Aye I get what you mean regarding the Americans. It was mainly to commemorate the our trip and the wedding too.

We did Monument Valley too. We weren't too keen on Vegas, wasn't very 1950s. Very busy too.

Did you do the whole of Route 66? It took us just over three weeks to complete the trip.

yep, all the way from start to end, we also weren't overly impressed with Vegas, it was a bit of a culture shock after the serenity of staying in monument valley. Absolutely loved the whole trip though, met some fantastic people and stayed in some iconic motels - also stayed in the same room that Clark gable spent his wedding night in :D

My blog of the trip with photos and random waffle:

Aye, seen them at a classic bike show/autojumble at a posh country house in leicester. Unfortunately I lost a lot of photos when my SD card died, the young woman (not the one in your picture) riding that indian certainly raised a few blood pressures.

Nice one Andy.

If I won the lottery I'd love a 1920/30s Indian Scout.

Ken Fox, the chap that owns the one in the photo, took me for a ride on the wall at Elvaston Castle Steam rally back in 1996.

I wish there had been a photo taken.

Yes, I couldn't remember his name at all. A bloke I used to work with has a half built Indian Scout somewhere and he talked my ear off about Ken Fox when I saw him after that Wall of Death

I remember as a 10 yo kid going to see the Wall of Death on Goose Fair, and being as I was only small the crowd let me go to the front to get a proper look. The guy that let me in said in a very earnest voice - “just mind your fingers when he drives round the wire” (pointing to the safety wire around the top of the wall). I was really disappointed when he didn’t really do that.

Since then I’ve been several times, the main rider always reminded me of Johnny Cash, and one year they also had a lady rider. They also used to ride a go-kart too sometimes. Great stuff!

Nice one Virgo. Here's a picture of the Wall of Death, in attendance at Goose Fair. Sadly it no longer attends.

I remember it was always situated at one end of “mugs alley” where all the sideshows were, like the smallest man, Mousetown, the gentle giant, the bearded lady etc.

There was also another ride in that vicinity called (I think) The Rotor, where you could either pay to ride it, or just pay to watch. It was a miniature wall of death, except the wall span round at great speed and then the floor was lowered and the riders would “stick” to the wall - I often went as a viewer, but never had the bottle to ride it.

And not forgetting of course 'The Snake Girl'. I'm determined to find a picture of her.

Thanks for posting your memories Virgo. The same goes for the others too.

It's nice to hear other peoples experiences and memories of the fair.

I've found her.

Aye... I know those guys. Malc on the drums too.
Bit of a end-of-lockdown resolution to get to MFN and their gigs more, although HMC is just about no more, the Fockers are still rocking.

We'll have to have a few beers together at MFN, Andy.

Remember Malc's first band after Showaddywaddy...The Teddies?

I've still got my Hot Motor Cycle Club, CD. ;)

I've heard of them but they're before my time really. My mum and dad used to Follow Les's bands (me mams his aunty) a bit but him and Malc only got together relatively recently. He mentions Les and plays his daughter singing "fools fall in love" on his last RN interview, 2018 I think but can't find it.

I remember that horrible thing. Never again!...

Nearly every fair in the USA still has one these.

Did anyone ever go to the American Adventure? It's derelict now but was a decent theme park back in the 90s.

The only one I went to as a kid. Used to love it. You can still see a large part if it from the public paths around Shipley country park
