I'm hoping in his break from Swansea he's had some Klopp style teeth installed and his eyes opened.

I heard he went to a plastic surgeon once who took one look at him and pointed to the church across the road.

I would like the as yet unappointed manager to be someone we've not heard of yet, simply for the possibility of us digging up a diamond.

Rather than mining the usual seam and coming up with a name we all know from the usual list.

But that's just there's always hope that this is an undiscovered diamond others thought was glass.

I read that Cooper's main tactical concern is immediate recovery of ball through aggressive pressing. If so, he is a very ingenuous appointment. This has been the main issue in the years I've seen Forest. There's all this talk about defensive or attacking mentality, but quick recovery of possession is what can make defensive resolve turn into attacking effort.

We can only go off what we've got and it's not a ringing endorsement.

My ideals come with a manager that demands bravery on the ball, trying to hold possession and control games with attacking intent. They're gradually coming back into fashion which is great for the game but that's the guy I want running first team matters.

It's going to take some time to implement that style too from the complete opposite of dropping off holding our shape. It could take a couple of months to get it right. We could still be a way off picking up some results especially consistently.

For years we have lacked intensity winning ball back. It would particularly nark me when at home as we’d make life comfortable for away team and allow them to settle into the match. On Wed there was no co-ordination as Taylor was at times pressing-but on his own-which has minimal effect-he was either daft enough to do this and didn’t follow instructions or the other players couldn’t be arsed.

If it's Cooper then I hope he can work out how to get the best of our attacking unit. It's not just a case of being attacking or defensive but creating partnerships and enduring individuals utilise their core skills.

For example Mighten just needs to be let loose to run at full backs all game. He's not going to get past him every time but he's our most agile Satanist with the most acceleration so you just let him loose. Get to the byline and square it or cut inside and drive so it would the opponent's out of shape.

Then you have your Zinks and Johnson who can link up well if they play much for together then Hughton allowed. Some quick one touch passing with one twos into the opposition half can create space needed for shots or through balls.

Get Garner dictating play from deep. Not Yates. If Garner can find Zinks or Johnson in those pockets of space in between the lines from those deeper positions our transitions can be much faster, much more dangerous.

Can still play like above whilst retaining some balance. Yates can anchor, and if Garner is playing from deep then he's not going to be caught out of position on the counter.

Fairly basic things that I'd expect any football manager to see pretty quickly that somehow Hughton could not, it would not play like.

Of course it will take time. But, depending on his ability to convince players of what he wants to do and properly coaching them to implement his strategy, this time need not be more than a few months.

I remember an interview of a former player of ours who played when Ernesto Valverde took over back in 2008. From day one, he wanted us to play in a way no one was accustomed to here. High press, impossible runs, immediate recovery of possessions. The player admitted that in the first couple of months everyone thought he was crazy, all players were dead certain it was impossible to do what he wanted, and a couple of them even complained to the board because they were exhausted. When they realized that this complete change of style was very demanding but both attainable and successful, they worshipped him as the Messiah.

Maybe Cooper will be able to get the City Ground serving some decent coffee, for the sake of Chris.

Isn’t the English language peculiar?
You substitute a single letter and the word you get has the exact opposite meaning to the one you intended.

The problem is Maxi, we see our team as a defensive and attacking unit. The whole split into two mutually exclusive parts. When we play like that, especially with our midfield, we create a huge chasm between the defence plus Yates and the attacking 'unit' of four. The chasm is where the opposition like to play!!

I'd like to see us play as a team.. we attack together and get players behind the ball when we don't have it. The centre backs should press higher and midfield need to use the pitch. I really hope Cooper sorts out the turgid football we play in our own half where (normally) Yates gets the ball from one CB gives to the other then to FB then to CB until one of them plays a chipped ball forward that comes straight back at us.

I cannot remember the last time we had a period of sustained pressure in the opposition's half

Re: Wudja/Wuntya? - Steve Cooper

Just watched about 8 minutes of Coopers Swansea on YT and what stands out tactically for me is his team's ability to hold then give but just at the right time. Whether slow or fast they always aim to get to the line. Defence or attack they can hit you and hurt you. The only way to beat them seems to be to get round the back.

If he comes in, expect us to press low then high with a compact shape and three at the back unless there's four. Two holding midfielders until we are out of possession and need another to drop-off and cover the channels, making a three with a loose pivotal diamond with one as a quasi QB spraying balls left right and centre, or with the option of possession based tiki-taka when we're looking to close the game out. Going forwards, one can push on to make the classic 'Christmas tree' with plenty of width unless we need to go narrow. I also expect us to play the channels unless we need to lump it to the big man up-front who can also come short in the 'false 9' slot. Oh, and we'll definitely have a trequartista.

Re: Wudja/Wuntya? - Steve Cooper

Football seems complicated these days. It was so much simpler back in my day (a long time ago). Many bollockings at half time, 'play further up the pitch, get your finger out and get the ball back when it's lost and show for it relentlessly. The bit about giving it to someone in the same coloured shirt was a given. Now it's 'gegenpress', the latest 'on trend' term, and false this and false that. Wonder what next seasons catch phrase will be. Something thought up by those prongs on MOTD no doubt. The team talks must be riveting. Mind you I was involved in quite a shit standard of football, lost quite a few, but enjoyed it for sure. The science of football.....whatever. Forests first win today.

f***ing hell. The guy who was like a PE Teacher letting players loose on the playground. A free for all.

I mean, I sometimes miss that style of play, but it was mental. The amount of defensive mistakes and red cards.......

Indeed. Though he still never had us adrift at the bottom of the table. Not sure what that tells you.
