Somewhat controversially distance has given me a different perspective over the past few days... at the very mention that Coops was under threat I initially had quite an emotional response of NO WAY.... however having pondered it I've now come more to the position that there's little room for sentiment in football.

Coops has to prove he's up to the task and at the moment I fear he's been found wanting... admittedly injury has possibly not helped to the likes of Mangala and Niakhate but team selection, set-up and if I'm honest general preparedness for the PL has been suspect and its a case of adapt, and adapt quickly, or die. I'm not saying I want him to go, of course not, he's brought us the impossible, something we've could hardly dream of over the past 23 years. However in this day and age you are only as good as your league position and unless this changes fast I can see the big man thinking along the same kind of lines and if he brought in a manager who can get us up the league then we'd be idiots not to consider it.

I recognise that's a very big IF and that ideally we would give the man time and maybe even go down to come back up - but we don't live in that world and we don't have that kind of owner. So while I'm backing SC to turn this all around if it happened I'd be sad but the club is the most important thing.

It would be suicidal to sack Cooper . Would put the club back 23yrs.

Anyone even thinking about sacking Cooper needs a serious head wobble!

The power of sentiment in football is actually absolutely huge.
Why do you think all the English teams dropped out of the Superleague?

Ultimately, we don't really have much of a clue what's going on behind the scenes, whether SC is being backed or backed into a corner...

I learned after the SoD sacking, someone who's ethos I really bought into and could see clear progress under, that what I and all the rest of us think, matters for nothing; It's all about how itchy the trigger finger is from above.

I'll reiterate that I think SC has earned the right to be given time to develop this set of players, which is no mean feat given how many fresh faces are in (I fear there's a double edged sword there though, since given they don't yet feel like a Cooper squad, those above may feel it's therefore easier to replace him now).

But yes, sentiment aside, I still supported the club after the SoD thing and would obviously continue to do so whenever SC goes - I genuinely hope that isn't any time soon though and feel he has the wherewithal to pull it together, as well as the squad as it happens, provided we can get everyone fit.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion. Relegation wouldn't be a disaster. We would still have a half decent squad and parachute payments. We'll be in a decent position.

Do I want Cooper sacked? No. But it really won't be the end of the world. He has to show he can adapt quickly.

I'd go the other way. The distance has reaffirmed my belief in Cooper after being really disappointed with the collapses against Fulham and Bournemouth in what I thought were tactical disasters.

We still might go down but as a club we're in a better shape than we have been for pretty much all my life now. He turned around a sinking ship last year getting the best out of a fairly average squad and delivered a completely unexpected promotion giving everyone here a side we could be proud of.

Loyalty is earned, and he earned it in spades. Reassess in 2024 for me.

Not like Swansea have gone up a level since he left is it? Evidence seems to be his team's are more than the sums of their parts.

Relegation would be a disaster WITHOUT Cooper that’s the point i’m making.
I have no problem with relegation with Cooper in charge next season.

Marinakis language going into the season was pretty clear. Coopers been given 150million to be "competitive" in this league, not to be relegated. We should probably stop imagining a scenario where Cooper takes us down & keeps his job.

We're a much bigger draw as a Premier league, particularly one thats still very much in the hunt to remain there. My guess is the contract situation reflects the feelings of both manager & owner on where we are. If things dont improve, rightly or wrongly I dont see this partnership continuing.

With all that said, having listened to Steve Cooper intently, he's a guy who has all the bases covered & more, attention to detail unquestionnable. If theres a way, I think only he can find it.

Id stick unconditionally, but then its not my money & status on the line.

As an aside I was surprised to see his successor at Swansea being talked about for the Bournemouth job - looks to me like they've gone backwards since cooper left?

You can look at this in two ways, I suppose.

Either you think Coops did brilliantly last season with the team ethic and tactics, so give him time to instil that in new players. Or you can say last season's team has gone, we have new players who are more experienced and senior who will respond to a different kind of leadership, of which Coops has no experience.

But beyond all the reasoned argument, there are results, which are black and white, no argument. You either win or you don't, and EM likes winners.

Russell Martin is all fart, no shit.

He’s cultivated a reputation as a progressive manager becauhe insists on his defenders and keeper passing it around their own penalty box a hundred million times, but the fact is, he had MK scrabbling around near the lower mid-table (they immediately looked a top 6 side under his successor) and his Swansea team are performing worse than under Cooper.

I was praying Bournemouth would hire him. I still am.

All we’d need would be a manager who has a 100% record of getting teams in the playoffs and we’d be golden.

Where could we get one of those from, I wonder………

But if we go down without a fight then he'll not be here (and rightly so). The argument that he deserves the whole season only stands if we show improvement. We have to show improvement. That's what we need for now. Oh, and a point or two.

It's all about mid-table...
I don't think the new players are much kop tbh. Loads a dosh but yet to see any substance.

But I'm positive Coops can make them competitive.

It could also be said you could stop interpreting what he said in broken English to Colin Frey in the euphoria of the play-off final.
