Looking at the Youth Team, one thing I've noticed is that both Harbottle and Swan are now old enough that they no longer count as U21s this season - so either they need to be registered in the 25 man squad (if we're keeping them for cover), loaned out (if we want them to get senior football), or they'll be consigned to only playing U23 matches (which at this point isn't ideal).

Yeah I think the whole Academy strategy is an interesting area. For so long we’ve been aiming to produce young players to feed a successful championship club (cos we had to). We’ve been moving in the right direction with the Cat 1 upgrade but does promotion change things a bit? Do the targets for youth players change now? Is the next generation ready?

The only thing with that is that it doesn't leave much room for next season where some of the four under 21s will need to be registered.

Colback, Cafu and Cook may well leave by then but that implies that the existing under 21s will be able to replace them (Mbe Soh for Cook and Mighten for Colback or Cafu would work) - Johnson and Williams being definites.

It's starting to get a bit tight i'd say, especially if Scarpa comes in as rumoured.

So your 20 becomes 24 next season minus Cook/Colback/Cafu, back down to 21. Scarpa 22.

Leaves maximum three for this season maybe rather than at least 4.

All depends on who's in the frame next year I guess.

Still room for five more transfers, six if Lyle Taylor is shipped out (hands off Cafú, you greedy monsters). If I understand correctly from the various BUPA topics, you're looking for yet another midfielder, apparently, which is a bit odd, and probably for a striker and / or winger. I don't see any obvious gaps, nor players who need to be shipped out, apart from Taylor. At some point you need to stop bying players.

I would imagine though that Taylor, Cafu and possibly one other may still go out on loan/permanent.

If I'm counting righ, you need to leave one of your current players (not counting Arter obviously) out of your squad of 25. Are you allowed to loan out / sell players abroad now that the window is shut down?

Yes, we can sell or loan players to Greece, Turkey, Belgium, Australia etc until their windows shut.

I also wouldn't rule out that the possibility that something happened yesterday (maybe a contract termination) that we're yet to hear about.

Ah, interesting. Why not Taylor or Cafu? Just because Oly have no vacancies for those types of players? Or are they just not good enough for Oly?

I'm surprised no-one has taken Cafu on loan. You'd think most Championship clubs could do with a solid performer like him. Taylor might be on too big a salary given his last season to be of much interest to other clubs.

Registered - today, the club have probably already done it (maybe with a spot free for Aurier if that's not complete yet)

The league usually takes a few days to put them on their web site though.

Do Mbe Soh and Williams definitely class as U21 as they're not from our academy? I thought that was the case but may just be for European competition where UEFA put a distinction between the two?
