And who could blame him? Much bigger club, play in a massive state-of-the-art stadium every other week rather than a stadium that is smaller than some League One and League Two grounds, a much higher ceiling as a club, etc.

Never thought he'd go to Brentford anyway, but what little chance they did have died as soon as the likes of Spurs and Chelsea's names entered the mix.

If I were BJ then a Spurs move looks good as Ange has them playing some lovely stuff, Brentford are hopefully only a season or so ahead of us in our transformation into a top half/european team so unless they were offering gob-smacking personal terms I wouldn't bother.

I can’t believe spurs are willing to pay 50 odd million for someone who barely gets on their bench but i’ve clearly been totally wrong about how bonkers the money is in football these days. I think it would be irresponsible to turn down 50 mil - he won’t make it at a top 6 team imo. I thought spence was a world beater and didn’t even get a look in

Let me guess - two years ago you'd have exactly the same thing if someone had offered 15m for him, right? How good do you think he'll be two years from now?

Not that crazy, really.

But yes, right now, Brennan is better.

The asymmetric nature of this is interesting. Brentford have offered us the choice of Brennan or 43m. If he was at Brentford now say, we would never consider paying 43million for him. But we aren't going to sell him for that either.

Interesting point actually. I love Brennan but if a similar player was at Brentford that kind of outlay would concern me a bit. Very risky for us as a club, or indeed Brentford.
