Does anyone remember sheep shagging Derby County? (STILL the worst team in history!)

So can someone explain how these players are signing - under the so called embargo?
Seems to me like they’re being allowed to continue as if nothing has happened.
They are all free transfers - Either out of contract or (free) loans and will be subjected to an EFL wage structure/limit.

In many ways they had a blank canvas because they had no squad (or wages expense) to begin with.

If Clowes has bought the stadium and cleared debts associated with that then when he paid just under £60m for the club (that's the number of shares he got from Companies House figures) then he's cleared most, not all of the debt, especially if he's got an agreement with HMRC (or paid them already).

If he'd paid HMRC in part or in full, we'd know about it by now.

To exit Administration, they „only“ need an arrangement with creditors - if, for example, HMRC have demanded full repayment, but over ( let’s say) five years, then that would satisfy the requirements for them to resume trading as their own limited company again (with new ownership).

Potentially, they - or more accurately, Quantuma - could have done a deal with the non-secured creditors for pennies-in-the-pound and for secured creditors for a specific value (compliant with the minimums of 25p or 35p or whatever it was) and then satisfied the football creditors that the monies they are owed will be forthcoming, and also dealt with HMRC to the satisfaction of the Taxman, and rolled all that into a business plan that is acceptable to the EFL, and that would allow them to come out of administration without (at this point) paying massive sums up front.

Any exit from administration (back to trading, rather than being liquidated) often involves an agreed business plan that generates income that can then be used to pay creditors. Without that, if the creditors aren’t on board, then the company would have been liquidated.

But such detail won’t be generally available until the Administrators Report is released.

I wouldn't worry too much. A side of plodding old timers who have played at a higher level is hardly likely to trouble League 1.
Just ask Gary Megson or Colin Calderwood

Name, age and previous weekly wage

Conor Hourihane, 31, £30K @ Villa
James Chester, 33, £15K @ Stoke
David McGoldrick, 34, £24K @ Sheff Utd
James Collins, 31, £11K @ Cardiff

These are players coming to the end of their careers and looking for one last decent deal. I'm not sure what salary restrictions have been put on Derby this season but I imagine The EFL will be watching over these contract offers with interest.

Depends who else they bring in but this business model of signing old pros far past their best has really worked well for many clubs in the past.

Two year contracts. If they do go up maybe hourihane can still perform, none of the others are likely to.
If they don't go up, their wages will severely limit them when they come out of embargo next year. All of these will be on big wages for League One.

The smart thing to have done would have been to do enough to finish midtable on a reasonable budget this year and go for it next year when they can pay transfer fees again (enabling them to properly build). Instead they are going shit or bust signing over the hill big names on big wages. A tactic that rarely ever works.

It's going to cost them more in zimmer frames than wages.....
I believe zimmer frames, Werthers Originals, beige jackets and trousers with elasticated waists are exempt from FFP calculations.

You have to ask, have they not learnt anything from this saga? They are gambling on going straight back up, gambling on promotion was what f**ked them before.

You'd like to think EFL would have a word if it gets out of hand. Plus that would give the malakas something to whinge about.

The EFL have accepted the proposed funding plan put forward, and that would have included a wage budget. Doesn't sound like they have restrictions on individual wages looking at who they are bringing in. So all players do not need to be paid the same, they just all need to come within the overall budget.

Splashing the majority of that on 30+ aged players is a dangerous tactic. They have 46 league games, and EFL/FA/Pizza Cup games thrown in to churn through.

McGoldrick completed 90 mins 5 times last season, and was out since March with a thigh injury
Collins completed 90 mins 4 times. Hardly reached the bench during the 2nd half of the season
Chester played 16 times for Stoke. Another who dropped from the side in the 2nd half of the season.
Hourihane ended up being super sub for Utd. Completed 90 mins 9 times.

Derby are doing what we did a few years ago. Buying names based on past success, rather than current ability. It doesn't work. See Knockaert, Bendtner, Freeman, Arter, Jenkinson, Murray and so on.

I'd say more along the lines of Eaden, Curtis, Gary Holt, Cullip, Taylor...but the point stands.

Ha, I was trying to be as current as possible. That list is longer than Ze List.
I was going for players who didn't cut it in League 1, despite better days on their CV. fortunately you have to go back further to get to our league 1 days.

Hey Crouton, what's it like in the basement? I expect you're used to it, based on that being where you live in your Mum's house.

John Burridge is available in nets 🤔

Do wonder if some of these 2nd batch of signings in particular could collide with the Business Plan. Remember all but Mendez-Laing said subject to EFL approval.

Little strange too as Reading are under an Embargo and seem massively constrained in the speed with which they have announced signings. Subject to EFL approval of course, which means that the EFL can decline to register if not aligned with the plan. I note it referred to a cap on agents fees in the EFL statement Friday albeit no numbers as with the rest. I know with Reading it is only 3% of remuneration eg.

I do like sensible well balanced post like these,

it helps settle me down as I find I get irate with the Brewsters millions approach,

being as balanced as I’m able I really believe they need a season of real discomfort, relegation hopefully if there’s any justice, then they can rebuild.
