Pre match

Nothing more dangerous than an injured lion and Reuben and the boys will be hurting right now. Unfortunate in the last 3 games so they’ll be well up for this one.

We are heading into this game with Forest, Everton and Leeds imploding. Leeds away at City so if we can beat Forest we will be only 3 points off safety. we are due a win so I fancy is to get one here and it’s back on. our unstoppable run to safety starts here. COYR!

I remember we got relegated at Forest in 2009 , can we be officially down again next week?

Not officially, but if we lose we could only get to 33 points, of which Forest would be on if they beat us. As close to official as you can get without it being official.

That was the last game of the season, we were relegated before that. I was there, we were 1-0 up with 15 minutes left, then brought on Lancashire and lost 3-1. We all joined in the singing with the Forest fans, everyone was just sick of our football by then.

Please, please, please Saints, if you only win one more game this season, make it this one. At least give me something I can use against all the Forest fans up here. Bright side with relegation ist that there are many more teams in the lower divisions in the Midlands I can get to. Oh, I said bright side, I forgot that this is Saints we're talking about here. Never forget seeing us lose to Notts County in the Redflapp years. So awful! Please, just beat Forest!

f we beat Forest, Dyche picks himself for Everton, Leeds decide to play Rugby League instead, Leicester recall Lineker, Jupiter aligns with Saturn, and King Cnut turns back the waves, we could just survive.

What about Uranus?

His anus could probably shit out a better teamsheet, formation and tactics than Selles.

Interestingly or uninterestingly, "selles" in French means feces.

I think we convincingly beat Forest, they sack Cooper. We then employ Cooper who takes us down without another goal or point. #saintsy

On a clear day you can see Uranus, but not where our next win is coming from!

Got offered a free ticket, still can’t bring myself to go. Club doesn’t deserve our support atm. Bring on next season and the new start

It's only massive for Forest.

We are shite

Forest are f***ing shit, Fulham are on the beach, Brighton will bottle Europe against us and Klopp's Liverpool will defensively implode on the last day. We've got survival in the bag.

What an opportunity this is for Forest by the way, they couldn't have picked a better fixture at this stage of the season if they tried. Fighting for survival against a team that checked out of football in December and will finish 20th. Bit of a nightmare for Leicester/Leeds/Everton that this fixture is happening tbh.

How injured are we? A sore paw or shot by several tranquillisers and barely in a state of consciousness?

Note to self: stay strong, don’t go to Forest, do not weaken, do not become delusional and think the great escape starts here. Stay home, do the garden, watch Heartbeat on BritBox, get an early night.

Hi all! I just moved permanently to Southampton from Australia, so a new Saints supporter

i'd go back if I were you....or support Man City

With decision making like this, you’d probably be in with a good shout of running the club. At least you can swim in the ‘sea’ without the risk of a shark attack, I suppose. Just oil and sewage you need to worry about down here.

The only thing we have in our favour is this a pressure tie for Forest, whereas it isn't really for us anymore.

If you are fighting to stay up this is a three point banker, every Forest fan knows it. 3 points on a silver platter. Right there lads. Just take them.

If the roles were reversed there would be plenty on here convinced we would choke a home game against the worst team in the league. "Typical us" etc etc etc.
That's all I got.

They will be so fired up for this we will be swept away unfortunately

Why call this a massive game? Brentford at home was where any hope of staying up had to start and losing that plus losing at West Ham, losing at home to Palace , losing at home to Bournemouth, etc means the club has been relegated for several weeks. Anyone who thinks a win at Forest will save us is deluded.......

Two good things about this game:-

It's on Monday night, so can't ruin the whole effin' weekend
The other two of the bottom 3 will have already played, and hopefully have lost, which will give Selles the added incentive to keep it tight, play without a striker, go a goal or two down, bring on either defensive minded players or completely ineffective players, and not lose by too heavy a margin, while most importantly sticking to his principles whilst we meekly surrender.

Massive game for Forest, not for us. Win and we are still down. The ship has long since sailed. Let's get ready for a promotion push and winning some games next season.
Forest away on a BH evening with the likelihood it’ll be the game that could relegate us…..what’s not to like!!

Gosh with all the negativity in this thread I am starting to think we might be in serious danger of relegation.

Massive game for Forest. Us, not so much.

I would describe this match for us as miniscule and utterly without consequence.

Looking forward to it though as I predict Forest will shit the bed and relegate themselves.

Unlike us, Forest fans will be still believing they can stay up, I think the support they’ll get Monday night will be loud and intense. Our gutless wonders will likely just melt. We’ll have just shy of 3,000 up there (around 100 tickets left) but I don’t think they’ll make much of a dent on the atmosphere unfortunately watching another lacklustre performance from us.

I want Forrest to win to help send Everton down

Along with the coronation another event to miss.

For Forest it’s as big as they come.

Selles says defeat at Forest would make survival difficult.

It’s amazing how much he’s learnt in such a short time

Our passion vs Forest's passion. It's curtains before the whistle is even blown.

(Note from Zoe.....In/post match will be added in comments below later, had a busy morning at work so will do late afternoon ish)

Tough lines for Soton fans. They've had a decent stint in this league and I'm sure they'll go again next season, they've got the bones of a decent squad and whilst they'll lose a couple they'll pull big money for them (JWP/Lavia etc). Probably be back in the PL in 13 months time.

Jesus Christ we're lucky we have Cooper.
This is 'If we'd scored a goal it would have been a draw' level frustrating.
You have to feel for the saints fans, their board have done them dirty this year with their awful decision making.
I very much got the tongue in cheek vibes from that post, they really don't like him and think he's a bit thick to put it bluntly

In game (75% of comments were slagging Che Adams and Maitland Niles off)

Che has to score there

The title of our season's "highlights" DVD.

usually around 15 or 20 min point we just run out of oooomph, right?

didn;t know our oooomph had been delivered for us to run out of it.

Good luck to Forest. We deserve to finish bottom

One shot. One goal.

Our football goes nowhere. Why do they even bother? Has there ever been a team that’s shown as little fight to stay up as this lot?

Forest are awful and there for the taking.

right on cue, our ooomph has gone lol

I’ve been watching for five minutes.

In those five minutes:
- they’ve said how well Saints have played and controlled the game.
- noticed Che Adams has lead feet as he can’t make simple passes.
- McCarthy once again proves he’s just as crap as the rest of our keepers.

Then Forest go up and score with their first attack like a knife through butter.

first goal since January, oh, also against us

Hahahahaha and another one.

Is tonight the annual 9-0 bumming?

At this point, it wouldn't suprise me

We’re gonna win 3-2

2-1… the escapes back on!

We look horrendous when they attack on
the break

waiting for alcaraz to snap yates

Yates has been digging at him all game, you watch first time Alcaraz has a go he'll get booked.

Penalty FFS.

Adams disapointed there, from his place nesteld firmly in the defender's pocket. >sigh
Ryan Yates is a bit of a cock isn’t he.

Then again if he was in our team it would be great.

Game over and all but mathematically relegated

need lots more gin.

And more nuns.

And Croatian birds.

And more gin.

3-1 down at HT against a really poor team like Forest.

We are all over the place, no leadership, no style, no ideas.

Look around at the players, all on edge, half of them can't be arsed.

Most of them just don't care.

Commentator: “Southampton cannot believe this score line”

Errr, yes we can. It’s entirely predictable.

McCarthy is such a turd of a keeper, might as well replace him with a traffic cone.

We are so utterly shit and deserving of relegation. Forest are content letting us have the ball knowing full well that we'll mess something up and gift them the game.

Ive never disliked a saints side more.

On the bright side…

… just 20 days until the season is over.

Saints could make some dosh here and do some kind of countdown advent calendar. Every day could have an image of Che Adams missing an open goal or something.

Maitland-Niles moves in slow motion.

And that's at full speed

expected shit, but somehow this is worse than that.

Getting ripped apart by the second worst team in the league. This saints team is full of wasters

Completely overwhelmed by Nottingham Forest. Over and out.

have to say this relegation has been very well earned. Everyone from the boardroom, to the management and the players on the pitch have made it happen. No shirkers here, they've all put in a shift.

Can't think of a team thats deserved it more for a long time. Whevenever there's been a glimpse of survival they've done what's necessary to keep that relegation a formality.

Roll on league one. Can't see anything about the club not making that a reality in a years' time.

Forest know they can just give possession to Saints and let them fanny around with it. All they have to do is wait for the chance to break quickly and they'll get a shot at goal.
Are we going to break the record for the lowest amount of premier League points at the end of a season?

No, Derby still hold that with 11.

No, Derby managed 11. Five teams have accrued less than 24.

Would Fancy Coventry to take that, if they some how come up

Does that mean we are over twice as good as derby?

Two away goals and we’re still losing.

Forest faking an injury to get themselves off the ropes.

All forest again!

Come on, if we can equalise, I think they might crumble.

Definitely over now

A defence like soggy toilet paper.

Hate to say it but that goal was superb.
Everything Saints aren’t.

t’s a real pity for the Southampton hordes behind the goal, who have made an excellent account of themselves.

Class finish

Thrashed by one of the poorest teams in the division.

Any team that loses to Forest both home and away deserves to go down.

We are so shit that it's actually a relief to know that all hope is gone now

Players have given up. Making Forest look like Brazil.

5 .... they can't even give us some self respect

Are we even on the field? Are we holograms? Wtf

Saved by VAR

Penalty.

Cause it'll make a difference.

And I don't think it was one, anyway...

4-3, game on again

Post match

Outclassed by Forest. You know things are bad when you look at Forest team and think, mmm wouldn’t mind that guy in our team…he’s better than what we have.

Away end applauding the players. Piss off.

That's how you do a 'must win' game. Forest I mean.

Well, good luck to Forest. I hope they stay up at the expense of Everton.

So that's that then Being a competitive team in the championship is a far better season for a fan than being completely out of depth in premier league. When going to matches feels like a chore what’s the point

Hopefully Everton come down with us.

A team picked up at the Transfer Warehouse Wholesalers deservedly beat us home and away this season. We were horrendous in the first, and caved in lots of areas for this one too.

Forest won most of the physical battles, and had more flair and pace in Johnson and Gibbs-White than we had in our entire team. they spent £190m to buy in two squads of players. We spend £140m to enhance the one we had and got it badly wrong in a number of key areas.

Forest are a poor side, we gifted them goals and didn't match their fight or desire

GIbbs-White said their plan was to press. But because we were retaining posession early on, they looked to just sit back a little, and then catch us on the break. Sure enough, we had a little flurry of looking like we could attack, but it was really Forest just dropiing back, to be a little more compact, while biding their time. We over extend and get done. Simple and we got suckered., even though we would surely know about the pace of the likes of Johnson. It's seeing how naive we are

’m not sure we are going to stay up, it’s looking a bit dicy now

We were by far the better team today. We gifted them that win with dreadful defending.

We were absolutely not by far the better team, although it is true that Forest were pretty poor.

We just gifted them chances over and over.

I was there last night. I thought the home fans were excellent - as a Forest player it must be uplifting to run out to that wall of scarves and noise.

Maybe Dragan & co. could leave us all a scarf on a seat for the first game of next season to try something similar to Forest. Light shows and those fire things are all well and good for US-style entertainment but what we need to generate is a proper atmosphere to let the opposition know they're at our place. That's what we need to bring home next season and find a way to energise our fans before kick-off in the same way Forest do. I hope they stay up, their fans deserve it.

Forest fans were fantastic last night. We wouldn't create an atmosphere like that if we won the Champions League, and that's not a slight on our support, it's just not 'us'.

........................

This has been my least favourite fan comments thread of the season. The resignation and glum atmosphere shone out of almost every post from pre match all the way through. It almost felt like intruding on the funeral of a stranger, gatecrashing the grief

Had to laugh when they said they were ‘waiting for Alcaraz to snap Yates’. I’m still waiting for that! First half Yates brushed pasted him to get into space for a throwing and Alcaraz went down clutching every body part. He had to get up looking absolutely pathetic as everyone had ignored him.

I'm relieved that we are still dross and an awful team.
Somewhat disappointed that Southampton fans don't see us as the worst team in the league, I supposed they would be biased in wanting that accolade for themselves.
