Upper concourse is an obvious example.
I think that another issue with the current stadium is access to the pitch. We have had two serious incidents in recent seasons (Leicester FA Cup and Sheffield Its in the play-offs). Making access to the pitch more difficult is arguably doable but would reduce capacity.
I absolutely get the magic of a winter evening with the mist rolling in, lights reflecting off the water and so on. If I were Marinakis and looking way into the future I would ponder whether it would be better to utilise Eastcroft (railway station, trams, dozens of bus stops all with 5 minutes walk). Local residents objections to worry about? Not a problem there.
Radical viewpoint alert. Not all new builds are the same, so why not recreate the WFCG elsewhere? Bigger concourses, larger stands, pedestrian circulation all the way around (not possible at the WFCG unless several properties can be purchased). From the TV gantry, it would look pretty much the same. Marinakis might also factor in a cheaper build on the brownfield site, a two to three year job from commencement to completion, and meanwhile we play at the WFCG.
From a business perspective it makes sense. From the point of view of supported comfort it makes sense. City would benefit from a time-derelict site being used and regeneration would follow all round it. Radcliffe Rd shops would lose but there will always be winners and losers.
I don't know if any recent discussions have taken place, but when I'm standing doing my little dance waiting for a pee I think "bloody hope they have been looking at the option".

Some good ideas & points - although IF we were to move I'd hope for something slightly more innovative than a re-creation of the current stadium.

And I'm not sure where the term Red Dogs came from (I thought it was from rival supporters tbh) but I bloody hate it.

Forest, The Reds, Tricky Trees at a push.....but Red Dogs? Please no.

Can't we just build a new stadium here. It seems like the obvious option and we don't have to change the words to Mull of Kintyre.

It would be a good location if the stadium and access to it can be constructed on stilts, given that it's a floodplain. Also, the potential for opposition from the good folk of Lady Bay would make the task of overcoming the objections from the rowing fraternity seem like a cakewalk in comparison.

There's a whole heap of questions we'd need to know the answer to, to answer your question.
Who owns it, is the land suitable for foundations..etc...etc...

We’ll the nice green bit was the Forest training ground prior to the NDA

Infrastructure will be the biggest issue. Access to there currently is through Lady Bay.
Earlier in the thread I put a picture out of further down the river nearer Holme Pierrepont. Access could be taken from the island at the bottom of Lings Bar (where they were considering building a road bridge over the Trent from. In fact the pub in that island used to be called The Bridge at Gamston before changing to The Gamston Lock a few years ago)

Good post
However I don't want to move. I have been going to the WFCG since 1968 as a 7yr old kid and don't want to move anywhere.
I don't see the reason for the hold-up on the rowing club.
We can re-build that next year with the £5m we save on Arters wages - job done!
When we rebuild the PT stand - you won't need to queue 10 mins for the toilet either

The simple answer to me seems to be to build a new stadium on legs, that can walk around on its own power, like one of the Martian War Machines from The War of the Worlds.

That way, the stadium can relocate itself as needed to avoid floods, NIMBYs, traffic jams, and the Martian Heat Ray would make short work of the Boat Club too.

If I win the euromillions this week I'm buying town hall and market Square, building a very high voltage electric fence around it to keep all you disgusting peasants out, and pronouncing myself the king of Nottingham

Even though it's so near I don't think that will persuade the majority to leave the city ground so it might as well be 10 yards away or 10 miles away.

Well you can sit in an old abandon amphitheatre thinking about past times and I'll be sitting in a state of the art Allianz Arena style megastructure across the road in my free wellies that come with the season ticket.

Just build a bigger wall along the Trent and push the water further downstream, access wouldn't be much different from where we are now, people would still cross Trent bridge and walk down the river. We could build a bridge across the Trent to allow supporters easy access from the other side of the river. Offer the people of lady bay free wifi, using the current city ground technology.

Good luck with that 1
