It's only a fkin boat club, just shift it to another part of the river ffs only a daft sport for posh twats anyway
Unfortunately, posh twats who have the ear of prominent local politicians who have the responsibility to rule on such matters.

(Many of whom are also posh twats).

Just need to build them one of these then they can go and use any part of the river they want.

On a serious note I don't understand their insistence to not just move, what is the saying? A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush....

They may lose the offer they've had if they dig their heals in too much.

This is what’s odd about the whole saga. They have all the power. They should put a list of demands on the table and no doubt we’ll acquiesce to them. But as soon as we reapply for planning permission they potentially lose all that power.

We used to drive past a supermarket in New York and during the planning and construction, one householder refused to sell, so they just built the supermarket round the house. Quite a sight!

That was never a problem.

The M62 was designed like that. Everyone believes in thee myth that the farmer dug his heels in and refused to move.

But it's a David and goliath fantasy.

But probably more meaningful than you imagine.
Imagine how beautiful it was 100 years ago, farming that land.

My niece is a rowing coach for GB so I’ve had to be more aware of it than I’d usually care to be.

I can confirm however that it is absolutely a crap sport filled 80% by arseholes, especially when they walk their boats around above their heads. They’re not all posh, but definitely like the idea that they are.

What’s the broad timetable on the ground redevelopment? EM’s statement today reignites the drive to redevelop (although gives no extra details). Sounds like a more detailed statement on the WFCG might be imminent?

I don’t believe that for a second. Situation is that they own the building and don’t see why they should not continue to unless the offer is extremely attractive. We don’t want to become Liverpool forcing people out do we?

Believe it or not.

I know - vaguely - two people from that organisation, one of them lives in Rudd, and they are on more than friendly terms with RBC‘s planning inspectorate.

The local Borough Council does unfortunately have a bit of a reputation in planning matters, shall we say.

It’s all way to high profile for a borough councillor to be doing any more than huffing and puffing on a friends behalf. Those days of planning decisions are gone. It’s not being refused because the borough council are blocking it, it’s just not moving forward because we need another land owner (or long leaseholder, effectively the same thing) to freely agree to move. We don’t own the boat club and we need their land.

I think.

No, in that respect you’re right, the Boat Club, although not owning the land (as, of course, the club doesn’t, apart from a few little parcels) wants to extract as much value as possible from their current shed (effectively, getting somewhere built for them that is a significant upgrade, in terms of both location and facilities, at someone else’s expense - Forest‘s in this case, and fair enough for that).

It may be that if the impasse continues, one option (and it’s kind of the nuclear option) would be for the football club to push for the planning application to be called-in by the Secretary of State; under the previous Labour government, Brighton & Hove Albion had to follow a similar process to unblock progress on building their new stadium at Falmer, due to opposition from local NIMBYs.

I would guess that, since the original idea was mooted, our meteoric rise has caused a few ruffled brows at the club.

It was one thing planning for one circumstance, but totally another when those circumstances change so dramatically.

Wonder if that bloke who was complaining that he wasn't able to walk down Trentside on a matchday who spoke up at the planning meeting is still moaning?

That Nottingham Forest should purchase the former Brittania Boat Club from its owners the Nottingham Rowing Club goes without saying. The Nottingham Rowing Club obviously don't see it as premises for their activities and have allowed it to fall into disrepair. Why therefore should RBC have made it a condition of the planning consent that Nottingham Forest replace it. The whole thing does not sit well with me I'm afraid.

Yes, why not just pay them the Earth for it? Would be quicker and probably cheaper in the long run than going to the secretary of state (Lucy Frazer?). It is only used as storage now, or so I am led to believe (think I read that on this forum?)

There were rushcliffe councillors who rejected the new stand proposal over a 200k payment by forest not being made were there not? Worrying that a council is run by people who can’t see a big picture and long term benefits to an area
