Serving on board HMS Iron Duke the Chinese laundryman was a bloke called But Fu King (Mr But). His official title was Number 1. Number 2 was a Chinese bloke whose name was Michael. These Chinese civilians were usually from Honky Fid. On deployments ships would often carry a Chinese tailor, known as Sew-Sew. In days gone by, before my time in the Andrew, ships would also carry a cobbler, known as Tap-Tap.

As an aside, eight Chinese civilians lost their lives serving with the RN/RFA during the Falklands War.

Those Tottenham players will all be on insane wages and won't want to be seen to be stepping down, likely accepting more glamourous moves to Spain or Italy.

I would say winks would be the only realistic one of the lot with regards to a permanent transfer and even a loan is a stretch for the others, though not impossible.

Best we can hope for I think with any of those would be loans with obligation to buy. In that case Lo Celso really only one I would take that on for.

As a side story, interesting that the Spence transfer hasn't been sorted in time for the SK tour. I'd have thought Spurs would've really wanted him on that tour.
Can't quite work out what is holding that deal up so much. You'd have thought buying a Championship full back would've been one of the easier deals to complete for them this summer.

Especially one desperate to leave the club, desperate to join the buying club, at the selling club he’s surplus and they need the cash to revamp their squad.

This is Levy we're talking about, I don't think any deal he's involved in is straight forward. Spurs bid is most likely a few million short of what Boro were hoping they'd get for him so they're hesitant to accept it. The problem for them is it looks like there's not many (if any) other teams competing for his signature so they don't really have much choice

Levy probably already feels like he's overpaying at £13m for a championship fullback on the back of one good season

Those spurs players will all be on silly wages too, which likely puts us out of the picture. I know we pushed the boat out for hendo, which clearly was a good decision all round, but not sure we’ll be doing it again. Maybe for the #10 if MGW doesn’t happen?

Is there any free centre mids on this list would anyone consider for a backup option?

That Shopf would be a decent backup option. We need depth and some starters now at cm and amc
grillitsch in CDM would be a good signing, although Fiorientina pulled out of a deal because of his dad/agents ridiculous demands, so maybe not

It's all about mid-table...

It really has spoilt the game completely.

When will these grossly crass salaries end? Wish it was today.

We just need some bodies in id say we need 2 centre mids and 2 attacking mids at this stage.

Depending on how you view Yates is whether one or 2 of the centre mids needed are starters. I’d say Yates is a bench player in the prem so will need 2 starters probs.

Not a chance in a million Yates be bench Emmz.

He'll play every single game (barring serious injury ie: broken leg, neck or back) and be called up for England before the season is out.

You heard it here first.

It’s still early days. It’s not just about new players fitting into the right positions, we need to see how the player fits into the squad.

One of our successes last season was how our squad played together as a team irrespective of individual performances.

I expect Cooper and Murphy will also be considering personalities, attitudes, experience and those who will adapt well to the challenges we are going to face.

I think the loan with an obligation to buy might yet be used on Garner (I'd hope and think we should be optimistic about avoiding relegation relatively comfortably....depending on other players yet to sign I should add; but Garner has proven to be a very good player in a promotion team already and we should be able to afford a transfer with parachute money and possibly seeling Niakhate or something if the worst happened and we ended up in the league below). That way we would be allowed a second loan from Man Utd, and the rest of the £100m or £120m or so or whatever could be used on other targets this summer.

I'd be ok with an obligation to buy Garner for close to £20m and a purchase of Winks for nearer to £10m if that was possible (or a few more million on Winks and a bit less on Garner's future fee maybe). We'd have two good options for a quality ball player in central midfield then, and the possibility to occasionally play them in the same line-up if both were in great form and we went with 3 in midfield at certain times maybe. Buying Garner outright, and loaning Winks with an option to buy, rather than obligation, could be a good alternative though - maybe saying to Tottenham you have to sell him for £16m if we want to pay it next summer, unless you receive an offer which is in excess of that plus his loan fee and then you can refund his loan fee for this season and sell him elsewhere (if that sort of arrangement is allowed!).
