You don't need to hold back for us
In all honesty you cut and paste those comments for what was said about Ryan Yates, Joe Worrall, Awoniyi, Scott Mckenna, Lodi, Brennan, Wood etc etc.

This going in on our players is frankly crackers in any event, I do get it because we were garbage but at the same time we've watched far far far worse players pull on the strip in recent years and not been so critical.

Just give him (and the others) a f***ing break is all I would ask, the pile on is starting to look toxic.

I do think the situation with Neco is coachable.

He is reasonably fit, mobile, has a decent engine, can tackle well, can kick a ball well, but underpinning all of it has terrible decision making.

Most of the time he simply doesn't seem like he knows what to do. When he gets on a forward run his cross or attempt on goal simply doesn't seem to match what everyone around him is doing.

When he's defending he doesn't either tackle his opponent or stand his ground and make it difficult. He usually just backs off the winger about 5-10 yards away and lets them push forward.

Gnonto did it too, but there was several occasions where he just let Benrahma advance on him which led to chances. On one of them Worrall had to come out from CB to cover the winger because Neco was miles off and then that left us short of cover in the middle because our CMs are all midgets when Yates isn't there.

The coaching staff need to be sitting down with him and showing him how a top PL RB or LB close down against a tricky winger because every time we get roasted by one it's on his side. Other managers are clearly now going to be aware of this and will exploit it when he plays until the weakness is fixed.

He has the attributes physically to make it work but it just looks like he doesn't know how to defend which I guess is worrying but is also not particularly surprising as he's not played too many matches for Liverpool and was only on loan the half season to Fulham. But he is too inexperienced to be in this situation and be doing a good job. Brennan is the same age but played 2 full seasons in L1 and CH for Lincoln and us before this season. Spence played a full season for us and had plenty of apps for Boro (and actually, I don't think Spence is that good a defender either). If we stay up I think even if we get Aurier we need another RB and can then loan Neco out so he can get experience.
But does he have the most vital characteristic: a willing to learn football brain.

See: Burke, Oliver.
I'm not quite sure I'd make the same comparison about his football intelligence Chris. The reaction to becoming a millionaire overnight as a teenager was always going to present a challenge for Burke. I think losing the focus to progress as far as he possibly could was a potential inevitability for him having seen how his desire sometimes had to be questioned by his coaches during academy matches, in total contrast to one of his (arguably less-talented) peers, Ryan Yates.

Like Burke, Neco is also a very wealthy young man, but he does have the desire and, importantly, still has youth on his side to be coached into making better decisions.

TBF I said at Premier League level and thats where we are and if we want to stay here our players will be subject to. I think Williams would be fine in the championship like Chris Gunter was.

I'd argue that he more-than-proved himself in the Championship last season, and fully deserved the opportunity to step-up with us. That's not denying that it's been a difficult challenge for him at times.

He only played 14 times in the league for Fulham last season so he wasn’t even first choice for them.

I can’t believe we thought someone with that little experience would be our first choice full back all season.

If we didn’t start buying experience like Aurier we would be as good as done for already.

Yep, the plan was clearly Williams as first choice backed up by Biancone. It was only when one or both were deemed unfit for purpose that we went out and brought in some actual quality. No wonder there was a change of approach really.

Now if only Giraldi was here last summer to ensure we had the experience required from day one.

Fingers crossed we stay up and bring some more real quality into the side and kick right on.

He was first choice, he joined January & played every game he was fit for

I'm in a clear minority here but thought he handled Benrahma pretty well yesterday.
I'm with you mate, but sadly he appears to be the scape goat for many on this site despite him being about the only player we had yesterday with a pro active, forward thinking approach (as I think the stats show).

He's not PL ready, Aurier is better, but he didn't let anyone down yesterday (again) - I'm struggling to think of anyone who you could say had a better game in yellow.

Ultimately it doesn't matter what people think on here, so long as the mood doesn't translate to the stadium next Sunday

Disagree with your comment that he can kick a ball well. How many times does he shoot for goal and completely fail to generate any power.

That's his decision making though. Technically he can but he chooses the wrong option...

It is puzzling, maybe when he works out that the Rubicks Cube that Scarpa gave him isn't food and with time those gnawed edges will become a completed Rubicks cube and with some careful coaching he will end up been the finished article.

Just watched the highlights (?!?) again and so often it's his poor positioning, slow response or lack of physicality that compromises the whole defensive shape and organisation. Liability.

Williams needs some slack cutting - just remember who it was flattened that twat Richarlison when he was showboating at ours....

There's definitely talent there, whether he can be coached to a level where he can be relied upon to start games in the Premier League is another matter

I don't personally believe him to be the liability some people think he is though
This is exactly what I'm saying.

He has the tools at his disposal to be a top player but tactically and decision wise he's miles off.

Whether this is just down to inexperience or quite simply the lad isn't very bright is a different matter and how much he can be coached out of the weakness depends on this.

I think the comparison with Ollie Burke is telling
