Re: As yet unappointed Manager #50

The hope with the style is that it's daft fans with no context.

Davies came here with a rep for shit footy, and some fans still bemoan his away performances. He played the best football we've seen in around 15 years. Given players like Johnson, Mighten, Zink, Carvalho, we may get way more entertainment than we have for a long time hopefully.
It surely cannot be any worse to watch. Everything is relative, so in comparison it may feel like champagne football if a full back actually overlaps once or twice a game.

We can only go off what we've got and it's not a ringing endorsement.

My ideals come with a manager that demands bravery on the ball, trying to hold possession and control games with attacking intent. They're gradually coming back into fashion which is great for the game but that's the guy I want running first team matters. The club doesn't and their appointments make that quite clear.

We've had a handful of great ones over the years and we've let them go, way too soon. We might get that with this guy but there's nothing to say we do and our club is not one for demanding it internally at least. So with all I've got to make the call, I'm gonna have to sit and say it won't be.

More than happy however to be proven wrong, that's the dream.

Completely agree mate.

One of the best away performances in recent times came under Billy Davies.

That 3-1 win against West Brom is some of the best football I've seen us play in the last 15 years. But people still say he was shit away from home.

Even my mates who don't support Forest were impressed and saying we were going up. We didn't, but that shouldn't be ridiculed. It should be appreciated, as it's the nearest we've ever got to promotion for God knows how long. Good times they were.

Re: As yet unappointed Manager #50

Cooper wouldn't have been my choice (I would like us to be braver) but he is a logical choice.

Swansea ended with sour grapes, there was a reason Swansea fans weren't calling for his head whilst he was at the club - only once he had gone they decided they didn't like him. They have had a bland squad for a long time - Cooper got huge amounts from it and used the loan market very well. The depth they had was ridiculously small, to get playoffs twice in a row with the depth they had is a really big achievement.

Didn't they beat us 5-0 in the Cup with plenty of rotation? That is proper boring that.

Swansea won't achieve anything this season, and it is mainly because Cooper isn't there. He is young with a modern approach, wants players to care for the ball and improves players - that is what we want from a Head Coach, surely?

For me he is the only British coach that will fit here.

We were particularly shit on the day!

We also played a very weak team including flapper smith in goal. So yeah we were always gonna ship 4-5.

Not wholly convinced with Cooper in general, still, but think he will achieve what we need this season. We can always reassess when we aren't going down. (Or if we do)

I miss Montanier

f***ing hell. The guy who was like a PE Teacher letting players loose on the playground. A free for all.

I mean, I sometimes miss that style of play, but it was mental. The amount of defensive mistakes and red cards.......

We were shit (though I don't blame Monty for that), but it was fun at least at times. Absolute f***ing chaos. I kind of have a soft spot for Lam, Mad Vlad and 'Berto.

Thomas Lam is playing for CSKA Sofia now after a couple years back in the Dutch league or Belgian I forgot. I also have a soft spot for him.

He still gets pick for the national team and plays from time to time but mainly for depth.

We've had much worse play for us before and since. I'm not entirely sure why, but I've always liked him.

Think he was a nice lad, was confident about himself but Softspoken and I think our league was too fast for him. Didn’t help the team he had to be apart of was monumentally shit lol.

I think because when he scored they were important goals for our point total, towards the beginning of the season. A banger against Burton on opening day I think.

Same. I always like Thomas Lam.

Scored a few goals for us in the early days under Montanier as I remember. Also just had something about him that was honest and full of effort.

If you pay £1m for a man and he gets you to the Premier League, I think your gamble has paid off.

Sometimes you need to trust your gut feeling and go for it.

Therein lies the hope with this one. Our gut feeling will actually be being influenced by a ton of research, plus in depth conversations about the right things and asking the right questions such as "what's your appraisal of our curret squad?", "Do you think you can work with it?", "what would you do with it?", "how much do you feel you'll need to spend on it?" etc. As opposed to "Nice CV and win % dude! You're hired!"

His instructions before the match must've been:

"do whatever you want lads, top scorer gets a mars bar"

I always thought Montanier's tactics were nothing tactics. He just chucked players on the pitch and told them to do whatever they wanted to do.

I often think back and chuckle at those days, because it was so mental. But it was also so entertaining. What do we want?

In Montaniers defence, his squad was that bad that's all he could do. I think he genuinely just hope that one day the squad would come good and he'd find the right formation/tactic by luck or judgement.

Sadly it didn't happen for him.

I hope he has had a very good look at the squad and will hit the ground running. Too late for today but next Saturday will be a good measure.

Fingers crossed.

You know I always assumed right back to the Marthur days that the people at the club had these conversations with managers before employing them. I didn't think folk getting paid the amount they do to run the club could be careless, self-centered and detached enough to employ managers without thoroughly going through the practicalities of the club's setup and situation.

Same as when we signed the likes of Colback. You assume that the club has at least assessed his fitness, and spoken to those working with him to see if he's up to speed.

I've clearly been vey naïve.

Yeah I too have a soft spot for Monty and his clan, not because we were good but because we were interesting.

Believe he handed s debut to a young Matty Cash completely unexpectedly in his first game in charge too.
